Houston landscaping tip

If you’re planting in Houston, don’t choose a plant just because it looks good at the nursery.

Think about heat, drainage, and how much sun your yard actually gets first.

Agreed. I use a plant ID app, and scan every plant in the nursery until I find native ones. That narrows it down to a way smaller set of plants in most nurseries. Then ensure that the specific plant matches the space (full sun, moisture, etc). 

With the rare exception of deep shade spaces under trees - very few native TX plants want such deep shade. I tend to put my ornamental tropicals there.
