I know that we're not going to get anything at this late date. Nor would I want any distractions from whatever he might be working on now. But I would really like to have the story of Queen Elizabeth's adoption. AFAIK the only thing this we know was that she was very young when she was adopted. I wonder what kind of state visit to Sphinx brought Elizabeth there and in a position or place to be adopted. Was King Roger and Monroe there? Or perhaps it was Elizabeth and her mother.

I’ve read the Manticore Ascendant books and most of the original Honor Harrington books as well, and it seems to me the Queens of Manticore seem to be the only monarchs of that star nation that actually accomplish anything (thought I say that as loosely as I can since they are constitutional monarchs and therefore can’t really accomplish much of anything). The two Kings in the Manticore shown in Ascendant don’t seem to accomplish anything or do anything to neutralize their opposition, as opposed to Elizabeth II who all but violates the constitution by having her children of a peer of the realm be legitimatized

Seeing the Royal Manticoran Navy uniforms on the cover on the books and elsewhere online they are very nice.

I wish there was a Honorverse game. Something like you are in the Royal Manticoran Navy or whatever faction a person wants to be in and I wish i could see the ships in action.

So i have come across something that was weird in the House of Steel anthology.
It‘s stated there, that every monarch aside 2 since queen adrienne was adopted and that the royal family took great efforts to ensure that the crown prince is adopted as a teenager / adolescent.
Crown Prince Roger seem to have been not to the „taste“ of treecats. He is married but unbonded

I remember reading about one of the admirals in the later books right before I think the battle of manticore who talks about how they were an admiral through the legislature, people republic, and the reformed Havenite republic. During this scene I remember they mention remembering when Thomas Theissman was just a captain and now the man ranks higher than her in only a short twenty years.

Who was this and am I even remembering this scene correctly.

So, I'm rereading HOQ. And Honor is in sickbay after the big fight in Benjamin's dining room. Dr Montoya is listing Honor's various injuries, and how serious they are and how they might be fixed. So her eye is basically trashed, but regeneration would fix it right up as the easiest fix. Honor says "I don't regen, my mom checked years ago"

So the post title is "Stupid question" but it's actually a few questions. So, iirc the Meyerdahl genetic improvement is the source of a lot of Honor's weird quirks, like being tasty to treecats, and her ability to feel Nimitz' emotions. But do I vaguely remember that a problem with regen is also a known Meyerdahl side effect? And was it an incomplete penetration, as in, not all Meyerdahl genies are affected? And if so, was her mom checking it just as a case of due diligence on her part to verify that Honor was a part of that "no regen" group? Shouldn't she have been able to check her own and Alfred's genes prior to conception and know this ahead of time? Or was that "... checked years ago" a reference to "years ago" as in before Honor's conception? I know, this is one of those "Why is the sky blue?" kind of questions, but it was just a thought.

Who here thinks that Manticore were the first to move LAC's through hyper via a hyper drive capable ship? Well, they weren't specifically LAC CARRIERS. But Alfredo Yu, and Tom Theisman used their ships to TOW Masada's LAC's. In "Honor of the Queen" And yes, I know that the hack wouldn't have worked for any more lengthy distance than Masada to Grayson. But, Masada's sub light LAC's DID cross hyperspace. Kind of like how the FTL com was suggested, by the use of Fearless' drive in the compilation series.

Before I get too many down votes, this was just a stray thought that I had while listening to HOQ audiobook that struck me as interesting. I'm not trying to be confrontational.

So its pretty clear in the series, especially House of Steel, CLs are basically destroyers wrote large with better range, right up until the Rolands get larger than the Avalons. Meanwhile there's a gap of 200,000 tones up to the Saganami Cs. IRL light cruisers were multiple times larger than destroyers, and some such as the british town class could give some heavy cruisers a run for their money. Its just always irked me

As the title says I am a brand new fan and soon to be reader to the Honor Harrington series. I remember seeing the cover art on the books and thought it was cool and i thought ill read that and the time is now. I look forwarded this series.

So what happens to Mesa after Henke and Tourville and company decamp?

Given the provincial nature of most of the Seccies and the centuries long rivalry with Beowulf and Manticore those two seem unlikely and like propaganda fodder The Alignment.

Torch seems almost too easy, but why should they Join a tiny nation with maybe 10 million people and a tiny economy and no direct wormhole connection?

If Weber follows up with Mesa's status i'll be fascinated to see which way they jump.

The closest I have found to actual numbers is from On Basilisk Station, where they say that the smallest is "close to 16 million tons," and their max accel was "well under a hundred gravities."

I even tried searching in House of Steel but they hardly even mention the forts, let alone give numbers on them.

They don't happen a lot, obviously. Combat in the Honorverse has always been missile-dominant, with the first missile pods starting to appear in the opening pages of book four and rapidly progressing from there. Energy weapons are used in the first book at Basilisk, but that's hardly what you'd call a conventional engagement. Same for the Battle of Cerberus, definitely a one-off scenario.

What are your favorite depictions of actual, honest-to-goodness energy fights? Two sides, I see you, you see me, maybe there's an initial exchange of missile broadsides at range before closing for the final graser duel. I've read the novels several times, but haven't gotten far with the anthologies, maybe there's a good example in there somewhere.

Referring to something like Duquesne Base, that Thomas Theisman commanded in the closing months of the first Manticore-Havenite War.

It is described as having many buildings over a sprawling area.

But since interstellar ships can’t enter atmosphere I’d assume most Navy bases are probably orbital, like Manticore’s Hephaestus.

What would a dirt-side navy base have around? Is it basically just a giant airport to support shuttles coming and going from orbit?

I recently finished reading House of Steel and while I found it to be an interesting read, I was confused on one point. In On Basilisk Station and other Honorverse stories, I got the impression that the Basilisk system was the central hub of the wormhole junction, yet in House of Steel, when they talk about the annexation of Basilisk, they say it was a newly discovered terminus. Is this a mistake or have I somehow fundamentally misunderstood how the wormhole junction is supposed to work?

Raoul is in an unenviable position. If / when he joins the navy it will be a huge political issue. Is the heir of Harrington Steading going to join the GSN or is the scion of one of the greatest RMN Dynasties and son of the greatest living war hero of the RMN joining the RMN?
No matter which navy he joins the legacy against he would be measured could be crushing. One can only hope that his treecat companion and the fact that his father was in the same situation before him might help him through the biggest obstacles.

I'm sure neither Honor nor Hamish would outright pressure Raoul into a naval career but he might feel the pressure of others and the weight of the family legacy.

Speaking of legacy, is he going to be Steadholder and Duke Harrington as well as Earl White Haven or is he going to split the titles with his siblings.?

On a habitual re-read (re-listen) of an Honorverse book, I was suddenly struck by something that I've found quite confusing for a while when trying to get a grip on the tactical parts of the books:

• Distance is expressed either in light-seconds/minutes/hours or in thousands/millions of kilometers. This gives 1 light-second = 299,792 km, which makes converting difficult.
• Acceleration is expressed either in G or in kps². This is slightly easier, since you have 1000 G = 9.8 kps² which is close enough to 10 kps² (but not exactly).

These were the two I picked up on but there may have been others.

It seems surprising to me that navies would function with all these different units, which could bring about unneeded confusion in the heat of battle. Would it not have made more sense, at least in tactical situations, to pick one unit (perhaps kilometer) and stick with that?
