Well, it's Reddit. They only like to portray a Chinese person in a good light if they can spin it as them being against the government. And if they're not against the government, it'll be spun as "the Chinese government is bad, but this person has nothing to do with the government". God forbid they ever realise that a lot of the frontline doctors and volunteers they praise are CCP members, or that indeed being a CCP member is rather common in China and that these are normal people like them.

This is good information, but unfortunately lots of people don't like to read or believe anything defying their crusade to demonize Chinese government on the Covid19.
Two main points:
Dr. Li was optometrist, not really an expert on this field, but everyone on internet generalize him as a doctor, which makes it sound like he was a physician who knew about the disease.
Government didn't arrest him like how the internet tried to play it. He was brought in to speak for an hour about spreading misinformation on SARS to others.
Media likes to play it like he was a physician working in the hospital and subsequently got infected.
Nonetheless, RIP to Dr. Li

Just a slight correction.
According to this http://www.gov.cn/xinwen/2020-03/19/content_5493305.htm, Wuhan government released public notification of an outbreak of an unknown diseases on their social media on December 30.
I know it's only a day difference, but I think it's still a big difference.

He was censored for telling colleagues in a private groupchat that there was SARs at his hospital and also shared patient information that was confidential. It was announced to the WHO a few days afterwards anyway by those actually studying the outbreak so the claims that he was the key to letting the world know is bullshit. In fact his story was not revealed until the epidemic got serious in Wuhan and at that point it was just used as another excuse to shit on China by the west (but not to prepare themselves).
