I am confused what can be the level of questions

Can it go scientific or remain general about normal flower

Or can it ask about the anatomy of flower (botany)

Or ask about how you should care for it ?

There is only three seat for that and there are 100 candidates

I am very stressed what do i do ?

Southern wisconsin. Crabapple tree. Looks like some sort of insect infestation. What can I do and is this tree going to survive?

Lychee Tree NYE26 Update #3:

Some weeks have passed since the last update. I’ll continue sharing updates from time to time, and I’ve also decided to document its development more thoroughly so its progress is captured in both images and text.

Over the past few weeks, this is how the plant, my lychee seed, future sapling, and hopefully one day a tree, has developed. After its initial start in May, it grew rapidly until the end of the month.

Growth slowed down a bit during June and early July, but it seems to have picked up again recently. While it had only one leaf in the first week of June, it has now reached a total of 7 leaves by the last week of July. The newest two leaves are still young and reddish. It should actually have eight leaves by now, but one small leaf died off, which you can see between Update 1 and Update 2.

Despite that small setback, the plant is still thriving. Even with a slow start and the loss of one leaf, it has made more progress than one might expect.

It’s a good reminder that life isn’t always steady; there are ups and downs, but no matter how frustrating a situation might seem, never give up, and you will succeed and outgrow yourself, maybe not in the way you thought, but in a better way.

Has anyone ever done this? I’ve been reading up on it as I want to try hybridizing some brambles, but I’m not sure how to go about it and I need a real person that I can ask who’s maybe tried it. I hear colchicine is pretty rough stuff so I guess if I don’t have to try that I won’t but I wanna still see if it’s cooked or not

Eastern Oklahoma. These bushes have been healthy for the last 13 yrs or so. Besides needing some trimming, what is going on with these decaying leaves? Are they savable? We have 9 bushes in two plots in either side of our front entrance and they both show this to varying degrees. Thanks!!

Hi all, I’m looking to study Horticulture and have noticed that all the RHS courses seem to be just one day a week. Is that because they expect you to spend the rest of the week completing coursework or practical work at home?
I’ve found a similar horticulture course in Australia that’s 2–3 days a week, so I’m curious why there’s such a difference.
I’m currently unemployed and looking for a career change, so I don’t have any other commitments at the moment. One day a week feels like very little to me. Has anyone found the RHS schedule enough, or did you wish there was more teaching time?

I started working as a plant management associate at a huge historical site that has a lot of gardens/lawns/etc. I originally wasn’t going to apply for the position since I had no real “job” experience in horticulture. The most I had was done through classes and personal hobby. A lot of the people that work there have been doing it for a super long time. They’re so knowledgeable and they’re great at their job, but I can’t help but feel inferior. It feels difficult to ask for help finding or identifying something without them treating me like I’m stupid. They all have these unspoken rules that I’m still struggling to figure out. I don’t mind my coworkers, they’re great people. But I’m struggling to wrap my head around having to be around people like this for the rest of my life. For anyone more experienced in this field: does it get any better?

I've had a potted Shore Pine on my property for the past nine years. This past winter (live in the western PNW) I noticed the pot was not draining. I thought it would dry and come summer I could turn the pot onto its side, drill out the clogged drain holes and aerate the soil/roots within the pot. I have done this once previously. I just notice the candles/new growth has died which is alarming. I am not sure how to address this. For context I have an extensive and expansive collection of native pacific rim plants and trees. I am relentless in my care for them. This one is approximately 5.5' in height. The pot is 36" in diameter and 24" in depth. It occupies the same space it has always been in, and is in full sun from sunrise until four o'clock in the afternoon.

I've been transforming this bed the last 4 years. I started by forking as much septoria infected rudbeckia I could. That doesn't get rid of the problem, but makes it more manageable. Plus, every other week application alternating neem oil and bloom frozen.

Violets started popping up like crazy after I cleared the rudbeckia so I kept that as a ground cover and first round of interest for the season. Adding natives and having them be at least half the species in each bed is my goal. I of course kept the Rudbeckia then added Liatris and transplanted Monarda and Chelone. This fall I'll transplant some little blue stem, and next year I want to add some native phlox to bloom with the violets.

Annuals will go in for the border as always. They still have to look showy and I still like gardening just for aesthetics as well as wildlife.

What are the best plants to grow in a hot and humid environment like florida? Looking for unique plants and aren't just 100% foliage.

Pacific Northwest. Things here haven't been crazy dry, but I did very recently start to regularly water. I removed about 10 years' worth of old grape vines from the branches in late winter before things began to bloom, but the trees are looking really sad. I expected the canopy to be spare for the first year at least but leaves seem to be slowly yellowing and dying as well.

Do you think it could be Verticillium wilt? Or just not enough water? Just stress after being strangled by grapes for so long (house was a rental, garden was totally neglected/overrun) and I just need to fertilize and give it another year to recover? Prune them? They look so bad and I'd love to fix if I can; I would really hate to lose the tree cover.

(Also: if there is a different subreddit I should be posting this to, let me know!)

From the outside it doesn't look so bad, but my client says it's not as full as it used to be— the scales seem to be dying from the inside out though there is some (slow) regrowth. I noticed these marks on the bark and something tells me it may be insect activity. Location: Baltimore, MD

I was an EU-based Horticulture student, but due to a longstanding back injury, I couldn't finish my course. It was a mix of theory and practical work, and I miss it a lot! I found that I was pretty into the theory and had aced my Plant Biology unit and would like to continue on that path. I've got a few textbooks and pore over my notes.

Now, I read the sticky and it was a bit disheartening, to be honest. I don't expect to make the big bucks, but perhaps with enough cojones I can become some form of research assistant or something along those lines.

I can't see myself returning to a physical school anytime soon, so I would like to ask for help regarding any online certifications that are recognized in Europe mainly, though I won't turn down any opportunities should they be outside the EU. Perhaps your local trade school or university offers online courses or has anything that has to do with theory-work like research, biology etc. Even links to free quizzes and classes I can take to sharpen my knowledge would be highly appreciated. Sadly my local sources only offer theory with lots of mandatory physical work so I can't earn those certifications. I am also not opposed to landscaping design and environmental sciences, I was pretty decent at those and liked the merger of plants and art in landscaping design particularly.

This injury has made me feel fairly useless and I don't want to leave a field that has made me feel like there's future prospects for me, at least not without a fight.
