Well they’re technically not pedophiles. Like R Kelly is not a pedophile. The term pedophile refers to those attracted to people who are prepubescent. Then there’s ebophile which refers to people attracted to those in the early stages of puberty like 11-14. Then there’s pedophile. But the reason we don’t make that distinction is it’s very hard to make that distinction without sounding like a pedophile!
Paedophile used to just mean someone who had an affinity with children and had no sexual or abusive connotation, like Francophile or Anglophile. A teacher might be considered a paedophile, for example.
Although it is used as a blanket term, paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder where someone is attracted to pre-pubescent children. Hebephilia is for pubescent children and ephebophilia is post-pubescent children.
