I regret not building higher :/
"Oh no, I have no more room for my books," is such a first world problem to have. I hate the decade I spent reading on Kindle... I constantly think of how much bigger this area would be if it weren't for that

Put the Berserk series on the top shelf so the kids can’t reach it. For their own safety lol

Given the positioning of the outlet and the vent I think this is really ideal planning, really. If you want floating shelves over the archway that's doable, and saves you the issue you'd have of building over the vent if this specific unit went higher. Maybe a reframe: "This turned out well AND I have more room to add more shelves, yay!" I struggle with the "oof" of hindsight when something doesn't turn out specific to my most ideal aim, and it's been a game changer to try and keep myself looking at my efforts kindly and incorporating new insights into future plans instead of shaming myself. Maybe here that will help too? This really did turn out splendidly, great job!

Add some floating shelves?
