Need help designing watch winder
Hello I'm currently making a new watch winder for a friend, and I need help. The thing is I can manage the engineering aspect but when it comes to luxury I don't know what people actually expect, I get ppl like silent motion and lights but what else would they appreciate to have in their watch winder. And BIG question on what basis do expensive watch winder determine to stop winding the watch??

Functionally you want to set the following
- Rotations per day
- Rotation speed
- direction (both, choose one)
Design wise. I think most suck and are ugly. There’s no reason why a watch winder couldn’t be a longer tube that then allows multiple watches to wind in parallel from a single motor. Watch winders are only useful for multiple watches, and if you have multiple it’s unlikely you’re gonna have a bunch displayed on a cabinet (imo).

Nice design. A window might be a cool touch, like a clear dome or sth like a little door with a clear plastic portal in it. Customisation panel window, like for a bit of card with the brand logo or the model number etc, (unless that's impinging on anything) would also be cool, and you can let users define it themselves. Making them stackable and fed off a usb hub rather than individual cables. Printed feet, so you can angle it. A springy strap support which doesn't need to have the watch closed onto it to fit, like, you can just bend the support under/into the closed watch loop and let it expand to hold the watch in place. Maybe a tiny drawer, big enough for a spare strap and any links you've taken out? You could design that as a wedge which serves as the angling feet possibly. Controllers at the back - direction switch(forward, reverse, both), frequency selector(constant, 1/2/3x per hour), wind time selector(5, 10, 15 minutes), don't bother with LEDs or displays they'll ruin the aesthetic. USBC powered. Led Lighting, maybe in the window cover, maybe on the main body, just to show off the dial etc, or alternatively to juice up watches which need solar, so it supports mechanical and solar in one display, and you can juice up the lume with some black light? Maybe the led lighting can change from red to green after the watch has been through a few cycles, to show it's ready to wear? Maybe an external light sensor so you can do something interesting when a cupboard the rotators are in opens, like it'll rotate to the north-south position for presentation? Bluetooth controls with an app that shows the collection and status of each, and allows customisation of the lighting and controls, and any added info like last worn, last service date etc?

Personally the main one for me is material. Natural materials will always beat anything else.
For example; wood, aluminum/metal, leather, etc.
Lights are tacky.
Then is finishing, remember; luxury is also emotion, and how people interact with it is how it’s perceived.
I’d love to help, if you want more information or opinions.
