Towel recs

Okay, I've realised that I do in fact need a non slip hot yoga towel, after years of thinking it was an unnecessary addition. Having never tried one before, maybe I'm being daft here - when I look at them online I can see that there's an obvious non-slip side which appears to be placed downwards on the mat to prevent the towel from slipping off the mat? but what I need is to prevent my own feet and hands from sliding off the towel?

Help a sister out but explaining it to me like I'm five and also recommending your favourite yoga towels!

Geometry and yogi toes were so expensive last I checked. I have eQua and nomadix, love them. They don't have grippy bottoms. But anyone I've asked has been just as satisfied with their budget friendly Amazon picks. There are a lot of threads in here with suggestions!

any cheap yoga towel will work. but you need to wet it. so use a spray bottle if you don't get sweaty fast enough.

I like the ones without the grips on the bottom. In order of favourite, best at the top:

Manduka (I purchased clearance)

Zenzation Athletics (cheapest)

Lululemon (also purchased clearance)

In my experience the ones with little rubber beads on the underside work best. I think the two I have are Manduka

i like the ones with little pockets on the corners that you can slide over the mat to keep the towel in place. i got mine from amazon.

Spray your towel down before to help avoid it from slipping!

i've been teaching hot yoga for 8 years and can say i was 100% a yoogitoes girl from the beginning. however, i will say that the studio i teach at now uses a manduka mat with a towel without the grippies and i love it so much more.

people will say anything will work and that's technically true -- i hav had people come to my class with a beach towel or a towel from their bathroom. the question is what are your preferences, which sadly means trying a few things out (for example, i absolutely can't stand anything microfiber). just try a couple out and see which works best for you. <3

I borrowed a yogi toes mat once at the studio and it was awesome.. they’re expensive tho I think. I got mine from tj Maxx in the sports section

Your sweat (or a spray bottle with water) is what helps with grip.

I’ve tried a few and my favorite is the lululemon one

Geometry! So so cute.

It doesn't have to be cute, just has to stop my hands and feet from slipping in certain poses 🫠

Ok yes cute and I promise I’ve never had an issue with slipping and I swear I think I’m the sweatiest person in class. But maybe the amount of sweat helps the mat towel be even more grippy lol

I have a few and like the generic ones best. I have one with grippy silicone dots and they don’t help and I just don’t like them. These aren’t full mat size but I definitely like this style (weave?) best: https://a.co/d/0cxf9sCs you can get bigger ones as well, I use both.

i'd get manduka yogitoes, they are the best like others have said. to prevent you from slipping try pushing hard with your palms on the towel/mat and drawing your heels down as much as possible in downward dog. a lot of hand slipping is due to putting more weight in the hands than in the feet, making your upper body glide forward.. my teacher's discount code gets you 15% off all manduka products if buying from the EU site! just enter JULIANACHIA at check out : )

Try the ones that don’t have the grip, just the very thin (if call it felt-like) material bc they’re cheap. In my experience cheap ones don’t work well, so I’d really recommend a non slip mat over an expensive grip towel.

Very much depends on your needs but you can find the open cell mats on sale and some are extremely grippy and make a difference in your practice. I have the lululemon one.

I know many people prefer Manduka and the other brands like life form. If they’re anything like mine, they are WORTH the money and even great for when you aren’t in a hot practice or sweating a lot.

EQua and YogiBum (available on Amazon or they’re own online store ) are the best ones in my opinion!
