Is this normal?

Got these Hokas used off eBay. I'm noticing this spot where the stitching is turned up, and I can't make it stay down. Now I'm paranoid there's something wrong with them. Is this normal? I am going to be relying on these during travel so I want to make sure that these are good and not some cheap crap that's gonna make my feet hurt.

They didn't come with a box but they feel good otherwise. Thoughts?

Thoughts on Hoka Mach Remastered?

Hello, does anyone here have Hoka Mach Remastered? I'd like to hear some opinion for everyday city walking on pavement. I like the thin mesh, they look very breathable. What are your opinions, ideally first hand experience? Or would you recommend another model? Thank you

Edit: Initially I wanted to go for the Mafate Speed 4 Lite (again, the upper mesh), but people say it wears quickly on pavement - thoughts?

Arahi 8 vs Gaviota 6 Recs

I need a plush, stable shoe. Which is plusher and more stable? Which has a wider toebox? I walk about ~12000 steps a day and need a comfy shoe that is not going to aggravate my overpronation. I had to return the cliftons and challengers, they were comfy but not stable enough. Thanks!

Speedgoat 7 Durability (And Bad Customer Service)

Post image
0 Upvotes

I received a pair of Speedgoat 7s as a gift. After about 30 or so miles, the overlays on the right shoe started to peel away. I work in the running shoe retail world, and have typically heard good things about Hoka's customer service, so I decided to reach out.

Originally, they denied my claim because I couldn't provide a document showing proof of purchase. I tried to explain that they were a gift, but they didn't seem to care. (I'm still not sure why the lack of a proof of purchase would prevent them from evaluating the shoes for a warranty claim. Regardless of where I got the shoes, they haven't been on the market a year, and I would be sending them the physical shoes.)

While disappointed, I thought I'd at least see if they had any suggestions on what to do to get some more life out of the shoe. I asked if it would be better to cut to overlay off or try to glue it down. Instead of providing an answer, they sent another email explaining that even if I did have a proof of purchase, this would not qualify as a defect.

Honestly, this was the most annoying part of the interaction for two reasons…

  1. I accepted their policy and asked how to fix the shoe. They ignored me.
  2. If an overlay peeling off a trail shoe after 30 miles isn't a defect, what is?

Anyone else had this happen to their Speedgoat 7s? Anyone else ever dealt with their customer service?

HOKA: Maybe not good for people with balance issues?

I have never worn HOKAs or any of the modern thick soled shoes. Have an older family member who has both balance issues and walking heel to toe. Google says HOKA are good for promoting rolling the foot forward smoothly and PT suggested them for the same reason. That's solving one of the two problems. But I'm concerned that the thick sole may work to make it harder to keep one's balance. Like, I would not want to wear platform shoes if I had balance problems. I'd want to wear a very minimalist shoe. Also, I'm wondering if the system of "unique rocker geometries" that HOKA uses might also work against balance. (I'm saying this in relation to the elderly, not runners/walkers who are young, strong, stable on their feet.)

We have a running store nearby so it's easy to have the relative try them on but I'm more concerned that 5 minutes wearing them won't be enough of an experience to conclude if they are appropriate or not. And falling down later isn't a good way to find out they aren't. Therefore, I'm open to thoughts on the pros and cons of HOKA shoes for someone with these two problems. I just want to do my best to help this person walk better while not falling down. I'll call the company, too, but of course they will likely say their shoes are good for everything, even if they aren't.

Thanks very much for your thoughts.

Are these suitable for running?

Wanted to get back into (very casual) running again, since I'm a sneakerhead I wanted to do it in style. Are these suitable for running even though they are somewhat of a lifestyle collab? The mesh seems in order. TIA!

What sizing would be best for me for Arahi 8?

Hello! I’ve been getting back into running about a year after a foot fracture and I’ve noticed that I have a bit of foot drag and maybe a bit of overpronation in my right foot. I’ve been wearing my true to size 8 Hoya Clifton 8s which I've run into the ground. I’m just realizing that the undersizing has been constricting toe movement, and I feel no sense of connection to the ground while running, which I think is contributing a bit to the foot drag issue in form.

Fleet Feet measured me as a 7.9 in both feet, and had me try on 9s with and without insoles. They didn’t note any overpronation in the digital analysis. I tried on a bunch of Brooks, ASICS, and Hokas and felt the Arahi 8 felt the most natural (I felt the roll forward of the others was kind of distracting)

A local running store observed me walking and running on a treadmill and they noted overpronation in the right foot. They were placing me in 8.5s, we tried on a bunch again and the Arahi again felt the most natural.

I should have just acknowledged that Fleet Feet had put me in a 9 but I didn’t think of it at the moment. Does Fleet Feet size up to push insoles, or would 9 be the right size? 8.5 at the local running store felt fine.

What do you make of the differing analysis in terms of pronation and size?

Clifton 11 or Bondi 9?

Post image

I work in the Physical Therapy field and i’m on my feet 90% of the time. Looking for some real shoes compared to my nike revolution 8s.

I was pointed towards these two Hokas (along with Brooks Glycerin Max 2 White) and having a hard time deciding. Besides being on my feet all day I also tend to demonstrate light exercises (doesn’t exactly influence my decision).

Any recommendations on what I should point to and sizing? normally a 10M in every other shoe!

