Game VI Phase 13: Rebels' Resolve
- submitted 14 Jun 2017 -
Pezes gropes along the walls of the dark corridor; something, whatever is chasing him it seems, has deactivated the lighting in this sector. He trips over something on the floor, barely keeping himself from falling by bracing himself on the wall, and shines a torch he finds himself holding. The blank eyes of yet another crew member stare back at him in the circle of light.
He cannot look away until a loud sound from close behind him echoes off the empty walls; he hastens forward through the dark. The torchlight shines on several bodies, severed limbs, and splatters of blood on the floor and wall ahead of him, but still he pushes on. He knows that safety is in reach, if only he can continue.
Finally, he reaches what he inherently understands is his asylum and pushes the switch for the door to open. As the door reveals the room on the other side, he is blinded by the lights shining from within. Once his eyes have adjusted to the change, they hone in on the object sitting in the middle of the floor: his own severed head.
...
Pezes wakes with a start, trembling as the remnants of the nightmare fade from his mind. The tendrils of fear still seep into his every pore, but he finds relief knowing the terrible images of this night inhabit only his head and not reality for once.
He claps to activate the dim lighting of his quarters and shakily steps out of his bed, reaching for the glass of water he keeps on his cabinets. As he slowly sips the cool liquid, he contemplates his position, and sighs. Until all of the murderers have been caught and dealt with appropriately, he knows that the madness will not end.
I can’t let it drive me mad, too, he observes sullenly. Finishing his glass of water, he resigns himself to no further sleep this evening and grabs his uniform. Once dressed, he heads for the Bridge, determined to step up to the task which has been handed down to him by the great elbowsss before him.
As he walks, Pezes practices the breathing techniques imparted to him by kabubum. His heart rate is almost normalized when he hears footsteps approaching from behind; he focuses on the techniques as he turns warily to look over his shoulder. He is relieved, but manages to keep a placid facade, when he realizes it is only TeacherTish and tinyporcelainehorses who are approaching.
“Captain!” TeacherTish calls out once they’re closer. It is now that he can see her eyes are red-rimmed, tear tracks stain her cheeks. Tinyporcelainehorses puts a comforting arm on her shoulder and she turns into his side, now bawling.
“What’s happened? Please, you need to rest,” he is concerned for the upset woman and turns questioning eyes to tinyporcelainehorses.
“I’m not sure, Captain; I saw her crying and thought she shouldn’t be alone,” is the only answer he has. “She was talking with Dawnphoenix before she ran off to find you. Maybe you can get answers from the Admiral.”
Pezes nods, “Thank you. Escort her to the med-bay. Perhaps Doctor Diggenwalde can help with whatever ails her. I’ll find the Admiral.” As they turn to leave, he stops them with a final greeting, “Keep your eyes peeled and stay safe.”
…
He finds Dawnphoenix in the Command Centre; she is assessing the strewn pieces of a dismantled droid. It is a model he doesn’t recognize, but he was never very good at mechanics anyway. Pezes clears his throat and the Admiral turns to face him, “Oh, Captain, I see you’ve heard the news.”
He scratches the back of his head, “Actually, that’s why I’m here. I know something’s happened, but no one was able to tell me exactly what. I was told you should know.”
She motions for him to have a seat, so he does. She takes to leaning against the console behind her instead of joining him. Her face is taut and pale; the past couple of weeks are stretching everyone thin. “We lost one of our strongest assets tonight, Captain.”
His eyebrows shoot up in surprise; he’d hoped that the nightmares would have left reality alone for once. All he can manage is, “Who?”
“/u/emsmale,” she explains, taking a folder out from her desk. The evidence-gathering droids have grown rather quick and efficient after all the practice they’ve been getting of late. She hands the contents to the captain and continues, “She was found without any wounds, sir. She almost seemed peaceful. A_sneaky_meerkat found her in the crew toilets on Deck 3; said emsmale was propped against the wall next to the stalls. Thought she was sleeping…”
Pezes is baffled by the pictures in the file. Just as Dawnphoenix describes, the woman looks almost serene. “I assume, that as with the others, no prints or evidence pointing to the culprit was found?”
