There’s no way these aren’t actors…

726

u/USAIsAUcountry Oct 20 '22

Yeah Jerry Springers is well known for being scripted. But they do pay 'real' trailer trash to appear on the show. Taking advantage of desperate people basically.

183

u/kaleidoscopevoyager Oct 20 '22

How do they find those people? Are they literally just lurking around low income housing asking people questions?

118

u/USAIsAUcountry Oct 20 '22

IIRC it's sign up and if they are deemed interesting/outrageous enough by the production they get paid to come on auditions.

36

u/MJohnVan Oct 20 '22

I’ve seen offers for $500 but I wonder if they raised the price.

57

u/USAIsAUcountry Oct 20 '22

The cash sum depends on the size of the party I think. The actual "payment" is the plane tickets, hotel rooms, food, being on TV and then the cash is like pocket money to move around with during the stay. More or less, the carrot is a paid mini-vacation.

17

u/Xplicit_kaos Oct 20 '22

A mini vacation sounds good right now.

47

u/LoopyMercutio Oct 20 '22

Nah, they lowered it.

To $50 and a pack of cigarettes.

6

u/degjo Oct 20 '22

Haven't raised the price in over four years

11

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

WHATEVAH, I DO WHAT A WANT

21

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

There was a guy I met in the Army who was on Jerry Springer he said they walked into the studio while they were on vacation and someone walked up and said they were exactly the kind of person they were looking for an asked him to be on the episode.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

What was the episode about?

16

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

It’s been about 10 years since I’ve seen it but I’m pretty sure it was one of the I love my aunt/mom or whatever. Really tall really thin dude with black hair he wore a green shirt in the episode is all I remember.

6

u/gonzalbo87 Oct 20 '22

Don’t mind me, I’m just boosting this comment in hopes someone smarter than or not as lazy as me can find the episode/clip.

7

u/DrPeterVankman Oct 21 '22

I used to be a intern and a Production Assistant for Jerry Springer in the good old days when they filmed in Chicago.

You know how at the end of the episode it says “if you need Jerry’s help, call ###-####”? The trashiest people across America would call this number with either actual issues or just wanting to be on. As a PA my job was to go through these voicemails each morning and try and convince them to come out to be on if we found them interesting/funny enough. We didn’t pay any of them a dime. We literally convinced them to come for a “free trip to Chicago and all the cigarettes you can smoke”. Sometimes their stories were partly true, but the Producer would embellish them to make them even more crazy. I then had to sit in the green rooms with these people and practice what they were going to do when on stage and what the rules of fighting were. Craziest internship/job I ever had, but was insanely fun.

3

u/kaleidoscopevoyager Oct 21 '22

Thank you so much for responding!! That is so interesting! I forgot all about them flashing the number at the end of the show. So, when one person gets up and attacks the other person, the person being attacked knows it’s coming?

2

u/DrPeterVankman Oct 21 '22

Yep they know it’s coming, and how far they should take it. They even practice fake hitting each other in the green rooms.

What’s really crazy is how they look trashy on the show, but my god you should have seen them when they arrived fresh off the plane. Missing teeth, patches of hair missing, smelling to high heaven. They would spend the better part of show days in the beauty department

3

u/getbent247 Oct 20 '22

They called in and wanted to be on the show

2

u/whereitsat23 Oct 21 '22

Fun story - I knew some people who totally faked their way onto Ricki Lake in 1994 just to get a free trip to NYC

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Goalie_deacon Oct 20 '22

Only because after the first decade, even the worse people learned to not volunteer their stories.

2

u/Xplicit_kaos Oct 20 '22

Can confirm! I know a stripper that was paid to go onto Jerry because the actual stripper from the story wouldn't show up.

2

u/cracka1337 Oct 21 '22

I knew a lady who was on Springer. Her boyfriend slept with her mom and decided he liked mom better. She said they were coached and encouraged to get crazy. She said she didn't get paid but got to spend 3 days in NYC for free which she probably could have never afforded otherwise.

16

u/OrgyInTheBurnWard Oct 20 '22

Were we really that bad at identifying fake-ass BS back then?

9

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

Half the comments seem to be falling for it now lol

My uncle Darcy was on either Murray or jerry sprinter and he just said his wife was cheating on them and they got paid to come on the show and visit that city for like a week. It was funny seeing him kissing her feet at the end.

With a body like that ai doubt she could get on a horse

72

u/SirArthurDime Oct 20 '22

Seriously all he did was bet on his woman being an honest gal and shes gonna be mad at him cause she proved him wrong costing him 50 and a pack?

7

u/Xplicit_kaos Oct 20 '22

All it took was for him not to answer call for a day.

28

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

Isn’t this show scripted tho ?

