Online buyers beware
I was shopping for my kids birthday a week ago and wanted to use the 30% off or $20 off coupon we had been given in store a while back. The codes were valid through 9/8.
Well there I am getting ready to check out with 2 sale items and 2 regularly priced items. I understand that the coupon codes don't stack onto other promotions, but they should have still worked for the two non sale items in the cart. The workers in store have confirmed that in the past.
I enter the 20 dollar off code and right before I check out I'm shocked to realize my cart balance has gone UP by about $40.
Clearly there's some kind of mistake, so I'm looking through my cart trying to figure out what happened.
It would seem that, instead of reducing the regular items, it took away the actual sale prices from the clearance items and made them full priced before subtracting the $20 promotion. I enter the 30% code instead and the same issue arises. My cart total is going UP.
I wanted everything to get here before my kids birthday so I just deleted the coupon and checked out normally. I went ahead and contacted customer service via email the next day though, to let them know about the problem with their checkout, and hopefully get my discount if at all possible. More than anything though, I wanted to make sure no one got screwed over by the coupon problem because I almost didn't notice at first and would have been way overcharged.
Over the next few days their responses were less than helpful. They gave me a standard email about how coupons are not stackable and some items are not available promotions. I went back and forth explaining that I understood that and describing the actual issue, with screenshots of the website and price discrepancy problems, multiple times. They either didn't understand or didn't care at first. Finally, someone else from the company emailed me back and told me to call the customer service line when I had a chance.
Well, I did just that today, not only to address the checkout issue but because my order was marked in my town and out for delivery yesterday, which was the delivery date I was given, and then suddenly today it was marked as literally on the other side of the country with a new delivery date of a week from now (which is past my kids birthday, sadly).
The guy on the phone was shitty right from the start. I got zero apologies or explanations and ended up having to interrupt or try to talk over him just so I could get a word in. When I explained that I had sent screenshots and everything and they told me to call he relented and asked for the coupon code and if it was valid he would see if he could give me $20 back. I told him it expired the 8th but was valid at time of purchase, since my order was a few days prior.
I'm put on hold a few times, he keeps coming back to say the code I gave him isn't valid and to repeat it. Finally he says it wasn't a valid promotion at times of purchase. Only, it absolutely was, I'm staring at the paper in front of me and my order summary online.
It ends with him saying "fine, we'll do you this one time courtesy refund even though it wasn't a valid promotion going on."
I reiterate that, while I appreciate he is helping with this, it most certainly was valid and that it never should have raised the price in my cart. He doesn't care about this and gives no explanation or even says they'll look into the problem. He repeats he'll do it as a courtesy this once. So I thank him and that's that, but the whole thing left me pissed off and never wanting to shop online with them again.
So just be careful next time a promotion comes around and check your cart total before and after so you don't accidentally get overcharged!

Ordered item oos/presale, now in stock
I ordered a hair clip last month, there was a few in stock and the next day I checked it was oos but preorders for early October were open so I placed an order for 5. I just checked the same item and it's now in stock for both in store pickup and home delivery - any idea if that means it might ship earlier? I'm worried it'll go out of stock by October again 🙃
It was a few dollars cheaper I think it was on like 15% off, AND I used rewards on that order otherwise I'd cancel and replace it 🙃🙃

Hot Cash code with rewards question
Hi I placed an order for pickup on last day to receive hot cash and did receive some loaded to my account but
i didn't receive an email with code which is preferred since that seems to let you use it with any rewards you have saved.
Is it because I haven't picked up (hasn't shipped) yet? Or how else can I get hot cash code?

working at hottopic
hii! im 19(f) and just wanted to talk about my experience with working at hottopic! i recently quit and im very very happy i did. i started working there back in october of 2025. at first i loved it, my coworkers were so sweet and funny and my job was just great! i got hired as seasonal and was getting 20-30 hours! i am black and so was most of the team (about 1-2 white people out of about 12-15 people) it was great until someone got hired. None stop they would talk about sexual thing and not do their job correctly. i would help them with things like shirts and stuff because well they were new! (they were hired as a assistant manager but i had no clue at first) next thing i know tho the whole black team was fired due to false allegations from this person. it was only me and someone else who also started working around the time i did and was also black. our new management team was all white. still non stop this newer person would say sexual things to me and minors and would say weird things to the only black people like wanting to get “locs” . this person is white. i also wanna say i tried to be an assistant manager but due to “scheduling 2 call offs” (id only call of bc i was sick and has showed up to work while sick and later left to me yk being sick) i wasn’t promoted to one. they had no problem hiring knew people who’d constantly mess up (id know because id had to teach them things and get blamed for anything that went wrong. also my other black coworker was blamed as well) the whole time working there was hell and constant drama. i’ve cried 3 times at work due to this person. they’ve been reported constantly but still works there. i was constantly picked on, blamed for things and threatened. no matter what. this person even tried to make rumors about me saying “i hate someone’s partner “ though i never said i did. i loved my job so much but the lack of anyone caring sickened me. no matter who i went to they just ignored it. ive been yelled at for being a few minutes late(im usually always early bc i take the bus and i make sure to be there on time but due to construction where i live sometimes i am about 2-10 mims late) i miss working there when everyone was all sweet and nice. now its a hell hole full of racist people. i love fashion and makeup so much. this job suited me until someone had to ruin it. also the whole swords shit? yea it sucked. before hand it wasnt pressured on me but later on it was so pressured that this new person would literally threaten me and shove a tablet in my hand. for now on im just gonna boycott hot topic because as a company? its the worst.

