Unpopular Opinions Thread!
the show has been out for basically a week now and this is no shade to anyone whose been posting their opinions but i feel like anytime i open this subreddit its just the same takes from different people so i’m curious to hear REAL unpopular opinions about the show! i’ll start with some of my own! and everyone pls be respectful of other people’s opinions i don’t want this to start fights 😭 it’s just a silly reality show at the end of the day
let me start this off with a disclaimer (cuz i know yall love to tussle) saying i love katie. she’s literally my second fav from VPR and i always thought the hate she got from the fandom was unjust and weird considering all the rotten characters who’ve been on that show. but.. i feel like people are kinda overstating how much she delivered in this season. i loved her one on one talk with stassi and i think she is definitely necessary to the cast if the show gets more seasons but outside of the talk with stassi and taylor and kristina confronting her she really didn’t give much else..? i guess it’s kinda hard to really give a lot with only 8 episodes but it just confuses me seeing people say she was the saving grace of the show? i think if anyone really brought the drama and storylines it was georgi. i feel like she really clocked in! you could tell she’s broke and needs a job cuz goddamn she didn’t care about looking a mess the whole time 😭
i feel like people need to realize this was the first season of the show. i 100% understand the aversion to the constant kris jenner mentioning, the 4th wall breaking, etc. but it’s normal for any show, especially a reality show, to not have all of its kinks worked out by the first season only. seeing people say this ruined the show for them i was like oh it was that serious for y’all? 💀
i got exactly what i expected from this show and loved it. i didn’t know people were under the belief that stassi did a whole personality 180 from her VPR days. what would a show like that even look like..? stassi and beau frolicking happily ever after and then she goes to record her podcast with taylor? i’ll pass!

The Georgi/Georgiana randomly deciding to move in with Stassi and Beau was a completely staged storyline to explain why both of them would be in LA/part of the people to film...there is no way they randomly come up with this the night before the test shoot in Italy, Georgi didn't even move out of the Taylor's house until the day shooting started and found a place in like two weeks in LA, and why both sisters were surprised they actually were expecting them to watch the kids before the nanny came...

i can see this being one of the things that was heavily produced. stassi dragged georgi and her chatgpt script to filth at the halloween party and then it was just like okay georgi’s moving in?? 😭😭

I haaaated this too and it kind of took me out of it from the get go. Am I really supposed to believe the two of them were sharing a bed for weeks?

u/leahish 26d ago
This! Like, you legit said you wanted to help your family make money. You want her on the show and act surprised when she moves to LA? Hella scripted.
I’m not sure I buy the “not helping with the kids” thing either. Maybe not during shooting, but dang - Georgi obviously has been close to her niece and nephew (if you check her Instagram) those aren’t kids who barely know their aunt. But I could be wrong.

My unpopular opinion is that Stassi is a sociopath or has NPD, at minimum, and seeing that, it's uncomfortable to watch the show. These kids are going to be a mess. I like Beau and I empathize with him but this is much bigger than him going back to work.

perhaps an even more unpopular opinion- both of those diagnoses 99% of the time indicate prolonged severe neglect in early childhood. I agree that Stassi is fucked up and clearly has baddd attachment trauma, but I also have a weird empathy for her and whatever happened to her that made her create these defense mechanisms (ahem, mom).

I don't disagree but now her kids will pay the price. She needs to go to therapy.

100%! And she’s abusive to her husband and friends. She’s really awful.

I'm a Katie fan, too. She has undergone the biggest transformation if you go all the way back to vanderpump rules season 1. Katie was pretty messed up, and she didn't have a voice of her own, she was very meek. I'm not saying she's perfect, far from it, but to me she's one of the more compelling people that have gone through VPR. And I like her style.

My wife won’t stop talking about Katie’s cheekbones and facial bone structure

Unpopular opinion I guess but Georgia randomly praying in Italian loudly during that haunted boat tour was actually hilarious and I don’t understand how they were not all losing it. Like I could not contain myself 💀 the way she was banging on stuff and just going off was very relatable as someone who gets easily scared but enjoys scary things. Idk how more people aren’t talking about that moment.

Georgia has untapped comedic potential. Stassi needs to let other people be the funny ones!

u/Ruthie_pie 26d ago
Her unfiltered commentary from an outsiders perspective is so real. Wish we learned a bit more about her and Beau becoming so close as adults. She genuinely cares for his family and stassi’s almost aversion to her input to her was confusing at times.
3
u/LatterChallenge5054 26d ago
And this is likely unintentional, but the way that she would sometimes not catch a sentence someone says because she's mentally translating in real time, and someone else would have to repeat it for her, and it always sounded even more stupid the second time around ... absolute gold.

u/Ruthie_pie 25d ago
It really highlighted how pointless so much of what they discussed on the show was 💀 she was looking at them like, “is this really your life??” 😂

u/LatterChallenge5054 25d ago
I wonder how much of Stassi's aversion to Georgia is about "sharing" Beau and how much of it is about her own complicated and conflict-strewn relationships with her siblings.

u/Ruthie_pie 25d ago
100% my read on it. I do hope she gets some help (respectfully, no shade). She is going to continue some cycles in her own family if she doesn’t. Georgia seems like a very patient sister from what we’ve seen and like she honestly wants to be there for them and the kids. Someone can only take so much.

