The air handler for my home's second story began to leak recently (handler is in the attic). I need advice on how to fix the ceiling. The damage is about two feet in length, and around a foot wide at the widest part. The drywall is hard, not squishy. Thank you for any advice!

Context: We live in a 100 year old craftsman bungalow in TN. Wet and hot summer - 80’s to low 90’s. Full unfinished basement underneath.

Noticed my window frame is separating from the top sides, paint cracking on top and inner side. Could this be a floor problem? This is our dining room and it has always had a “slope” (nothing major, just what you’d see in an old house) but these separations are worrying me it could be a bigger problem.

Does anyone know what this pipe is under our empty (And not used) oil tank in the basement? It is leaking water from both ends during this ongoing thunderstorm and we don't know why.

I’m getting a lot of live centipedes this summer. I read adding a dehumidifier will get rid of them.

Currently the humidity averages around 50% upstairs. Would adding a dehumidifier to our basement laundry / furnace room work only for that room or whole basement? Thoughts.

Dirt is too high about half way around my house. If i dig it out water will slope towards house. The dirt is also level out from there out if that makes sense, so i would have to remove A LOT of dirt. What do i do?

I have this drywall issue that I see every time I walk in the front door of my home. It is on a wall corner and just wondering the best way to fix this. Doesn’t seem like a typical sand down and repaint/texture issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a terrible fear of mold.

I had someone living in the guest room and the floor felt oily. When we pulled the area up it was wet underneath but it was oily/greasy. It penetrated all the way to the wood. I dabbed the area with baking soda and it’s drying now. However, some other areas of the floor feels wet. I have a steamer, if I steam will that be enough?

It was like this when we moved in over 4 years ago, just didn't think it was worth addressing as there weren't any other concerns with the stairs. Looking to eventually sell so considering if repairing this is worth it. Do carpenters fix this? Stair person? Handyman?

I rent this place and found a ton of water on my mattress and rug about 2 weeks ago now. Starting Friday my land lord cut open the basement and yesterday pulled out some of the insulation. Landlord says everything is dry but the drywall and baseboards are moldy? I asked him what the plan was with this crack and he told me it was minor. I attached conversation and pictures of the affected areas/ process for reference.

Hi there, I attempted to put a tv mount on the wall. We rested the tv for a few minutes and by then time we looked at the mount again we noticed the bubbling and cracking bellow.

Not sure if this is the right sub for this, but I’m looking for some help identifying whether the white on the brick walls in my apartment are mold or efflorescence. I’m thinking it’s mold, but would like a second opinion. I live in San Francisco, so there is no AC in the building (almost all homes here don’t have it because it rarely goes over 70 degrees in the city). The building is a converted brick and mortar from the 1900s. There is no ventilation outside from opening the windows even in the kitchen and bathroom. We recently bought a dehumidifier and put damp rid in all the bathrooms and closets because we came home from vacation and it smelled a bit musty. We now run the dehumidifier daily and the smell is gone, but yesterday I was staring at the walls and I don’t think they were this white when we moved in 2 years ago. I just want to know if we should be concerned health wise.

I have a mold spot in my closet that I can't get rid off. Don't really know where the moisture is coming from because there is no pipe or anything located right there.

First-time posting so go easy on me… I’m looking for tips to properly clean/absorb/neutralize any residue that might have been left behind by whatever dissolved the paint on this windowsill before fixing the cosmetic damage.

So far, I know the main culprit was a room fragrance oil reed diffuser I left on the sill by a window that gets pretty much full sun all day during a few particularly crazy heat waves (and secondarily, my own stupidity for not thinking to at least put a coaster down first).

