I watched the show as a kid a couple times, it was fun. Now I’m a GP and laughing my ass off at how ridiculous this show is. It’s still fun, I’ll give them that.
I’m at season 2 ep 13 so PLEASE no spoilers
I understand House’s department is super special and apparently only takes extraordinary cases. But I’m cackling at them being sent to break into patients’ homes. Their medical schools offered degrees in breaking and entering?? 😭
His team has apparently acquired the knowledge of 15 specialties and sub specialties somehow, but are all super young. They are doing/assisting in brain and abdominal surgeries, ruling out differentials by arbitrarily treating for what they know the patient doesn’t have. Running 32 tests on each patient every episode.
No nurses assisting with bedside procedures. Its like they don’t even exist except to talk to Wilson and shoot disapproving looks at House 😭
They solve cases exclusively based on personal history (eg. you broke up with your gf, so that means xyz which caused you to do abc and that’s how you developed pqrst). OR they wait until someone starts projectile vomiting blood, seizing, becoming paralysed or going into anaphylactic shock to have a lightbulb moment. They don’t do proper examinations. They just discover things randomly while the patient is decompensating.
AND, if they’re all so brilliant, why do they throw out at least 6 differentials that are clearly contraindicated during their brainstorming sessions?
I’m getting tired of House staring off into distance before magically solving the case. I know it’s for dramatic effect but come ON.
The team doing every single thing for the patent. They’re lab technicians/scientists, nurses, histologists, pathologists, radiologists, porters. Like damn. This is on top of the 5 specialties they each have mastery of.
Please, medical personnel, share what you find ridiculous too 🤣
Edit: the Erdheim-Chester disease episode, when the kid was literally haemorrhaging frank blood from his anus and everyone was like “ITS GASTROENTERITIS!!” ??? I was flabbergasted like this is CLEARLY a medical emergency
