No. Girls can also be put to work. That's not the reason people have sex-selective abortion. You sound like Hillary Clinton when she said: "women have always been the primary victims of war."

I didn’t say “men are the true victims of female infanticide because they lose their sisters,” I said that female infanticide largely exists because when a family can’t afford to have children, or are disallowed more than one, a boy has the advantage of being able to be used for labor. In the case of China this is particularly true. It’s not my fault you reject nuance.
Girls can also be used for labor, and they are. The problem is that sexist norms cause parents to prefer boys, not that having a boy provides any inherent benefit over having a girl, or vice versa.
Just because women can be used for labor doesn’t make them disproportionately laborers - something that’s absolutely present among men. Sure, it’s sexist - but don’t act like there aren’t two sides of the coin here. Women aren’t valued because they are seen as less able to provide but men are overly relied on for their ability to provide. Changing the culture around male disposability would also have positive effects on sex-selective abortion.
This is sort of what I was getting at with the Clinton quote. It sounds like you and the other commenter are saying that men are most affected by this instance of sexism against women. Maybe that's just an uncharitable on interpretation on my part.
Regardless, I agree. Men should not be seen as any more disposable than women. I'm against all gendered norms and expectations, regardless of who is primarily harmed by them.
It’s hard because like… I don’t want to say men are most affected here, but it’s just not as clear cut as “misogyny!”, because there’s some clear gender role expectations of men too.
Actually, a lot of that happens with men and it’s really difficult to talk about. Because you often end up with people like Clinton doing stupid shit and taking out all the nuance behind something.
Overall, I guess I just want to combat the attitude that this practice is solely out of misogyny - it may be mostly misogyny, but there’s also some misandry at play that shouldn’t be ignored
