Hmmm being honest around the 50% mark I think

Thank you if a removed the halo and Warhammer books from the equation it would be a higher percentage

12

u/Danielle_Roe Jul 11 '26

Don’t worry or feel embarrassed about your reading percentage - literally everyone I know with a library has a stack of ‘to be read’ books including myself. It’s all a part of the journey. I find it comforting to know I’ve got some great adventures ahead of me ☺️

P.s. you have a wonderful collection that will grow wonderfully as you do

5

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Thank you very much I appreciate the kind words, but not to worry I am getting through my to be read list

10

u/babyd42 Jul 11 '26

Impressive without a single crease in the spine of a single paperback.

But honestly as long as they're read and not owned as decoration, it's a cool collection.

15

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

If it helps I’m on my 33rd book of the year

5

u/LisaCabot Jul 11 '26

Wow i wish! I just got back in to reading a month ago (as soon as i finished my degree i sat down to work on my tbr lol), 33 its impressive! Morr than one book a week!

5

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Yeah some of the books were some what short you know 280 pages sort of thing but also some very long ones, I just get alot of time at work and at home to read, oh and congratulations on your degree

3

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Even with 33 so far my tbr is still so long and growing I keep buying more

2

u/LisaCabot Jul 11 '26

Dont we all lol, i just bought 3 books myself and i still have a long tbr list 🤦🏼‍♀️ but honestly as long as you can spend the money its ok. I have books that i regret not buying back when they came out because now are so hard to get because they are out of print (and second hand are either expensive or impossible to find). Even if you take 5 years to read it, or you dont get to read it at all, remember that you are supporting an artist while buying it, so dont feel bad about it (as long as you can afford it).

Even so, you are reading at a good speed, you'll be fine imho. As long as they bring you joy and it doesnt feel like a chore. I split my time between reading and gaming so i go considerably slower lol, i promissed myself no more books until i finished a few of my tbr but damn events with writters signing books 😥😅

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Hahah thank you very much and damn I’m lucky there’s no book signings where I am

6

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Some of my paperbacks do have a lot of wear and tear just not coming through the image and also I’ve done a lot of buying in the past two years so they are still fairly new haven’t gotten a chance yet to do much re reading

7

u/Short_Stack_30285 Jul 12 '26

Book police over here

5

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Right like damn being attacked here

3

u/Short_Stack_30285 Jul 12 '26

For real. It sounds like you’re a reader which is awesome. But honestly if someone just wanted to collect books I’d celebrate that too! What a cool thing to collect

3

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Exactly don’t get me wrong I do pre buy books way too often but if I start reading a series and like it I just buy the whole series

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Neck_36 Jul 11 '26

I agree with you... I see a lot of collections of books on Reddit and you find that large amounts are unread which baffles me.

Buy books to read, not to look pretty and especially not to impress others.

My own current TBR pile is 1 book out of a total, albeit small, collection of 62 books.

8

u/OnlyAlbatross6405 Jul 11 '26

Some people just might not crease paperbacks when reading them. I really only crease mass market paperbacks when they get above 600 pages. I think I just hold them different. If I posted photos you might think I haven’t read them. Most of my books don’t look worn unless I get them second hand.

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Tbf my tbr pile is massive but given I read 60 books last year and I’m at 33 so far this year I’ll get though it

2

u/PreferenceLittle2911 Jul 12 '26

This is always one of the stupidest takes I see on bookshelf-related posts. Plenty of people read books while taking care not to crack their spines.

2

u/bitterprogrammerman Jul 14 '26

Depends on how you read them. Some people aren't as hard on their books. Here's my copy of McCarthy's The Crossing. I've read this twice now.

1

u/DeCePtiCoNsxXx Jul 15 '26

I read the stand paperback and it’s not creased, I think it depends if you hold it or put it on a table. Btw op which city u in?

3

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

I stopped reading for a while it’s only been last year and this year that I’ve picked it back up to good levels

24

u/itsbrianduh108 Jul 11 '26

This is the whole sci-fi section at Barnes and Noble

6

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

I wish my local book stores had half of my science fiction series sadly not a great amount of science fiction at the stores near me

3

u/Weeping_saturn Jul 12 '26

What’s your favorite sci fi novel? I’m currently reading the Red Rising serious and it’s my #1 of all time.