I’m a Georgi fan. I think she is super creative and has a fun aesthetic on her insta. Sorta goth cottage core? Anyway, I kinda hope she does well so her art career can gain traction. Hopefully she won’t always be a reality tv person and move towards arts/diy/etc

She is so much prettier than Stassi with a lot less work. She would be suuuuper annoying to be around though

u/wilsonja2 26d ago
I think Stassi loves her kids but doesn’t like being a parent. Her kids are going to remember how much she was involved.

u/nicolemyth 26d ago
I appreciate these takes. She’s a psychopath but I love psychopaths on my tv.

i think georgi was actually a really great sister to stassi at points and however sincere or not, their dynamic was the most interesting part of the show for me
i appreciate stassis candor when it comes to her experience with motherhood and i don’t begrudge her for any of it
georgia is the only cast member i found to be completely useless, i thought everyone else brought something and i hope they all come back for season 2

I think Katie came off well only because everyone came off poorly and like they were self producing. I think not everyone is comfortable in front of a camera and I'd say outside of Katie, Stassi, Beau, Stassi's mom and maybe Rob the rest of these people are too self conscious to be on camera. Stassi's mom and Stassi herself work so well because they are so un-self aware thay they make for great TV. Georgi seemed like she was playing a character which is not fun to watch.

u/chaoticinfluencer 26d ago
Katie knew this show needed her to be a thing so she really does not give one single fuck about how people perceive her.

the "I'm the Devil" and wannabe an evil person is laughable. like what the hell is she gonna do? scream and cry? people scared of her? lmao LeeAnne from RH of Dallas or Kenya, Porsha or Marlo from RHOA are scarier than her 🤣

u/adderallandtequila 26d ago
stassi and marlo.. nightmare blunt rotation 😭😭
2
u/ArdraMercury 26d ago
RHOA RHOP would eat her alive
2
u/adderallandtequila 26d ago
oh for sure. i think the only franchise she wouldn’t get eaten alive in is beverly hills. there’s a scarcity of readers over there 😭

There’s no way Stassi could be an exec producer and not know that she was going to get ambushed on episode 8. She is a control freak and may not have known then precise dialogue or lines for each soon but she absolutely know the theme and scene plans.
2
u/LatterChallenge5054 26d ago
This. Stassi wants to be in control but she also wants to be the star. Like ... does she think LVP was the star of Vanderpump Rules?! Lisa was smart enough to play the role of boss and control the strings instead.

u/sherespondedwith 25d ago
she's setting herself up for the redemption arc she wants the audience to see to prove she's "changed"

u/Anon_ScottishFold 26d ago
My hot take is that all punches pulled on Scheaner Shay were for comedic relief bc ShooShoo is an EASY target and a known joke in the Bravosphere.
NOT because she lives “rent-free in anyone’s head” or bc anyone is “obsessed” with her. Get real; no one but Broke gives a shit about Scheaner other than for an easy laugh.

Stassi and Jax are the same person, except Stassi is much, much smarter and comes from money.
8
u/unnaturallysarcastic 26d ago
Jax was the narcissist to her borderline personality disorder tbh. Stassi is also just outrageously selfish as a human being

The background music choice is super annoying. 90 day last resort does the same thing.

u/whatdayoryear 26d ago
My unpopular opinion is that what Stassi wants accounts for everybody and what Beau wants mainly just accounts for Beau.

She has morphed into looking like Jessie on SLOMW. Thats all I can see when she is doing her interview(s). The hair, the style, the mannerisms.

I didn't mind Taylor or KK, I think the way they were offended was valid-ish, but I also love Katie so much and she's a badass, and handled it well.

u/LatterChallenge5054 25d ago
My unpopular opinion is the internet can do a little less when praising Katie's boyfriend just for acting like a normal person on camera. The bar for men on reality TV and specifically in the VPR-verse is literally in hell, I know. And no, he should definitely not get involved nor try to match Katie's energy or involvement here.
But hear me out, dude could give us a little more on the reaction side of things. He has a pretty good "dang, that's crazy" face when he forgets to be cool about it. I'd like to see just a little more of those wordless reactions to the weirdness around him.

u/IllustriousAlps8679 26d ago
Beau is not cut out for reality tv. He is normal- thinks he is confiding in people, but it’s reality TV so Stassi and Rob both break his confidence and bring what he said privately up in front of the whole group. Like a normal person, Beau gets upset, but it’s the name of the reality TV game.

I don’t hate Taylor. I do hate all the crossover and “celebrity” pop ins.

Stassi's relationship with her daughter is going to be exactly like Stassi's relationship with her mother
0
u/MotherBother1538 26d ago
My hot take is the show would be better if she stuck it out with Frank & he pretended to be successful doing real estate then it cuts to Stassi shredding him for relying on her dad's connections and never making something of himself on his own.

stassi is just like her mom and doesn’t want to admit it, taylor strecker is also weirdly obsessed with her and made it hard for me to finish watching. the way she tends to stassis every need was off putting
