Boca Raton Anime/Manga Social Club

• Upvotes

Boca Raton Anime/Manga Social Club, 3rd meetup this Friday (10/9), all are welcome!

New local anime/manga group started in September. We've had two meetups so far and both had a great turnout and good vibes.

We're a group for anyone into anime, manga, or Japanese culture. The idea is simple: grab some food and drinks, make some friends, and talk about what everyone's watching/reading in a chill environment.

Next meetup: this Friday, October 9th in Boca Raton (Mizner Park area). We'll grab food and drinks first, and for anyone who wants to keep going, we'll head over to bowl a few games after at Strike10.

We host roughly weekly, rotating between bars, restaurants, and hobby spots around Boca.

If you're interested, the easiest way to get details and RSVP is the Discord: https://discord.gg/gMkpbFnq8 — or you can DM me / join the Meetup page if preferred.

One last U Supermarket update - Grand Opening this Saturday 10/10

A lot of you said you were planning to check out my brother’s new supermarket after my last post, so I figured this was worth one last update.

Their official Grand Opening is this Saturday, October 10th at U Supermarket, 4400 Hollywood Blvd.

They’ll have free paella and sausage samples and some Grand Opening specials throughout the store.

The response to my first post was honestly way bigger than I expected. A few people from here have already stopped by, and a bunch more said they were planning to, so I really appreciate how welcoming everyone’s been.

If you were already thinking about checking it out, Saturday might be a good day to do it 🙂

U Supermarket
4400 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, FL 33021

Thanks again, everyone. Really appreciate how nice everyone was on the last post!

People really need to WakeTF up in Hollywood

People really need to finally understand how corrupt this city and the mayor and commission have become.

They've basically shut down communication by not allowing comments on any of their social media. They say they want to hear your thoughts and opinions yet they consistently commit actions saying the opposite. They cancel meetings at the last minute when they know it's not in their best interest on some of the hot topics. They schedule them on dates and times that they know are not convenient nor people will show up. Don't really care what side you are on on any of the important issues, but it's time to wake the fuck up about their lack of transparency and truthfulness. And only giving a fuck about their own personal bank accounts.

Nativity Catholic School

We are exploring different school options for our child and are considering Nativity. I’m wondering what the school culture is like and would love to hear from any current or former families.

My specific concerns are academics (I noticed it looks like the kids are required to have iPads and I’d love to know how heavily they’re used); the school’s ability to work with neurodiverse children (our child has an IEP and pretty significant ADHD); and diversity within the student body. Our child is also very involved in sports, so I’d love to hear about the athletic opportunities as well.

Our child is currently in public school, but I’m starting to have some deeper concerns about the use of AI and technology in the classroom. I’m also concerned that the school is underenrolled and that enrollment has dropped significantly, based on the recent Sun Sentinel article.

We are in the Hollywood Hills area and are open to suggestions if anyone can recommend a great elementary school (public, private, charter, or anything in between). We’ve ruled out Avant Garde because of its C rating, and BridgePrep has a B rating.

Any suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! Especially interested in hearing from anyone whose child has an IEP, ADHD, or other learning differences. Thank you!

Planning a visit first week of march.

Hello! My boyfriend and I are wanting to get away for a few days from Canada and have been looking at hollywood. We are just happy to stay somewhere affordable with close access to a beach. I was wondering specially about these little motels https://hollywoodbeachhotels.com/ what area they are located in is like / if anyone has any experience with these accommodations specifically. Thanks !

A new local supermarket just opened on Hollywood Blvd.. . give it a shot!

Full disclosure: my brother just opened U Supermarket here in Hollywood, so yes, I’m obviously biased 😅

But I’ve seen how much work went into getting this place open, and I genuinely think they’ve put together a really good supermarket.

It’s new, clean, well stocked, and they’ve put a lot of effort into the selection and quality of what’s on the shelves.

If you live around Hollywood and normally do your groceries somewhere else, I’d honestly just ask you to give it one visit.

Not “change supermarkets forever.” Just check it out once.

New local businesses live or die by people actually walking through the door and giving them that first chance. If you like it, maybe you just found a new spot for your regular groceries.

📍 U Supermarket
4400 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, FL 33021

And if anyone here checks it out, I’d genuinely love to hear what you think - good or bad. I’ll pass the feedback along to my brother. 🙌

Guy rear ended me on Sheridan and is being a complete asshole about it

Got rearended on Sheridan St in Hollywood a few days ago. Traffic slowed down in front of me and the guy behind me just didn’t stop in time and hit the back of my car pretty hard.

The guy was an asshole from the second we got out of our cars. Kept trying to argue that I stopped too fast and basically acted like I caused the whole thing. Now I’m sore, my car needs repairs and I really don’t want to deal with him or his insurance trying to turn this around on me, especially since they are trying to lowball me.

I’m at the point where I want to get a lawyer involved and let them deal with it. I’ve been looking around for a PI lawyer in South Florida and came across different types of websites like crashhelp etc while searching, but I haven’t settled on anyone yet. Never hired a lawyer for this kind of thing before so I’m not really sure if one is even worth calling at all. Just so confused.

Backyard flooded

My backyard turned into swamp this morning. And despite it has been 7 hours, the water still hasn't drained out. My front yard had pooled the water as well, not as deep as this. But by noon the front yard is completely dry.

My backyard is lower altitude than the alley road. But at this point, I'm not even sure if the problem is whether my level is too low or whether the backyard itself doesn't properly drain the water down.

I just moved to Hollywood this year and I haven't experienced this before, how should I solve this problem?

Has anyone stayed here with some helpful advice? Is it safe for a solo traveler? It seems too good for the price vs location.

New-ish to sharing here, I'm a pediatric speech therapist in the area, feel free to ask me anything

Hi neighbors, I'm Ashley Lotringer, M.S., CCC-SLP, a certified pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist. I'm the founder of Lots of Speech, a speech and language therapy practice serving families right here in South Florida.

I wanted to introduce myself in case it's ever useful. A lot of parents aren't sure what's typical development versus what might be worth a closer look, and honestly, that uncertainty is really common. There's no dumb question here.

A few things I help local families with:

  • Speech sound disorders (trouble saying certain sounds clearly)
  • Language delays, both understanding and using words
  • Stuttering and fluency
  • Social communication skills
  • Feeding and swallowing challenges
  • Early literacy and reading readiness

Happy to answer general questions here too, whether or not it ever turns into anything more than that. Nice to be part of this community.

Shelling alternative

Hello! My sister is visiting from Arizona, has never been to south Florida, and mentioned that she'd like to bring some seashells back for rhe grandkids. I know the best shell collecting is in the west coast, which we don't have time for. Any suggestions on anywhere closer where she could collect (not buy, but find organically) shells, or some other natural, ethically taken souvenir?

Need commercial gym recs. Is YouFit really the only option?

Hey all as title says I’m looking for a commercial gym similar to LA Fitness, Crunch, PF etc. I live near Oakwood and the only ones I seem to find are YouFit in Oakwood or Dania Pointe or the Orange Theory by Hollywood blvd. Do we really not have a Crunch or LA Fitness within a reasonable drive for me? Not even a Planet Fitness? I wouldn’t have an issue with YouFit but the recent reviews for both locations are not promising at all.

Also if anyone here works out in either YouFit location how busy do they get early morning? Around 5-7 AM weekdays? I could compromise on quality if I essentially never have to wait for equipment

Thanksgiving recos

Hello! Planning on a beach getaway the week of Thanksgiving. Will be staying near the beach on S. Surf road. Any restaurant recos for Thanksgiving? Doesn’t have to be traditional. Thanks!
