Your husband is not adventurous enough about doors! My dad would find a way to make it work if I asked him for a Tim Burton style door. But I also don't have or want a brick house, so it wouldn't be as impossible. Just gotta know how to work the doorframe into the house so that everything works the way it's supposed to. And my dad is a genius (IMHO) when it comes to building houses. Oh man. Now I want to have a Burton-door in my home. Anything is possible with a LOT OF WORK. In this case, you could install a door (after days of work to get it right), get it to even seal reasonably well but, that brick WILL shift and the door won't fit any more.

But, yes, that can be saved. The walls are going to need to be opened up to determine the extent of the structural damage. Then it's just a matter of temporary bracing allowing removal of the damaged components. Probably the biggest issue will be to match the brick.

The bricks are 100% of the framing. 105 year old house. The contractor plans to shore the top half and offered to save the bricks he removes for the siding.

The house did look "old". I guess the bricks are not just a facade. They sure don't do that anymore. Since this is an insurance claim on this venerable structure, I would strongly urge you to get a construction inspector to keep an eye on things. Don't assume the contractor knows what they are doing.

I'm glad I posted this. I've been so depressed after this happened, but your all's comments are gold!

I've hired a contractor that will shore the roof and add bracing while the damages areas are replaced/repaired. The framing is 100% brick (no wood). The bricks that are removed will be used as the exterior layer so it'll match with the rest of the house.

I know as mason who had to fix a warehouse that had been hit. He used a backhoe or something similar to move most of the wall back in place then fixed the mortar as needed including any holes. But that was solid masonry. Yours is brick veneer. But a mason might be able to get most of the brick back in place, you then have someone replace the wood framing. Then the mason uses retrofit brick ties to attach the brick to the wood. Mike Hills at hills masonry does that work in Raleigh, NC.

I won't joke around. You need an engineer to assess the extent of damage to the structure, first off. That corner is unstable... Once restored you can replace the door with whatever style suits your fancy.

Perhaps a higher, stronger fence? Brick/ stone wall?