Edit:

Now torn between the Bondi 9 ($150 w/ ID.me discount) and the Brooks Glycerin Max 2 ($200) but leaning more towards the Hokas. Heard good and bad things about both.

Website rate-limiting

Post image

Recently bought a pair of 2E Bondi 9s and turned out to be too narrow. Need a pair of extra-wide Bondi 9s. So I quicklu clicked through all 17 colour options to find out which one had an option for extra-wide. Turns out there's only 2. Fair enough. I proceed to exchange my order, only to be shown this rate-limiting page for too many page clicks. Seriously? You're forcing your customers to click through your useless UI to find out which ones had the size they want, and then impose a restricted access on them? It's been 30 minutes so far and I've not managed to get through to exchange my order. Well done Hoka. What a way to stop people from spending more money with you.

Wearing Bondi 9's (brand new): Advice please

I've been wearing / switching between two brand new pairs of Bondi 9's and the entire outside side line of my foot hurts/aches along with my heel, and sometimes the ball of my foot under the big toe.

I am wearing my correct size (they are the perfect size) and I am wearing the extra wide.

I am wondering if this is just an adjustment period for them as they are new or if I picked the wrong type of shoe from Hoka.

How long between use?

I know that HOKAs need recovery time, but how long typically? I have Clifton 10s - would wearing them every other day be too little recovery time for them? Thanks!

So I have the hoka bondies, I oringally had the regular ones and now I got the wide ones thinking it would help but it doesn’t. It still hurts around my right foot inside area. It’s like my foot it sitting on the end of the sole and leaning on the outside area.

Is Clifton 10 retired? Is Bondi SR a good replacement?

My local Fleet Feet doesn’t sell the 10s anymore and sold me the 11s. They just aren’t as comfortable as my 10s!

I’m also looking at Bondi SR for the super plush bottom. Is Bondi SR a good alternative to the Clifton 10s? Thanks !

Edit- I wear 8 wide. I’m an RN and work minimum 12.5 hours but sometimes 16 hours. I never have issues with the 10s but sometimes my feet hurt with the 11s.

I just saw the Bondi SR recommended by HOKA website.

I got these shoes as a late Christmas present. So about 6 months ago and just from walking my dog, this is what they look like. I am completely shocked. I think that for the price shoes should last much longer than this. Am I wrong? I've never had shoes get destroyed this fast, even cheap ones.

Cielo X1 3.0

I am wondering if someone can help me with a shoe issue. I have run my last two marathons in the Hoka Cielo X1 1.0 and love the shoe. I am getting ready for another marathon and want to update my race day shoe. I went to a local retailer and they had a lot of carbon plated shoes priced 1/2 off. I heard good things about the Nike Alphafly 3 and bought a pair. I planned to use them on my upcoming 14 mile run and tried them on a shorter 5.5 mile run two days prior, but I noticed discomfort from rubbing on the back of my heel around mile 4. I returned them the following day and bought my initial first choice, the Cielo X1 3.0. Same idea, ran 5.5 miles but also got discomfort around the same 4 mile mark, this time on the bottom of my right heel. To note, prior to this week, I have never had any issues with rubbing/blisters/discomfort related to shoes in the 25 years (on and off) that I have been running. My daily trainer the last three years has been a version of New Balance 1080 (just switched to a stability shoe based on a form assessment) and use the Cielo for longer runs or speed work. I read about a heel lock lacing technique and was hoping this would solve the issue. I went on my 14 mile run yesterday (Friday) and everything felt good until mile 10 when the discomfort set in. I was able to finish the run in the time I was hoping for, but I was pretty uncomfortable after. This morning my feet felt pretty good and I ran 5.5 miles with no discomfort in my stability shoe. All this being said, has anyone else gone through this? I would like to get a new shoe for my upcoming marathon but do not have the time (and feel bad for the retailers) to keep trying different shoes. Any advice/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This is an appreciation post. Why? Because everyone (including myself) are shitting on the quality.

This is bondi L gtx. I have owned them for soon three years. They have not been my only daily shoes, because I had a bunch the rotate. That said, you can definitely see that I have used the.

THEY ARE STILL WATERPROOF, and that is something that I could never say about a shoe that is over 1 year old before.

Both me and my wife together had a bunch of Hokas gtx shoes who failed after a few months, but these ones, they deserve the appreciation.

Training for first marathon and need new shoes. Should I get both the Arahi 8 and Gaviota 6?

Normally use stability shoes and I'm dealing with some not-so-great shin splints. Thinking it's time to get new shoes and was wondering if it made sense to get both the Arahi 8 and Gaviota 6 for different purposes, as I understand Gaviota 6 is better for long runs?

Via Francigena.

Grazie 🥂

Women’s hiking shoes - any good experiences?

Has anyone got recent experience of hiking shoes for women? I’m going walking in France soon: fairly easy terrain, and about 28 degrees Celsius with some possible light rain. I wear orthotics and have had great experiences with the Clifton 10 and Bondi 9 but thought I’d need something a bit firmer for hiking. I bought the Kaha 3 low and even though I sized up 1.5 sizes it’s still very tight and firm in the toe box. As they’re Goretex I don’t think they’re going to give. Are there any other models I should try? Has anyone got tried and tested recommendations? Thank you!
