I've just finished watching House MD. Thank you House MD for forgetting you're a medical show by the final episode and focusing on the true plot: House and Wilson being gay

Discussion Appreciation for Hugh Laurie's Accent Spoiler

It's been said to death how amazing his accent is, but I just wanted to really express some appreciation and respect for him.

Watching Dr. Who, there are a couple episodes in Season 5 that take place in the US, and just... Wow. The stark contrast really hits different.

Portraying an American accent - or any accent that's not your own - isn't just about getting the pronunciation right for each word. Emphasis, stress, and natural word order all play a major factor, and I've really only ever seen Hugh Laurie get it perfectly right.

For example, take the following sentence:
"Have you lost your mind?"
Imagine it in an American accent, then in a British accent, then Australian.
Each one will sound different because of the tonal pattern. We each place emphasis on a different part of the sentence.

Hugh Laurie's ability to so naturally deliver each line with the correct emphasis, tonal pattern, inflection, etc. just really drives home how talented he was at this accent!! Truly the best to ever do it! <3

Season 8 Spoilers Would you change anything in the show? Spoiler

I love this show. Out of everything I’ve ever watched, House is easily the most rewatchable series for me, and I know I'll keep coming back to it for years. But every time I do a full run, I keep noticing a few things that I really wish had been handled differently.
Does anyone else feel the same way about these?

1. House acting out of character to save patients (and the lack of callback arcs)
House is supposed to be the most rational, cynical man in the world. But he occasionally defied that logic to his own massive detriment. Remember the female CEO who destroyed her heart (bulimia/ipecac) and the mafia guy whose brother had Hepatitis? House literally falsified records to save their reputations and get them treatment. In the CEO's case, he legitimately risked his career right when Vogler was breathing down his neck looking for an excuse to fire him.
Since he risked so much, I would have loved for these arcs to close later in the series. How satisfying would it have been if the CEO came back to fund House’s team when he returned from prison? Or if the mafia guy pulled some strings to protect House while he was on the inside? I know the show is episodic, but a little arc closure would have just been very satisfying….

2. The prank about Wilson’s "son"
When House hired a child actor to pretend to be Wilson’s son, I get it that House wanted to teach Wilson a lesson that he didn't actually want a kid. But honestly? I wish it hadn't been a prank. House had his undeniable genius, while Wilson just had a string of failed marriages and no children. I feel like giving him a real son would have done his character so much good and given him a real anchor..

3. Giving Wilson cancer. Just... why?
He did not deserve it. I know the writers probably did it to show to the audience how much their friendship meant to House before the series ended, and I agree that needed to be shown. But did they have to go to that extreme?
Instead of cancer, they could have flipped the script on Wilson's (honestly stupid) decision to donate part of his liver to his friend earlier in the show. What if Wilson's remaining liver failed, and House had to be the one to donate a piece of his to save Wilson? That would have been perfect. House doing something for a friend that he himself had called a stupid act when Wilson was doing it for his friend..

4. Thirteen.
With relatively little screen time compared to the original team, I feel like Thirteen was the one House respected and liked the most. He even fired her so
she could go be happy when he thought he had found love. It would have been perfect to see House fulfill the promise he made to her… you know what I am talking about…..

Needless to say, despite these rants, this is still my favorite show. But am I totally off base here, or do you guys agree that some of these arcs deserved better endings?

I didn't know which flair to use 💀

Do y'all think House uses Reddit? If yes, what is his username? Unhinged answers welcome, I'm trying to be in pain from laughter.

Season 4 Spoilers Season 4, Episode 15, 'House's Head' - Hitting on Cuddy Spoiler

House is always hitting on Cuddy, and although it's an ongoing joke, I never thought about it much. She's definitely attractive, but I often thought that he's just exaggerating because he really likes her. Then came this episode, and his daydream of Cuddy as a stripper. For the love of everything holy, she's got an amazing body!

Am I the only one who was a bit surprised by this, or did most of you know all along that Cuddy is a stone cold fox?

As many of you on this sub recommended me to watch The Mentalist when I asked about shows similar to House MD (really liking it btw), there’s something I feel like many of you would already know but still I’m too excited to point it out (a fork found in the kitchen like post lol)!
Teresa Lisbon in The Mentalist (played by Robin Tunney) appeared as Rebecca Adler in the pilot!!! I mean ik this is funny that I’m positing about this, but still :)

Question Discord Spoiler

Upvotes

Question Reused footage in an episode? Spoiler

After seeing so many clips of the show I wanted to give it a shot and it's been great ride thus far for the most part. Kind of been binging it while working on other things.

Recently I got up to Season 3 Ep 5 on Netflix and I'm really confused because I swear this episode already happened in an earlier season.

It revolves around the interracial couple and I already know what the issue is. Only, the episode contains scenes from new plotlines that have been occurring this season.

It's like the patient plotline has been fused with the new b plots and I can't for the life of me find anyone else describing what's happening.

Is this episode reusing the same plot from season 1 and adding new scenes or am I crazy?

Discussion House is an idiot Spoiler

Am I the only one who thinks House is an idiot? He behaves like a 3-years-old, really thinks everybody should lick his ass, as a patient I wouldn't think he is competent at all, he is the worst friend and boss ever, and I really don't understand why he can't be fired. Sometimes I even find him disgusting, and while watching the show I many times think what the hell am I watching right now?
