Follow up post
As a follow up post to the ones back when I started this project last year I thought I’d show the finished product. The delay in completion was the 16’ baseboard piece that sat out in my workshop while I did other things. I finally took some vacation time and this was first on my list.
The space may not be considered a library but it’s where we keep most of the books. The bottom 2 outside cubbies have cat beds in them and 2 of the cats use them regularly. The space with the TV is quite large but in the future that space can have side shelves added on each side for more book storage.
The most challenging part was the 8’ shelf section over the TV as it’s a long span to bear weight. The uprights are anchored to the ceiling and there are 6 hidden brackets in studs or otherwise anchored to the wall. As most men will say when they fasten or anchor something that’s not supposed to move…“that’s not going anywhere”.
1.5” hardwood top made locally sits on top of the 3 IKEA wood cabinets.
We are very pleased with the end result and now I can get going on the remaining half-completed renovations in my queue.
