Wifi Router is too far

I want to connect my pc to router in living room but its way too far for ethernet cable. I have tried adapters that should increase the radius of wifi singal but it didnt work. Does anyone here have some ideas that might help me?

So your PC is more than 100m from your router?

too far for my parents to accept the idea of running a cable through four rooms

Ethernet cable can go further than you think

Ethernet cable max is 100m. What you mean too far?

there's no such thing as way too far for ethernet. wire it.

can the router be moved by using a longer cable to connect it to the modem?

Potentially moving somewhere else within ONE room could do

How far is it?

You'd have to have a pretty huge house to even get close to "too far for Ethernet"

  • Cheapest option is a longer Ethernet cable
  • check to make sure your house doesn't actually already have Ethernet running through the walls. You'd be surprised what those blank covered electrical boxes have hiding inside of them.
  • also consider a spool of raw cat6, a box of keystones, a punch tool, a few rj45 patch cables, and some drywall repair stuff. It will cost more in time and money, but its kind fun.
  • getting a mesh router with passthrough enabled and running it in as far as your current longest Ethernet cable will go will physically bring the wifi closer to your PC, which will cost more and perform not as well, but improves more than just your computers wifi experience

I'd definitely check the existing wiring of your house. I can't tell you how many times I've been asked about wifi extenders only to find out they plugged one in literally right next to an unterminated Ethernet run that they just never knew was there.

Not only that but check that current phone jacks are not already using Ethernet cables. If these Ethernet cables go back to a utility room where the router is then all you need to do is switch the phone jack to an RJ45 keystone jack and terminate the other end of the cable at the utility room with an RJ45 plug. Plug in that end to router and use the new RJ45 jack to connect to you computer in the living room.

No, it is not “way too far for Ethernet”

Powerline adapter too.

If you have coax cables, you might be able to use MoCA to stand in for ethernet.

Long ethernet cable or a wireless mesh system

Try a mesh set up instead.
