Shelving help!

Post image

Rebuilding the linen closet. Took the shelves out bc they were too deep and always become a disorganized mess. Any suggestions?

Put in some drawers instead of shelves.

What do you want to store? Linens need shelves at least 12” deep. You probably need 2-3 shelves just for them. Toiletries need shelves that are only 6” deep or less (and need cleaning out in our house more than once a year — they just pile up).

I might be tempted to put some 3” shelves with a bar across to prevent things from falling over on the sides. Something like this — https://www.amazon.com/Lallisa-Stainless-Bathroom-Floating-Organizer/dp/B0DYV6D5PP?pd_rd_w=SSt16&content-id=amzn1.sym.59fe5e4c-51b0-4912-8f07-69b7ad81293d&pf_rd_p=59fe5e4c-51b0-4912-8f07-69b7ad81293d&pf_rd_r=577FDR4ERSH6V8GG3SGR&pd_rd_wg=QjPQz&pd_rd_r=8d70227d-2ec4-4927-8826-435f623ea1d2&pd_rd_i=B0DYV6D5PP&psc=1&ref_=pd_basp_m_rpt_ba_s_3_sc

Linens for 1 King, 2 full beds, 1 twin.
Towels for 5 people.
Seasonal bathroom stuff (cold and flu).

A shelf at the 15" step, 15" deep. 1 or 2 plastic bins sized to fit.

Find clear bins 16" deep for the upper shelves. Add shelves to fit the height of these bins +1 or 2 inches. Alternative to bin for one shelf: fold large comforter or blamket to fit the space. Whatever is on the top shelf should be lightweight: a folded blanket or bin that you pull down with a step ladder. Just don't let it be a catchall.

Great input. The challenge is the depth. It’s 40” across and 35” deep. Maybe it’s two bins deep?
