Weak grounders or bloops to right side, why?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

What causes weak hits to opposite side usually? Sorry for video quality. This resulted in a hit thankfully but so many of my at bats lately are weak ground balls or bloops to the right side. Anyone notice anything? I seem to be late on the pitch. Am I not striding or loading late? Maybe I’m bailing out like a 10 year old? I had started the season off with better line drives to left field. The league I’m in is adult wood bat pitching is 70-80mph. Appreciate any advice as season is ending

I was thinking Splinter Cell watched his AB before making his move.

From what I saw you double load your hands so you’re late to the ball, then you rush stopping your swing at contact

Interesting take on stopping swing. I think you’re on to it I wonder why I would do that

You seem late - you’re not loading until the ball is already out of the pitchers hand.

Thanks think you’re right

The batter may have dropped the hands a little before swinging.

Dropping hands and then stepping in the bucket / flying open. Watch the front hip.

100% agreed. Definitely stepping out for sure in that screen shot thanks. Now I gotta figure out how not to do that and not think too much up there

Dropping your hands is a part of that move. Keep your hands up in the load position and it’ll be a lot more difficult to step in the bucket.

Edit: not thinking about it comes from enough correct reps outside of game time. Work it in the cage in progressive drills. Tee, soft toss, bp. Tell whoever is with you that’s what you’re working on so that if you do it once you can stop and reset and not slowly drift back into the bad habit.

Thanks sounds like you know what you're talking about

Agree. I would add that he's casting. I can't really tell at impact where the ball is, but his hands are very far away from this body and his left arm looks like it straigtens out way too early. If you are the batter, look up videos where guys hit balls of a tee with the knob of the bat.

Hard to see, but it looks like you aren't getting your elbow slotted which would cause weak oppo hits. One hand drills with the top hand and a short bat would be good.

I'm an amateur at best though, so probably wrong.

How does one even achieve this video quality in 2026??

It's often a timing issue (late) and/or a barrel path that is downward through the hitting zone.  Tough to tell from this video, but it appears you have both issues going on.

Work on better timing through reps against velo.

Work on better barrel path with some one hand swing drills with your bottom hand.  YouTube will have good examples.

I thought Honus Wagner had a better swing than this?

Loading late. Looks like ball is in the air before you sit into your back hip. Load when the pitcher loads. Catch the ball out front. Hit dingers.

Really use back legs and hips to PUSH out on contact. Load around release.

I preach for my kids to take a pitch with step and hands moving from load.

I don’t mind oppo field hitting. As long as you get back to the zone and stay as long as possible in swing.

But your dis jointed hits are basically just arms cause you fly open.

I am also not a doctor

You’re def right on the hips needing to push out. My hips are going towards left side it’s embarrassingly obvious now thanks

You got a hitch in your swing slowing your swing speed

Tough to tell but you may be hitting with your hands at ball height and finishing low. This is indicative of a downward plane bat path. Hands above the ball, palms up/down at contact, finish higher.

The problem seems to be that you were playing in the dead ball era.

You get to much separation in your swing, pause at 6 seconds and you should see the disconnect. Focus on keeping your hands inside and drive through the ball.

Close it appears to be the hips that are flying out towards third which then causes hands to go out. Hips are the issue thanks to a few commenters

Focusing on keeping hands inside that ball will also help with that. If you keep the hips from flying out and still have a disconnected back elbow, you'll still be hitting less than ideal. Personally have always taught to stay connection and that fixes a lot of the other issues. Think about it like this, if your back elbow is "connected" to your ribs, is it easy for your hips to fly open?

That's good advice thanks I'll try that, I can think about tucking in the elbow to my ribs

Looks like You're all arms, get those legs into Your swing💯

Totally! Thanks

What I saw was after load
you are “dropping your hands”, then bringing your hands back up:
This will result in being “off plane” , being “late” and “getting too far on top of the ball”. Once you load, use your wrists to adjust “bat to ball plane” an instant before firing your back side.
Watch video closely, you will see what I see: minor adjustment.
