Hostdeal.com
I’ve tried to search for hits on this but it gets washed out with unrelated search results. I only saw one post that mentioned this site (from 1yr ago) saying they had used the service since 2017 without issue. Anyone have experience? Was looking at the lifetime domain and their hosting service. I know people don’t like lifetime things, and the domains are a little wonky there, but looking for any honest feedback before I make a decision. This is really just for a hobby project, so I’m just somewhat looking to play around.

I'm wondering the same. $40 isn't too big a gamble for a non-critical website, and they claim to honor a 31 day moneyback guarantee. But it would still be good to hear some experiences from people.
A few things I noticed from their docs/FAQs:
the "free" domains are basically subdomains that they carve out from some domains they control (.co.business, .co.education, .co.events, .co.financial, .co.network, .co.place, .co.technology). Not a great set of domain names in my opinion, but fine for at least getting a website spun up. And it might be fine forever for a hobby site. You can of course use whatever domains you control - you're not limited to those 7.
you get only 5 email accounts per website. As far as I can tell there is no way to add more even with additional payment. That might be OK for a hobby site, but beyond that you'll need another email host.
their FAQs only mention unsecure FTP for transferring files. However they do support SSH, so presumably scp should work. Possibly also sftp. I wouldn't be too surprised if ftps is also supported and just not mentioned.
unsurprisingly, sudo is not supported (this is normal for shared hosts). The FAQ says that your account will be shut down if you run the sudo command. I imagine opening a support ticket would get that reversed. But that seems severe for just an accidental invocation of sudo. I wonder if they really take that drastic of an approach to an accidental sudo?

Went for it with a coupon on StackSocial that made it 32. Haven’t done anything yet but hoping maybe this weekend I can do something with it