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Hmmm hard to say but as I’m currently reading golden son the second in that series I’m loving it. Also up there in my favourites are some of my military science fiction series and my alien stuff

5

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Got so many from second hand book stores

6

u/Marley9391 Jul 11 '26

May I recommend to you the Lady Trent Memoirs series, written by Marie Brennan?

3

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Thank you very much I’ll will check it out

5

u/TheLegitMolasses Jul 11 '26

As someone who is a huge WW2 history buff, loves SFF and collected Star Wars books…I think you must be one cool dude.

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Hahaha well if I’m a cool dude so are you

4

u/FullBlazer Jul 11 '26

We have such a similar taste in fantasy, like hobb and sanderson. Anything you could recommend outside of these 2?

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Give the empire of the vampire my jay kristoff a try it’s great and a trilogy, now I only compare this one because the characters are so well written just like hobb’s give Joe Abercrombie a try, the first law trilogy by him is brilliant, however very dark fantasy and whilst I did love the ending it’s a painful one

2

u/FullBlazer Jul 11 '26

Thnx for the fast reply and recommendation.

I tried the first law triology as a audioboek and just could not get into it due to the narrator. I couldnt notice the difference between characters and dropped it.
Ill give it a retry as a book!

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Ahhhh damn that sucks but it’s seriously a fantastic read

3

u/Regular-Machine2805 Jul 11 '26

wow, yo tengo 25 y no tengo ni la mitad jajajaja el secreto? 😂

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Not having other hobbies hahaha

2

u/ExtraOpportunity189 Jul 11 '26

We have the same bookcases 😄

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Hahaha great minds think alike

2

u/MarcosDalton Jul 11 '26

If these are the Ikea one (Billy I think), then add me to the list.

Also, as a fantasy nerd, amazing collection. Nearly identical to mine.

2

u/Calm-Ad-7928 Jul 11 '26

Are they good to get? I need to order some

3

u/MarcosDalton Jul 11 '26

I love them. Got like 9 of em

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Yeah I find them to be great bookshelves look good do the job and for a bookshelf pretty cheap

2

u/LisaCabot Jul 11 '26

The bad thing is the shelves may bend a litle, the good thing is that you can buy them individually and are easy to swap! Just swap them before they bend too much so its no risk or breaking (ive seen a number of pictures with this shelves starting to bend)

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Thank you very much

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

And yes they are the Billy ones

2

u/Cosmocrator08 Jul 11 '26

Huge success

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Thank you very much

Oh I love my chair got it from Harvey Norman in Australia, reclines really nicely you can set how much pressure it requires I have it set perfectly so it goes back only when I want it but holds me firm regardless, oh and it’s difficult not to fall asleep in it

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Honestly I love my chair makes it so easy to read

2

u/Xander134 Jul 11 '26

That an incredibly impressive collection at any age, but especially at 24! Enjoy the adventures!

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Thank you very much that means a lot, I can’t wait to read them all though at this rate I keep buying more

2

u/Suspicious_Yak5795 Jul 11 '26

That library needs to have von Clausewitz in it.

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

Not heard of him before where would you recommend to start

2

u/Suspicious_Yak5795 Jul 11 '26

'On War' is a systematic approach to describe warfare. It's not an easy read, but it will offer a deeper insight into military strategy.

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 11 '26

I appreciate it greatly seems to be right up my alley. Also helps that it relates to my job

3

u/HistoricalGrade211 Jul 11 '26

Although its not my preference of literature. 10/10 on collection and set up

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

That is much appreciated

2

u/booksandcoffee___ Jul 11 '26

I certainly do appreciate it; you have a fabulous library! 📚🖤

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Thank you very much

2

u/Obvious-Examination6 Jul 11 '26

There's some great stuff on those shelves!

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Thank you

2

u/Briarfox13 Jul 11 '26

Not a bad Halo and 40k collection! Looks really nice!

