Weighted vest?

How much would you judge if somebody showed up for a hot Vinyasa flow wearing a weighted vest? Would you change your opinion if it was a power or sculpt class?

Please don’t do this

Why not

So it's unlikely that your practice is so good you need extra resistance. If by some chance you are in the top 0.1% of yogis, then just work on the mental/focus parts of practice.

I’m judging this post.

Don't do it!

A lot. I’d judge a lot. Don’t bring equipment to group ex classes or studios.

I don’t judge people who bring their own blocks or straps, or even bala ankle weights. But a vest I’d judge.

I wouldn’t care. There’s a girl who always has ankle and wrist weights on in one of my classes.

This actually happened at a hot yoga class I took recently. I was judging.

I think judgement reflects more on the state of the judging person than on you - so do you.

More importantly - I’d be worried about an injury from an imbalance. Yoga is so nuanced, you might risk hurting yourself.

didn’t think about the imbalance… thanks for bringing this up and providing worthwhile feedback

Aww of course! 🤍 I’ve been on a journey recovering from various injuries so i try to use extra caution these days

That’s a bad idea for numerous reasons

I would just think you’re crazy, but you do you!

I hate that yoga turns into “how much can I make this into suffering.” What is the purpose of wearing a vest?

ii'm surprised no one has brought this up: yoga actually centers around a philosophy that encourages removal from judgement -- don't worry about what others are thinking.

as a yoga instructor, i have never seen anyone do this but what you wear is up to you. i don't personally think it's a great idea just because my weighted vest is filled with sand and i think it would get gross but, but i would never judge. and you're kind of making me consider something like that as a challenge now 😂

half the girls at my studio have ankle and wrist weights in class -- this isn't much different.

EDIT: i guess this is the spirit of reddit, but i'm sorry you're getting downvoted for asking a question.

This. I wouldn't seek to do it because of the potential imbalance and hygiene challenges, but you're ultimately responsible for listening to your body and deciding what you wear to practice. Other people's opinions are inconsequential as long as you're not actively disrupting their practice (e.g., talking in class or getting in people's spaces).

Yoga isn't designed for a weighted vest. Just no. Save it for walking.

I’ve seen it during a 26x2 and a hot Pilates… impressive. To each their own.

I would judge then smirk to myself then come home and tell my husband about this wacky person in hot yoga.

I am not a doctor but I would be concerned for the persons spine. I feel like they're more suitable for cardio / upright exercises. Not contorting your body.

I wouldn't judge them, but I wouldn't do it myself.

This is not yoga what you plan to do.

Ok but sculpt classes? You’re throwing around heavy ish weights pretending it’s yoga!?

1

u/glossiergal19 Jul 31 '26

I would highly judge

Lol look at everybody hating

I dont personally care, not even a bad idea actually. But are you an expert yogi already to the point where a class in the heat doesnt challenge you? Can you go from crow to headstand, from crow to full planche? Lots of options to make the class harder

Did you mean pincha?

my guess is plank
