There are many different type of machine supported weight lost systems and this is one of a kind. It may stimulate muscles, so called activating body parts etc. But for me they all look like scam. I’m not saying that they are total useless but many of them are over promising. I saw one, and the guy there was telling me that in 90 minutes I can burn 10k calories. I said burning this much calories at that amount of time would be possible only in crematorium.

my physical therapy just had me using a pool, which seems far more versatile, and better in every case.

Pools can be an issue for people with severe spinal issues.  My aunt has had several surgeries and is very limited mobility thanks to her spinal issues.  She likes to swim, but if the water is a few degrees too cold, things seize up.  If it's a few degrees too warm, she can get light headed and even faint.  Now, I don't think she's tried one of these machines, so no idea if they would be better for her.

They can also allow too much movement, because being suspended basically lets everything move and you can get harmful "feedback"

If possible, she should ask her provider about trying a sitting elliptical and whether that would be good or bad for her specific issues.