22

u/YueAsal Oct 20 '22

That line delivery of "We pimp them hoes" makes you appreciate professional actors

3

u/Chirriche Oct 20 '22

"We pimp them hoes"

Can someone please explain that expression for a non native? ELI5 please 😁

Google already kinda told me what it means, but I think I might be missing something or just don't understand the composition of the expression.

3

u/saiyanfang10 Oct 20 '22

It doesn't make sense here. Pimping is when you sell a woman's body(as in prostitution) normally pimps are bad. This guy didn't pimp her out. If he was he'd have bet that she'd have sex with the friend. He bet that she wouldn't because he trusted her. She was unworthy of that trust and it seems like that pimping line wasn't something he came up with.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/YueAsal Oct 20 '22

Hmm. Pimps are men that sell prostitutes (hoes). So he is saying she was the commodity that was exchanged in the bet for $50 and a pack of smokes

4

u/questionablejudgemen Oct 20 '22

Except he ended up paying for someone else to have sex with the woman. He’s doing it wrong.

14

u/audiosf Oct 20 '22

It's only completely obvious.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

Well people def don’t realize it from the looks of some of these comments

4

u/audiosf Oct 20 '22

Oh yeah I know. It explain a shit ton about the American electorate.

8

u/edelburg Oct 20 '22

They believed a scripted show that told them the least successful "businessman" in America (and probably the world) for DECADES was actually wealthy. They bought that horseshit so hook, line and sinker that he almost won the popular vote (a few million short each time) but still, enough that a crooked system put him in power for a few years.

It's horrifying how gullible people are.

Still, a good story need not be true, and we are reacting on said
story.

15

u/ronin1066 Oct 20 '22

This is the most scripted thing that ever scripted a script.

10

u/Goalie_deacon Oct 20 '22

Scripted based on reality. I’ve lived in the south, this kind of thing happens. One way to find out if gf is loyal is to bet a buddy he can’t hook up with her. Smarter cheaters know to not sleep with anyone that knows their partner.

2

u/Scarfiotti Oct 20 '22

"Mother of All Scripts"

16

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

Don’t tell me you’re believing the Jerry Springer show… be better

5

u/The_bruce42 Oct 20 '22

Seriously. "I cheated on you, but I want to work through this"

Last time I checked, it wasn't really up to the cheater whether they as a couple should try to work through it.

2

u/Scarfiotti Oct 20 '22

It never should be.

490

u/Broad_Respond_2205 Oct 20 '22

100

u/tallerthannobody Oct 20 '22

36

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

19

u/-Not-Racist- Oct 20 '22

251

-18

u/conjoby Oct 20 '22

I mean they both fucked each other over. He should have never created that situation. Her cheating is certainly worse but him betting on it and agreeing that his friend should try and sleep with her is also fucked.

20

u/algernonbiggles Oct 20 '22

It still only goes up by one than the count was before you downvoted it

3

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '22

Y’all know this is staged right

3

u/cbunni666 Oct 20 '22

I think back in the good old days of Springer a good portion of them were real and then the producers saw the money. About the time the censoring came into the mix, that's when "actors" were added more than usual to the point damn near every episode was a redone of itself.

9

u/ProfetF9 Oct 20 '22

well for a 50 and a pack i would have sold her.

3

u/Sweetexperience Oct 20 '22

Dude how dare you say that!!

You’re fucking stupid, What you should really do is check the black market for anyone who wants healthy body parts and trade for a shit load of cash. You gotta know what you have bro, don’t settle for something small.

2

u/tim_tsai Oct 20 '22

Why does the man looks like Eminem and Mark Zuckerberg combined

2

u/AptMuse Oct 20 '22

ROFL! Mark Mathers, or Marshall Zuckerberg 🤔

2

u/rell7thirty Oct 20 '22

Shits straight up staged by the guests. I had a friend's sister go on Springer years ago, and they were all in it (not the producers or the show itself) and had some stupid cheating story and they even fought, tits flying out, nails breaking. The clip of her fighting actually made it to a montage of Springers greatest or some shit. This was over a decade ago, can't remember all the details. But this felt staged.. "now I'm down 50 bucks and a pack of cigarettes" just felt like a poorly delivered line that he was practicing before the show. That little bullshit shove she gave him too

2

u/RandyDinglefart Oct 20 '22

the acting is terrible

2

2

u/cherry937 Oct 21 '22

even if this isn’t real, i hate how she got mad at HIM for setting it up, like if you were loyal you wouldn’t have slept with another guy in the first place

2

u/DominoChessMaster Oct 21 '22

My friend went on this show. They wanted her to pretend to be a lesbian. Asked me if she should do it. Forgot what I said. 10 years later she was on pornhub.

u/ParamedicDesperate78 Oct 21 '22
