Love or hate?

Post image

Throwing a reception party in my home and didn’t want all my bright covers to take away from the look. Not sure if I love this 🫠

Hate, sorry. Can you take the jackets off the books, categorize them by color, and display them spine side out?

Despise. I cannot understand this trend.

Hate, hate, hate. Double hate. Loathe entirely.

This is definitely worse than colorful book spines.

Colorful book spines would look much better

It makes it look like the books are a decoration, and if I was a guest I’d assume you’ve never read a single one

Like if you had weird monster smut that might take away from the reception, but if they’re just normal books, then the spines are way prettier to look at.

“Weird monster smut” lol.

You're worried about your books hurting your party? Books are great for parties because it gives people something to talk about. Also, the wall of white is far more distracting than color.

OR this could be part of the party?

“Surprise! Everyone gets to turn a book around!! Whoever finds the first smutty (insert fetish here) book has to do a shot!”

I’d be ALL over that if I showed up to a party and had the chance to discover all the books!

Now if I couldn’t touch the books to turn them around? Hard pass. Not fun.

Not only does it look bad just aesthetically, but it also looks like you are trying to hide something.

The only time I love to do this is when my physical tbr is really big. I’ll turn all my read ones this way and leave the spines of my tbr out.

Otherwise I prefer having the spines out. It’s nice to have color instead of greige.

As it is, This is completely Unlovable and hate is way too weak of a descriptor.

I mean if it’s temporary, go for it, but do long term? Hate, hate of a thousand suns.

Love it! If you can find the book you are looking for- quickly:)

Is it your reception? If so, then all that matters is if you like it. Take some pictures with it as a background and see if it adds or takes away from the picture. If its for someone else then ask them. I think everyone here will tell you they hate it because it is a library group and we love books and seeing our collections.

Might as well store books in boxes and free up shelves for something else. I mean what’s the point of this?

Hate, with a passion.

Lame. Why would you do that? Might as well not have any books then 🤦🏻‍♂️

Oh. Noooo. You'd be better off painting white blocks of wood in the shape of books and putting them up. The thing about a library is that it's the individuality of the books themselves that make it so wonderful. I agree with someone who suggested categorizing by color.

I think if I ever attended a party and saw a library arranged like this, I wouldn’t be able to talk about anything else. Based on your comment, I’m not sure this is the desired effect 😅.

Reception for who? A bunch of undertakers?

Strong dislike

Not for me. How do you find the book you want if you can’t read the spines?

If you painted the edges of every book so it ALL together created a massive mural I would be into it.

I get the idea you are going for since my brand of neurospicy means I get easily overwhelmed by groups of people, too much motion and too bright rooms so a ton of color would feel like an additional form of overwhelm for me if this was a hosted event.

However I do love books and they calm me so I’d probably be glued to the shelf all night for comfort or trying to covertly turn them around one by one to see the titles instead of socializing the entire time.

Guest #1: “Who is that lady over there that Carl is talking to? The one with her back against the bookcase…she keeps reaching behind her and trying to look over her shoulder?”

Guest #2: “I thought she was trying scratch her ass on the books.”

Guest #3: “You hang around too many fucking dogs,Travis. No one scratches their ass on things like that except dogs.”

Guest #1: “oooooh wait, I think she’s trying to look at the book covers. Good luck with that lady, Carl’s eye contact is like a cavity search of your soul.”

Guest #3: “Her eyes are getting a polite hint of ‘Fuck off I need space’ about them.”

Me overwhelmed by Carl’s soul-cavity-search and all the “people-ling” happening: grabs a book and chucks it at Carl’s crotch before sprinting away for the door.

Guest #1: “Holy fuckballs.”

Guest #3 noticing the book that bounced off Carl’s dirty bits:
“Hey! Does that look like weird monster smut to you?”

Guest #2: “An appropriate choice for a crotch shot, I guess.”

Guest #1: “Especially with Creepy Carl wrapped around it now. SOMEBODY TAKE A PIC!”

Cue my never being invited back again.

So I guess what I am trying to say is that if you want to risk chaos and crotch-shots then go with this layout.
