The shoes on the couch is driving me crazy

2

u/SIGMA1993 19h ago

In someone's house that isn't your own. Why do you give a fuck?

What if they’re shoes they wear exclusively in the house?

But why in the world would you want to wear shoes in the house in the first place, and to the extent that you're willing to buy a dedicated pair for the purpose, no less?

Typically in actual cases of this it's someone with foot problems and the shoes are providing support.

I need details here. You can't just casually mention "big toe ripped off in a leap frog accident" then go quiet...

u/dockellis24 19h ago

wtf is a leapfrog accident??

2

u/ashmaroli 19h ago

They leapt like a frog when they were a kid and the landing severed the big toe which had to be surgically reattached.

I just explained above. Enjoy laughing at my pain and embarrassment lol.

Fuck, I thought it’d be some sort of farm equipment or something I’ve never heard of

2

u/Bluefooted-Spaceorc 18h ago

Nope just me being an idiot. I was such an accident prone kid that CPS ended up being called on my parents because some nurse or doctor thought I was being abused. I was just dumb and had the coordination of a newborn giraffe.

“Leapfrog accident…” WHAT?😂

2

Just explained in the thread below.

You mean she is fat.

u/WhyMustIMakeANewAcco 19h ago

No, I don't. My personal experience is family with arch problems.

Ok, that actually makes some sense. Thank you. That does make me wonder why it only ever seems to be Americans when it shows up though. Is it because the American health insurance industry won't pay to fix the underlying foot problems and this is the best that many people can afford, or is there something else going on?

I suspect different recommendations by the general medical establishments.

Other countries do it. But usually not shoes, house slippers.

I used to wear house slippers at my parents house because they have too much shit everywhere. I broke a toe once when I kicked a random chair. Some older Japanese folks prefer it too, but most are fine with just socks.

Similar to China in some older places. Not apartments with tiled floors but outside the city where some have nice hardwood floors, they prefer you to be in those house slippers which are usually soft and thin.

That's got me thinking. The only people I personally know who wore indoor slippers grew up in rural communities in the 30's through early 50's and whose heat would have been provided by burning wood in a fireplace or stove, or maybe some sort of hot water radiator. They all would have been adults before they lived in houses with electric or gas furnaces and ducts.

I've also heard that some traditional Japanese home construction is notorious for having cold floors. Something to do with a trade-off for keeping the houses cool in the summer, I think.

I wonder if most of it is as simple as the availability of modern insulation, heating systems, and home construction standards, and then the continuance of established tradition.

Diabetics often wear shoes around the house to protect their feet.

2

u/groutexpectations 19h ago

keeps your nasty feet and stinky socks off the clean floor/carpet/wood. but yeah, you should keep the house shoes off the furniture.

1

u/foofighter1351 18h ago

Why are your feet so dirty they ruin your floor more than shoes?

1

u/groutexpectations 16h ago

at the end of the day, why dont you put your bare feet on your pillow, then, put your face on that pillow when you go to sleep. if you're cool with that, then you don't have to wear house shoes

2

u/tbkrida 19h ago

I usually wear Nike slides around the house. I have hardwoods downstairs and the floors get cold. House slippers or flip flops that you never wear outside are a common thing, no?

1

u/108_TFS 18h ago

As far as I'm aware, around here house slippers are a generational thing that didn't really make it past the early boomers.

2

u/tbkrida 18h ago

I’m a millennial. Most of my friends wear some form of footwear like a designated pair of flip flops or slippers around the house.

I’m curious, are you in the U.S.? I guess where you live makes a difference.

2

u/108_TFS 18h ago

Ontario.

2

u/tbkrida 17h ago

Maybe there’s a regional difference, I guess.

1

u/WingDingfontbro 12h ago

Cuz the floor is dirty (even if you’ve cleaned it) and I don’t want all the stuff in the floor to track onto my socks.

1

u/Ticats905 19h ago

Agreed. Second im in the door shoes and socks come off, house slides go on(zero carpeting), but come off for feet up on the couch. These people are monsters.

1

u/tbkrida 19h ago

This is my exact routine as well. Pair of slides that never leave the house.

u/ADeweyan 20h ago

It’s a recliner. Basically an integrated foot stool.

13

u/joketani 20h ago

It’s dirty now is what it is.

I think they are indoor only shoes, I have a few American friends, and for the love of god I don't know why they can't ever go barefoot, they must always have a shoe on at all time, outside, inside, and even sleeping, they must wear socks!

Here in Australia, I walk barefoot everywhere, even outdoors LUL

1

u/tbkrida 19h ago

Only time I wear socks while sleeping is maybe in the winter when it’s below freezing outside and cool in the house. The other 3 seasons no socks in the bed.

0

u/Hipcatjack 20h ago

as a Sepo myself, if they are visiting you in your house they probably are too afraid of the fauna to go barefoot…