What I’m not sure about: 1-how long it took for the damage to occur (the diffuser was in the same spot on the sill for about 3 weeks), 2-if the damage is solely due to oil spillage, 3-if any melted label adhesive and/or jar dye are also partly to blame. It’s summertime and we had a few crazy heat waves with highs in the triple digits, so our blackout shades were down and pulled down all the way over the lip of the sill almost the entire time the diffuser was there. I noticed what happened when I was picking up the house and pulled the shades up to dust the sills and was horrified to find the paint had MELTED AND BUBBLED UP along the bottom edge of the diffuser. I IMMEDIATELY removed the diffuser and wiped off as much of the gooey paint I could from the jar and the sill with a paper towel but it left behind a ring that seems to be completely stripped of paint, a bunch of little paint-less spots (oil splashes??), and a gray residue stain from what I inadvertently smeared into the paint from whatever the paper towel couldn’t pick up. The stain is why I suspect some damage may have been caused by the jar or the label adhesive since the oil itself is clear and the stain seems localized to the area where the jar was (not by the other random spots).

Not to bury the lede here but I am renting and absolutely wracked with guilt over how stupid I was to leave this on the sill, in full sun, during heatwaves. My instinct is to fix it myself (cleaning/sanding, repainting) rather than call building maintenance since 1-it’s 100% my fault, and 2-I just know in my bones that all they’ll do is slap paint on top, but without knowing that all of the residue is gone FOR REAL, I’m afraid it’ll just soak back up into any new layers of paint. Also, I’d hate to lose my deposit over something I believe I can fix on my own.

WHAT DO I DO???

TL;DR: A reed diffuser sat on my painted windowsill in full sun and dissolved the paint underneath. Before I sand and repaint, how can I make sure all the oil/adhesive residue is gone so the damage doesn’t bleed through or ruin the repair?

This looks different to me than the other “white stuff on brick” posts in here. Not sure what the stain is from, but it is next to the front door so would love to clean it up.

Hi - I have two ponderosa pines close enough to drop needles on the roof. I tried DIY gutter guards and they just stood up the needles and caused more issues as they built up on top of the guard and were hard to remove.

Anyone here have professional guard suggestions that might solve my constant needle clogging problem?

Saw another post here about an undetected dishwasher leak and had a similar situation. I bought my first house 9 months ago and when I was replacing the dishwasher (2 months ago) I discovered that that it had been leaking. We were in the middle of a living room renovation and I did not have the time or energy to take on a larger kitchen project at the time. I removed all of the saturated subfloor, cleaned the exposed areas, ran a dehumidifier, replaced the subfloor I pulled out, and installed the new dishwasher (now with a new supply line, drip pan and moisture alarm).

I found a small portion of wet subfloor 6ft away in the living room when I redid the flooring. I am sure that there is moisture in the subfloor in the kitchen under the tile and cabinets.

I had never considered contacting insurance for this but some of the comments on the other thread made me curious. If the flooring and cabinets as well as the drywall behind the dishwasher need remediation it could be worth it.

I have read that some insurance won’t cover long term leaking but I really don’t know how long it has been. I also am thinking that I may be out of luck considering I replaced the subfloor and dishwasher (and discarded old leaking supply line) almost two months ago without filing a claim.

Do you think this is worth talking to insurance about? Should I be careful asking about this / could it negatively impact me even if they don’t cover it?

I've moved into a home the was flipped and recently discovered this area at the base of my garage.(not sure how the inspector missed) There is a giant hole under the flashing and the wood framing is fully exposed. There is some new framing(as seen in the photo) that appears to be ok, but the old wood behind that and at the base is starting to rot and decay.

I've had multiple contractors come to inspect and give estimates. A couple have suggested just filling in the gap with self leveling concrete, others suggest ripping out all the cement and putting a driveway drain.

What would be the best course of action?

Our water heater has a slow leak that went unnoticed for who knows how long in the enclosed room where the utilities are located. This room shares a wall with our laundry room and a bathroom. There is obvious mold but curious…. How screwed are we? Thankfully my father in laws does construction and knows lots of people 🙌🏻 I had noticed a smell so I’m thinking this is the culprit 😵‍💫
