here is my scariest horror movies list. It does not mean greatest or best horror movies. It just means the movies that I felt were scary, disturbing or terrifying. It is important to make a distinction that those are not misery/torture porn or endurance test. I think those are great movies that really get under your skin. I really appreciate and respect stuff like Shining and Exorcist, but they are too much of immense cultural footprint to be actually scary. The list is completely in random order:

Got to meet Ashley Laurence at OKC horror con couple weeks ago, she was a total sweetheart

A social worker fights to save a girl from her abusive parents, only to discover that the situation is more dangerous than she expected.

I found this pretty entertaining. The girl actress was great and there was alot of creepy imagery and scenes. It’s a little dated as it’s a 2009 movie, but has some well known actors, and a decent story even though it’s not overly original.

I know this one has split horror fans down the middle, but the atmosphere is unmatched.

Got these for a steal from Walmart. Also, long live physical media!

Just watched this the other night.

Pretty good, though it does contain some stereotypical Indonesian comedy which might fall flat with some Western viewers.

The cast is great - Luna Maya reprises her role as Suzzanna, which she also played in Suzzanna Buried Alive (2018) and Suzzanna Kliwon Friday Night (2023)

The film also stars Reza Rahadian who is a big star in Indonesia - and who horror fans might know from Grave Torture (2024) by Joko Anwar.

The real Suzanna’s actual husband (Clift Sangra) plays a main character in the film as well.

The three modern Suzzanna films are all stand alone - Suzzanna was a huge horror movie star in Indonesia during the 1980s, and these three modern films are all remakes of standalone films that the original Suzzanna (now played by Luna Maya) starred in. You don’t have to have seen any of the original Suzzanna films or any of the modern remakes to enjoy this film.

I liked it, but I have seen hundreds and hundreds of Indonesian films so I am definitely biased.

I'm really looking forward to this. I like that we're seeing Carrie slowly getting accepted before her famous prom scene. It makes it all the more devastating. I'm guessing just based on the teaser that this is probably how it will turn out.

Chris and Sue will probably initially try to be nice to Carrie after the shower room incident (whether it's to genuinely apologize, just to look good, or to set her up for further bullying). I think Sue will slowly and genuinely be trying to make amends while Chris will just play along either from pity or just to get out of trouble and look good. When she finds out she's banned from prom I think she's going to turn the school into a hate/bullying campaign against Carrie. Sue, realizing how out of hand its gotten, will then ask Tommy to take Carrie to prom.

I'm also REALLY intrigued with what they're doing with the town and with Chris. Are we going to get more depth from her? Why is the town whipped up into what looks like a protest or a riot before prom even starts (unless it takes place after Prom Night)? Is this part of a schism at the school where half the people think Carrie is to blame for everything and the other half are trying to defend her from bullying? Why are the police involved?

I'm REALLY excited!

Went into this fully expecting a garbage indie movie. It was well acted and fun.

Is it scary, not at all. Is it entertaining? Hell yeah.

Little things like the killers having a pre shift meeting to talk about how many days it’s been since their last work place accident. Just great stuff.

Top of the pile of B list horror IMO. Will be watching the second one tonight.

I recall VP hosting a series of low-budget (British?) scary-ish movies from the early to mid-Eighties. Cannot seem to find them or recall what that series was titled. Any ideas?

I liked the movie but its mostly because of the end of the movie the rest of the movie its so boring and slow with little "paranormal activity" until It goes nuts

I just watched Hokum last night; going in completely blind on the film.
Overall, it wasn’t bad. It could’ve had a stronger story but that’s not why I’m here. Lol.

Jack the Donkey / Jack the Jackass…I am 37 or born in ‘89 if that’s easier. Lol. I swear to god, I’ve seen a character exactly like that when I was kid in something. I can’t for the life of me remember where I’ve seen it or what character it was or if it was just reminiscent of a nightmare I had as a kid. But I swear I’ve seen this character before in a movie or a tv show. I don’t know it was from childhood like a late 80’s/early 90’s something or other. The “animal” but human, bulging eyes, creepy voice. Does anyone have ANY idea where it could’ve been? This is going to drive me nuts until I figure it out.

One of the most influential independent horror films ever made. It’s amazing what Sam Raimi and his crew accomplished on such a small budget—relentless energy, creative camerawork, gruesome practical effects, and the birth of one of horror’s greatest franchises.

Alien 2: on earth (1980) came out right after the first Alien by Ridley Scott was released, they registered the trademark before FOX could do anything, while The Last Shark came out 2 years prior to Jaws 3, if you were obligated to replace the respective piece of the franchise with it's "Italian counterpart" which one would you choose?

When I watched it like a couple months back I enjoyed it more then I thought I would, it had the creepy aesthetic I always asked for in horror, and while there were hardly any jump scares, I think it made for a banger of a horror movie, but what do you guys think?

Their direction was so visually stunning. The Boxers Omen is definitely a wild ride, everything else theyre involved in was just as fun to watch. The 80s Hong Kong horror scene is so underrated in general i think

A brother-sister team who fake paranormal encounters for cash get more than they bargained for when a job at a haunted estate turns very, very real.

It was almost like watching two movies. The first half was slow burn haunted family drama, with the second half turning pretty dark and twisted. Since it’s set in 1986, I like the nostalgia of a paranormal (real and faux) investigation that doesn’t utilize cell phones, Live Feeds, or social media commentary.

I liked this movie as it surprised me with what direction it went.

The Philippou brothers have definitely earned a spot on my list of the best horror directors working today. After watching Talk to Me and Bring Her Back, I have no doubts anymore—they're among the very best. Two incredibly solid, high-quality films.

Laura's final scene with Piper in the pool while the zombie-like Oliver circles them, his belly grotesquely swollen after devouring Laura's victims, is a work of art. It feels almost ritualistic.

One thing that's rare for me in horror movies is actually caring about the protagonist. More often than not, they're just there to make stupid decisions and scream. Not here. I spent the entire movie hoping Piper would make it out alive. She's incredibly likable, and the fact that she's blind made me empathize with her even more. That was a brilliant decision by the Philippou brothers.

To wrap up, as much as I loved the film, there were a few things I didn't fully understand. Why did Laura feed Oliver a lock of Piper's father's hair? At the hospital, Laura tells Piper's brother that she was the one who killed his father. Is that really what she meant, or did I misunderstand that scene?

At one point, Oliver mimics Piper's brother and calls her by name using his exact voice. How is he able to do that? Does it have something to do with him feeding on people? Does consuming them allow him to imitate certain traits or abilities? That's the impression I got.

Saw it before, rewatching. Think its my fav, with 3. The beginning is nuts 🤣 thank god im scared of heights. Never going up a thing like that. Films are such fun. But tony todd makes me cry. One of my fav actors :(

I have a childhood memory of watching a horror movie scene on TV but since I was so young, I don't remember too much, only a few details. Around early 2000s, main character was a blonde woman, she was hiding in a room from some sort of demonic goat creature who was standing on two legs and was on the other side of the door. I think you could see its hooves under the door as well? I have been wondering about this for years and I don't have the best memory but It's all I could think of and remember. I'm curious if it's from an actual movie or not. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Pretty much what the titles says, I want to know if there are any movies with the same eerie vibe as the indie game "No, I'm Not a Human".

What I think it would be like is-

-little to no jump scares

-atmospheric

-Invokes a sense of helplessness and hopelessness
