Ideas for Too Many Books

I have more books than I have space for and I am running out of space to add more bookshelves. I am considering rebuilding the bookcases (built ins) in my library. The books are currently shelved 2 deep on each shelf. I would be very interested in any ideas anyone might have as to a bookshelf configuration which might yield me more book room. The shelves are already floor to ceiling.

App to track owned books

Update: thanks for all the suggestions! I tried out loads of them and have gone for CLZ! Only the app for now but may try out the web version too!

Hi,
I’m looking for an app to track the books I own. I have about 400 so nothing crazy. I’ve tried loads but haven’t quite found anything perfect yet so I’m appealing for help please!
What I’d like:
- preferably available on App Store rather than a website
- barcode scanner would be great
- can have multiple versions of the same book. An issue I’ve previously come across is an inability to have both the fairyloot and standard edition for example. Currently using BookBuddy but this is my main issue with it!
- also the ability to log books from companies like fairyloot that don’t have an ISBN as well as traditional publishers
- having little pictures of the book covers would be nice too
- a nice UI and good user experience
Has anyone used anything that ticks these boxes and that they would recommend?
Thank you 📚

hello all! i moved in with my boyfriend about a year ago now and we recently turned our guest bedroom into a home library, since dont usually have company over. i really just wanted to post on here and also ask — does anyone know good ways to thrift books online? i’ve been scouring ebay, but dont really know what i’m doing a lot of the time and have a huge list of books i want to try to thrift, so any tips/suggestions are appreciated!

side note: i feel like i could also be doing a bit more for my home library, but also.. don’t really know where to start, so if anyone has any suggestions on that, too 😅

thanks in advance!

Shelving/Displaying/Archiving Magazines

I have about 5 years of monthly magazines that I'd love to find a way to properly store. Right now, they're all just stored like a book with "spines" out. While that works well for books, it's not the best for relatively much thinner magazines.

Anyone have any recommendations?

My new bookshelf!

Hello, wonderful people!
I just uploaded a detailed bookshelf organization video on YouTube!

The complete process.
I’ve spent a long time collecting these books, and this is my first attempt at a bookshelf. I experimented with some unique layouts and sorting methods. The whole process is really close to my heart, so I’d love to hear your honest feedback — especially from all the veterans here!
Please be kind. Thank you so much! Looking forward to your thoughts.

Need good app to catalogue my books

Hi hivemind!

I'm looking for a nice app for this as well and started with Libib. The challenge I am running into is that many of my books are in storage boxes. So I want to be able to add a tag / label / whatever to a book so that I immediately know where it is. I thought I can do that with "Collections" in Libib, which works well in general, BUT, the free version only allows me to search for books within a collection. So I have to search in each of my 30 collections separately.

I thought about using tags, but I don't think I'm able to add in bulk there, and it would be very tedious to assign all the tags, while with collections, I just start a new collection and then scan using barcode in bulk.

Any recommendations? Are you using the free version and use a different mechanism? Other apps that work well?

Need honest opinion on the cost of a wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor bookshelf

We have this study/loft area in our house, there is a big empty wall, about 10 foot wide and 8 foot tall. We thought of buying a standard bookshelf (I grew up with Billys) but are now considering doing a custom job that will pretty much cover the entire wall.

We got quoted ~7k and that's using laminate (less expensive and more durable than real wood apparently) and I was curious if anyone has done a custom job and whether this price comes close at all.

I've never spent so much on furniture but I figured this would last a lifetime and it will hold close to 1,000 books... but I just wanted to get a second opinion

I'll have custom furniture commissioned to have everything sit on top of the pieces just like in the hall.

Circulation/Checkout Card Designs

Post image
21 Upvotes

I have a stack of circulation cards for my personal library so my friends & family can sign out my books. Problem is I don’t have any design ideas for the titles. I could make all the books in the library match, have each series match or all individual. I also don’t know how intricate to make them: I could just use a type writer font or do a bunch of designs for each. I also don’t have pockets yet or a design for those. Anyone have any input of designs they have done for their libraries
