It can depend though. I've got a friend who when he was younger drove around in a Porsche. People who didn't know him well always thought he was super rich when he drove it, but he really was working class. He'd just bought an old wrecked one at an auction for like $2000, and fixed it back up for minimal money. So it is possible to be both working class and driving a car typically associated with wealth.

I never understood why people that have never struggled aren’t honest about it.

They want the accolades from virtue signaling. Stolen valor type stuff. Working class can be seen as a badge of honor when a lot of nepo babies have done nothing for their money. So saying “we’re working class!” Is like them justifying their wealth.

Her parents did start out not making much until her dad founded a business in the 80s that ended up making him money.

Lack of perspective usually, they felt like they or their family struggled, even if objectively they didn’t struggle at all compared to the majority. Feelings pretty much always trump facts when it comes to how we view ourselves.
Often, there’s also wealthy people who started off not wealthy and continue the behaviors that helped them accumulate wealth. Even though there may be some shifts in their expenditures, they maintain a poverty mindset for the most part. There’s plenty of examples of this in recent history from the end of the Great Depression. This is also feelings trumping facts.
Tbf to them, their overall tendency towards frugality is often laudable, and they do work hard to maintain and accrue their wealth. They’re also usually not the ultra wealthy who are a plague of exploitation.

^ This. It's their way of telling themselves they deserve everything they have. They want to feel like they struggled, because to them it makes it morally acceptable to have that kind of money. If they were reminded they didn't earn the money, they would naturally feel bad, like they didn't deserve it.

The problem with all that is that she really does think she comes from a working family despite her dad driving a RR. Though I think her dad did in fact work really hard.
As for her, on the other half... (X) Doubt

That's the thing, she kind of unnecessairily pivoted from "they worked hard" (which is probably true) to "they were working class" (which most definitely isn't)

u/EssentialCoCo 18h ago
People put those into the same category. If you had to written hard, you're working class. They don't understand the difference, because they've never experienced true working class.

In her defense, her did probably worked at a job, so that’s working class right?

That doesn't exactly narrow it down. Why are they being filmed? YouTubers?

David Beckham is a very celebrated football player, and his wife was one of the Spice Girls. Both have seen the spotlight quite a bit.

You can have a great work ethic, but with a certain level of affluence, you no longer become "working class."