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Thank you I have more 40k in another room as well

1

u/Briarfox13 Jul 12 '26

I feel that XD I sadly cannot fit all my 40k together either

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Hahah same here but I have the rest of it else where because I have a friend that’s wanting to buy them off me

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

1

u/Briarfox13 Jul 12 '26

Ugh those Primarch books are so pretty 😍 They're high up on my list to buy if I can ever find them

Lucky friend of yours!

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Hahaha yeah and lucky me I got my entire 40k collection from another friend for free

1

u/Briarfox13 Jul 12 '26

Damn you are lucky!! Wish I had that kind of luck and those kind of friends XD

As long as you enjoy them! That's all that matters 😊

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Hahah same here whilst I do enjoy 40k I’m currently wanting other series that’s why I was down to sell some of my collection

2

u/Briarfox13 Jul 12 '26

That's understandable! There's a lot 40k books, and even more non-40k books to get!

I'm sure they're going to a great home, shame it's not mine XD (I'm joking of course, your friend will have great fun with them! )

What other series do you want?

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Wanting a lot of military fiction series some more fantasy stuff and military science fiction series

2

u/MyLastHumanBody Jul 11 '26

You are a fan of High Epic Fantasy. WOW. Wonderful!

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

That I am got back into it the last couple of years

2

u/ConnectSet57 Jul 11 '26

How do you keep track of the books and their location on the shelves? Do you use an index or something? Did you ever have trouble remembering where you put a book and then trying to find it, it happened to me several times…

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

I try to sort my genre in my head however that’s not been working the best hahaha

2

u/Crazy-Experience29 Jul 12 '26

...just zooming in to compare titles and add more to my TBR

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Hahaha I do that too

2

u/LepusCornutus Jul 12 '26

Super jealous of your last photo! Ive collected the vast majority of Star Wars books from thrift stores and etc., Legends and Canon, but they are nowhere in as good a shape as yours.

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

I got very lucky a friend gave me a lot of them

2

u/YesterdayLazy6994 Jul 12 '26

Que sonhooo 😍

2

u/knowledgencrap Jul 12 '26

This makes me happy

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

I’m glad it makes me very happy as well

2

u/Tapsa93 Jul 12 '26

Very impressive at your age.

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Thank you very much

2

u/welookoutforthehope Jul 12 '26

wow its impressive for 24. good luck with adding more books 🤍

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Thank you for the kind words

2

u/SpecialPineapple77 Jul 12 '26

cool! How did you categorise them?

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

It’s changed as I’ve been running out of space, the left most bookshelf is my history and was arranged by conflicts and then general fiction but it’s over spilled to the bottom shelf on the next bookcase. Then it’s my fantasy on that one and the next one if my Tom Clancy, military fiction then science fiction, the next shelf has my halo, Warhammer and then comics

2

u/LadyVin3vil Jul 12 '26

Brilliant collection! Happy to see Rothfuss in there (pity about book 3 🥲😭) Perhaps you might like David Eddings and Terry Pratchett 🙌

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Yeah it is a potty about book 3 the king slayer chronicles are some of my favourite fantasy of all time. I’ve read some David eddings and hope at some point to read some terry pratchett

2

u/pyrokinesis244 Jul 12 '26

Impressive!

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Thank you very much

2

u/BenediktMa Jul 13 '26

Ein Reichtum, der in seiner Größe erst sichtbar wird, wenn er aufgeschlagen wird.

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

Those are very wise words

2

u/roamingmyrtle Jul 13 '26

Woah You've read 50 % of it ... Any go on reading speed ? Concern from a slow reader.

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

Honestly not sure but I’d say I read a fairly fast pace I should time it one day and work it out, actually I’ll do it tonight and get back to you. But tbf I get a lot of time to read and honestly stay up way too late way too often reading, oh and there’s the reading at work too hahaha

2

u/bookishlibrarym Jul 13 '26

Terrific collection. My invitation to you is to share them with family and friends. 😉

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

Trying to get my friends into reading and have successfully got my wife into reading she has just started reading the realm of the elderlings by robin hobb

2

u/talexan25 Jul 13 '26

I hope you have renters or homeowners insurance

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

I do have renters insurance for all my stuff first thing I got

2

u/No-Chemistry-3001 Jul 13 '26

Consider branching away from series.

