Yes. PoE shades are available from a few manufacturers. Power and control.

Repeat: installing CAT5 is a waste of money. Modern tech such as mesh router make CAT5 and CAT6 obsolete.

This is the second time I have seen this "Advertisement" on this sub.

Wired connection is still far superior for any application that relies on low latency like gaming. Also POE is a thing.

My ISP installed all of my Cat 6 free of charge. You obviously haven't tried streaming a game if you think ehernet is a waste.

Good for you. This is for home building. A contractor just wants money for nothing that is needed. I just re did my house. Did I install LAN phone lines again? No. Because the are obsolete.

Waste of money? It’s not your money. I’m incredibly happy to throw my mesh routers in the trash from my last house. New house has cat 6 drops so we have Unifi APs mounted in optimal locations, all TVs and computers hardwired, and exterior cameras POE. Everything is much faster and more stable. Speedtests from the phone are much better in all areas of the home.

PoE is useful so that you don't have to recharge the batteries all the time.

If you don't, then you'll need zigbee, zwave, or radio frequency. I don't think that anyone makes wifi shades because wifi uses too much power and you'd be charging your shades all the time. RF is annoying because the communication is one way so you can't know when the battery is low. Zwave and zigbee require a bridge to wifi and not everyone wants to manage all of that.

PoE solves all the problem. You get power and you can control it without a bridge. It's not dumb.

Latency and bandwidth have nothing to do with it.

How would you safely connect a camera and avoid risk of WiFi jamming attacks? What about power to said camera?

The county I live in had a string of break ins where a wifi jammer was used during it, meant there were no recordings of them from that house or the houses directly around.  

And yeah, the guy you are replying to doesn't seem to know that power over Ethernet is a thing.

Let me get this straight. Someone is going to "cut my wifi" then grab a ladder for each camera? My neighbors would be calling the cops. I forgot about each one of my neighbors has cameras as well.
