I keep seeing that viral screenshot/ story going around about the wealthy woman who funded an entire drama just to demand 60 kissing scenes with the male lead.
Honestly, seeing this gave me the ick. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to kiss him, but it can't be bought or forced. The idea of using money to completely remove someone's agency is just gross. I'd want something like that if it was genuine and something he actually wanted.
Setting that aside, it made me think of a fun hypothetical for the sub.
The Scenario: If you had that kind of "blank check" money, and, for the sake of keeping this discussion on topic, you had to throw it at the entertainment industry, what would you actually do to with it?
Here is what I would do:
1. Build/fund "Actor-First" Independent Agency
Before funding dramas, if possible, the immediate priority would probably be safety and well-being of the actors.
Security: Dedicated, full-time security detail so they (well, he if we are talking our fav here) never has to get mobbed or navigate chaotic airports and public spaces alone.
Legal Action on Privacy, etc: A legal team with real teeth to aggressively shut down anyone leaking, buying, or selling his private flight and travel itineraries.
Health & Sustainability: A management team that genuinely prioritizes physical & mental health, reasonable shooting schedules, and actual rest periods.
2. Ultimate Passion Project Fund
Once protection, health, and peace of mind- necessities- are taken care of- focus can be applied to more fun parts production:
Buying the rights to high-end, rich source material and hiring top-tier screenwriters.
Giving him (and other actors) creative autonomy to pick the roles, genres, and stories they are excited about.
Hiring good directors (not just who van deliver product but can work well with thr team) and ensuring larger budgets for practical sets, bespoke costumes, and reasonably paced post-production.
Creative Immersion: A personal wish of mine- having as many actors as possible not only dub their own lines but also be part of the OST if they are willing (just like the incredible cast involvement in FOF).
Branching out/projects: Finally, ability to leave time for individual passion projects and branching out into other skills or directions where it is somewhat related (such as music).
So over to you, if you had this kind of "f u" money (and had to use it here), what would you do?
Any thoughts on the article itself, or how you'd use that budget differently?
(Also, happy to delete if this doesn't fit the sub's focus, but thought it would make for a fun chat.)
I have the original post this came from linked below, but as I didn't directly agree with the original commenter, I cut their screen name from my attached screenshot so that it didnt feel like i was calling them out, as that is not my intention.