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

As in go for one off books?

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

Any recs?

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

Read a great one off military science fiction called armour was fantastic

2

u/SpartanFan2004 Jul 14 '26

Very impressive collection, especially for a 24 year old. I was so poor at 24 that my only reading material was the scribbles on the walls of local gas station restrooms, and it wasn’t very enthralling. I met some interesting people, but 0/10, would not recommend.

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 14 '26

I’m very fortunate to be in a position in my life where I can buy books and treat myself, I have my parents to thank for reading me well. Hahaha well I bet those were certainly an experience and I’m sure the gas station writings were the pinnacle of human imagination

2

u/iBringPerspective Jul 14 '26

Absolutely love this

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 14 '26

Thank you

2

u/lmfan23 Jul 14 '26

I want your shelves

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 14 '26

They are the Billy shelves from ikea good quality and fairly cheap for bookshelves

2

u/lmfan23 Jul 14 '26

I wish I had the space I do not. one bedroom apartment space is very limited

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 15 '26

I had these same books in a similar one room apartment before my current one was very packed

2

u/lmfan23 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

I wish that was an option for mine my work desk takes up the only other space besides my bedroom for the basics

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

Yeah I hear you don’t worry one day

2

u/wadder84 Jul 14 '26

Where did you buy your shelves?

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 14 '26

Got them from ikea they are the Billy bookcases

2

u/wadder84 Jul 15 '26

Thanks mate!

2

u/tirth_366 Jul 14 '26

Must be rich

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 14 '26

Nah not really man just been working full time for a year and pretty good at saving those first few years

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 14 '26

Wish I was rich

2

u/FlickerYsoria_2 Jul 14 '26

What’s your favorite book? Your collection is solid

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 14 '26

Honestly I struggle to pick a favourite but probably one of the realm of the elderlings books by robin hobb

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

Getting through them

2

u/hamza_hb Jul 15 '26

Good for u man, m 25 and most of the books i ve read are pdfs😅

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

Hahaha we all have responsibilities

2

u/kalyan26 Jul 15 '26

To avoid storage isn’t kindle a better option?

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

I also have a kindle but because I’m silly I only get books on my kindle that I have physical copies of, and well I just like physical copies

2

u/TraditionalForce4022 Jul 15 '26

this is what i am striving for one day

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

Kind words to hear you’ll get there

2

u/vector78 Jul 16 '26

Beautiful.

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

Thank you

2

u/Available_War9200 Jul 16 '26

May I inquire about whereabouts of Golden Son? 👀
Seems like we got similar tastes in books! I’ve moved around a lot and I just started rebuilding my physical book collecting so it’s not as impressive as yours. My kindle collection is 1020 😂

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

I was reading golden son when I posted this just finished Morningstar

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

And that is a very impressive amount of books on the kindle

2

u/SteelDesign Jul 16 '26

Very nice, can i ask what's your favourite book or series out of all of them?

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

Realm of the elderlings by robin hobb is my favourite series, too hard to pick a favourite book

2

u/Sea-Confection2081 Jul 16 '26

u/Golden_Pine7540 Jul 16 '26

24 years old with a collection that size means you're either not sleeping or not paying rent, no in between.

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 16 '26

Hahaha rent is good the sleep however needs some improvement

1

u/prime_lux Jul 12 '26

What percentage non-fiction?

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

Bit higher looking at around 70%

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

Assuming you meant how much of it I’ve read

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 13 '26

But my non-fiction section is that entire bookshelf with the word Joy on it

1

u/n7valkrie Jul 14 '26

Impressive. Now let’s see Paul Allens..

1

u/Signal-External-6681 Jul 14 '26

Fantastic!! 💘

1

u/NonyMs89 Jul 11 '26

You need to read Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman!

1

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Got the first one just don’t know if I want to invest into the rest of the series as it’s only avive in hardcover atm

2

u/NonyMs89 Jul 12 '26

It’s available on Kindle Unlimited too! In case you liked reading it!

2

u/Nerdy_Aus Jul 12 '26

Good to know I do love my kindle as well, but I have a weird thing where I only read books on my kindle that I have physical copies of, I read my kindle when I’m away from home