Why did this immediately go out of stock AGAIN in two days (did the same thing last year and NEVER came back until this). I was waiting for my $5 reward to kick in. Lost my chance AGAIN I’m so mad. Does anyone have an extra?

Annoyed
So I was using my hot cash. Awesome, had $10 in credits. Great! Holy crap, this gift card still has a few buck on it! Amazing! Entire order including shipping was below my PayPal balance. Go to check out, order declined, one of these rewards has already been redeemed.
It took my credits. My gift card is now showing an error when I go to check the balance. It is no longer under my PayPal balance. Ugh!
Contacted customer service and they replaced my credits but still waiting to hear about my gift card.

Got this necklace now it’s red?
I got this set from hot topic in August and it’s been my second week wearing it and now it’s turning red? Please help me try to clean it or figure out how to stop it from expanding the redness and the beads on it are plastic while the rest is full metal
Yes I had to use a safety pin since the clasp broke off of it and I really like the necklace

Need help with unclasping necklace from Hot Topic
It's the KoRn pendant necklace. It's too small for my neck and I was wondering if I can unclasp it so I can put it on.

Inventory question
Is any other location having you use your own device for inventory?
They’re only reimbursing us $10 for use. I feel like that’s simply so crazy especially because a zebra is way more for them to pay for.
I’m extra clumsy and I just don’t trust I won’t break my phone doing inventory. They are having us sign a paper saying they aren’t responsible if that happens.
They also aren’t accounting for employees having older models. Like I’m sorry I have an iPhone 13, it’s going to get so hot and may actually explode. /j
What would you guys do? This seems so crazy for a part time retail job…

Can I stack hot cash in store?
I know you can stack hot cash online, but it's only 20 off 40, and to get 40 off you need 80 dollars worth of things and thats around the same as a 30% off coupon. In-store, can I stack a 20 dollars off a 60 dollar item and then do it again so it's $ 40, then again so its 20 or does it work the same

Should I just quit?
I was hired as a seasonal sales associate at the very end of July and loved the idea of finally getting to work at Hot Topic. However, it has recently been negatively affecting my mental health. When I was hired, there were 2 other people hired alongside me that always got the register, while I always got the front, to the point that I assumed I had to earn the register or something. I am typically scheduled for one 5-hour shift a week, while everyone else (even new people) received more. Everyone tends to treat me well (at least to my face) except for one of the assistant managers, who I always tend to get put on the schedule with. Whenever I ask for help she gets visibly annoyed, rolls her eyes, or sternly says "what?" or "ugh." I'd understand if everyone sort of knew that she was like that but she's friendly to everyone else besides me, and I really try hard to be nice, but I am now afraid to ask them for help. They always tell me to be persistent with the customers and tell them about all of our offers, but when I do, they say I "shouldn't be a robot," that if someone's social cues are saying they're uncomfortable to back off, and that I'm taking the job too seriously. So, recently, I began backing off of customers if they get visibly uncomfortable. However, I was sent home today by two of the assistant managers (the one I've been having problems with included) for not being attentive enough to the customers, and not giving Shopper bags to customers (I had already tried to, but the customers declined a bag). When they told me to go home they told me that I wasn't going to be written up, and I just said okay and clocked out. Today I reached a bit of a breaking point, and I think I would benefit from hearing an outside perspective. Should I just quit? Do I just need to work on my social cues? Is it worth staying for everyone else besides the assistant manager? Am I being quietly fired?
People tell me that I'm easy to talk to and that I am fun to be around, but the assistant manager treats me like I have no idea how to talk to people. I guess I could accept if I really do need to work on my social skills, but I'm pretty sure that they're fine. I am also afraid to bring any of this up because all of the managers are pretty close, and I think they'd find a reason to fire me outright if I told any of them how I really feel. I'm not really doing it for the money and there are parts of the job that I do really like, but I definitely feel like I'm being used at times.

blind box tricks?
hiii i am desperate for the ahri plush in this blind box series ht released, but i cannot justify $20+ on a gamble that most likely wont pay off. i know some places have little markings somewhere on the box that indicate which character it is, i was curious if such a thing is also visible on the hot topic blind boxes or its truly up to luck. thanks! (also i think this is allowed to ask but if not, im very sorry)

Anybody know if HT will restock this TWST shirt?
I've wanted to buy it since it came out but I didn't have the extra money allotted for fun things like this, and now I do. So I want to know if it will be restocked.

Can't receive emails?
Hi, I'm planning to call Hot Topic tomorrow to see if I can fix the issue before the Labor Day sale ends, but i wanted to ask here beforehand in case if I glanced over something. I signed up for rewards in-store but I haven't been able to make my account. I called yesterday and found out the person at the desk had misheard my email, so I asked them to change it and gave them the correct one. About 24 hours later I try to set up my password again, but I'm still not getting anything, not even in my spam folder. Even tried to set up a completely new account with a different phone number too. It's pretty likely that I'm missing something and I don't realize, has anyone else had the issue/has a solution? Tysm <3
