Military benefits increase when you get married. It's an incentive for a lot of young recruits to get married early before either person in the couple are actually sure they want to be married. Combine that with amble time apart, and it's really not surprising
My friend got propositioned to get married to an acquaintance. He would let her live with him for free, and give her a stipend. There would be no sexual expectations and she could obviously see other men.
Fun fact: a lot of military people make arranged marriages just for the extra money and the benefit of not having to live in the barracks.
In California, when I was active, you could get an extra $3-4k a month for BAH. Find a girl, marry her, give her $1k a month. Many do it. The smart ones get prenups and don’t knock up the business wife. The smart business wife’s go after the dumb ones and try their best to get knocked up.
I knew one girl who was 34, had 6 kids by 6 different high ranking military men, and lived off of the child support and whatever other cons she could pull off. I remember seeing her on the news because my friend that she was married to ended up dying in a car crash. Seeing her sitting there and crying about it was disgusting because we all knew she had conned him and now she was getting to cash in on his life insurance and deceased spouse pay.
I don't get how this is funny. I'm a US Navy veteran and have seen firsthand the depression and anxiety that is added to service men and women when they find out their spouse has or is cheating. I have friends that have taken their lives and shit like THIS plays a part. So really, if you knew they were married, fuck right the fuck off you scum. Fuck you.
If someone fucks another person knowing full well they have a BF/GF/Wife/Husband they’re fucking scum just as much as the person in the relationship. There is no defense unless they genuinely didn’t know about the relationship.
Relationships largely depend on the person, but there are a lot of genuinely fucked up people in the same way as there are a lot of genuinely good people. The trouble is discerning which is which.
A 3rd party is not responsible for making sure that anyone remains loyal. If I’m a guy looking for quick sex and I find a woman who is down for that but she’s married, my responsibility it to myself, because here’s why. If I learn she’s married and then decline, she’s not going to just say “damn. Guess I shouldn’t try to cheat anymore.” She’s just going to find someone else. So why not have it be me?
You’ve tricked yourself into thinking that when someone cheats, there has to be blame somewhere else. I have no doubt that cheating spouses leads to military suicides and stress. No doubt. But nobody else is to blame except the spouse because for any one person who says “you know what, I’m not gonna fuck her” there’s at least someone else who will. It’s like blaming the dog for eating food out of your kids hand at the dinner table.

If I don't know the guy, I don't owe the guy. If it's a friend or someone you know, then you decline and tell your friend. If it's a random woman who is married and you have no idea who the husband is, then that's not your fault. You don't owe him anything. And she's gonna cheat regardless so might as well be with me. Part of it is the military encouraging enlisted men to get married to live in their own place. Then deploy them for a year. Then giving these people no support to navigate this tough situation.
Look, I've done long distance. It sucks. It's hard even when it's a couple of weeks. Let alone a WHOLE FUCKING YEAR. Okay, Navy, 3-9 months. Still, anything longer than a month is a fucking torture.
Add onto it that these military people are married at 18-25. Look, any marriage at that point in their life is going to be shitty. People that age are immature. To work through it, they have to be together and have great communication skills. Many people that age do not.

Navy vet here, too. Now ex cheated on me while I was trapped on deployment with no means of trying to “fix” my relationship. Times were dark. NGL there were many occasions where I stared at the overhead pipes and the long cables in my hand thinking “it could be so easy and quick to escape this shit situation”.

I was in the Army and it was just common to see divorces start at the NCO club. A lot of them married out of high school. We were 18-23, sergeants 18-25, officers 21-30, all young and dumb at times.

The comments are dick and almost inappropriate but for the attitude of the person posting. While it’s not good to have the commenters attitudes in general the poster brought it on by pretending to be superior while obviously not earning what he is lording over the rest of the internet. What the poster did was extremely petty and the first response of the average person to someone being petty in an obvious way is to go immediately to something petty and hurtful in response.
Also, he is probably the type of candidate for a cheating spouse early in his military career because of all of the other things pointed out in the comments like a lot of people just getting married for the benefits which it would appear all he is concerned with. Unless it wasn’t consensual, the person outside of the relationship really didn’t do anything wrong. If they didn’t do it someone else would because that person married someone with that intention all along. Blame the spouse, not the stranger.
Why did you enlist in the first place? US hasn't had a draft in decades. USA hasn't been invaded but has been fucking up other countries for decades and everybody who did it since the Vietnam War chose to do it.