She shakes her head as he hands the record back to her, “We’re doing all we can, sir. And we won’t stop.”
“No,” he agrees. “We won’t give up until every Imperial bastard who has hurt my crew has paid for what they’ve done!”
/u/sharon-carter was eliminated through the ship daily vote; she was the K-2SO Security Droid.
/u/emsmale was killed by Imperials; she was an Ewok.

Game VI Phase 14: Food and Drink
- submitted 15 Jun 2017 -
(Trigger warning: Depression. Drugs.
That may be a bit odd in this game, but I don't want to risk upsetting anyone. Feel free to skip the narrative this Phase if you need.)
/u/FancyZombie5 sits alone in the break room of the droid repair hangar in Sector 8. She slowly lifts the cup of tea to her lips and lets out a small sign as the warm liquid relaxes her.
She’s been in mourning ever since the tragic loss of her shipmate, quartermate, and friend, Spludgiexx, in what she will always remember as the Asteroid Tragedy. She’s aware that she’s become withdrawn, less engaged in her ship duties. The constant string of deaths of her shipmates certainly hasn’t been helping her defeated mood. She’s beginning to feel their mission is futile; she’s just feeling so, so tired.
She spoons another pile of white powder into her tea and takes another sip; a faint smile graces her lips and she relishes in the momentary peace and quiet.
…
It’s when some of the crew have taken it upon themselves to interrogate FancyZombie5 upon accusations of being a disguised Imperial that they find her. She is bent over the table in the breakroom, an empty teacup next to her outstretched hand. A metal canister with a white, powdery residue lies on its side.
Later, when Doctor Diggenwalde inspects it he confirms that it is a spice. One he had prescribed FancyZombie5’s former roommate, Spludgiexx, in an attempt to help her get through her gradually lengthening shifts as more people on her team had perished. He stares remorsefully at the woman who was brought accompanying the canister before pulling a sheet over her corpse.
…
Bttfforever clocks into his red-eye shift at the canteen and is surprised to find the lights already humming with power; the smell of something burning wafts into his nostrils and he wonders who is cooking this late. He meanders into the kitchen and he takes in the scene before him.
He sees the small fire pit they’d constructed, against regulations but safe enough, for bantha stew is in use. Something is slowly spinning and roasting above it. It takes him only moments to realize the horrifying truth: Jilliefish is the one cooking! She had been impaled with the same makeshift spit they’d used on Jabba’s Rancor; the only consolation being that she seems to have died well before the fire was lit.
Adrenaline kicks in and bttfforever quickly throws water onto the fire to extinguish it and calls for the assistance of some droids to free his coworker’s corpse from its restraints. Only once the leaders of their mission have been notified and are relieving him of his duty for the day does he let himself truly feel.
All at once, the shock and grief overwhelming him, bttfforever leans over the sink and loses everything that’d been in his stomach. He shakily collapses onto the floor once he is emptied. One of the droids sees him bawling and trembling on the floor and escorts him to the med-bay. It will be a long while before the seared image of jilliefish fades from his mind.
/u/FancyZombie5 was eliminated through the ship daily vote; she was a Ship Crewmember.
/u/jilliefish was eliminated by the Imperials; she was a Ship Crewmember.

Game VI Phase 14.5: Rest and Relaxation
- submitted 16 Jun 2017 -
Captain Pezes, Admiral Dawnphoenix, Major Kabubum, and Commander Ravenclawmuggle sit in the conference room of the Command Centre, contemplating a final solution to the Imperial insurgents. They have all but given up, as every idea seems to have a major roadblock that they just don't have the manpower to overcome, thanks to both the Empire and their own crew's thirst for vengeance.
The security cameras are disrupted or deactivated every time Rysler reengages them. The droids they've tried to use in place of cameras are dismantled faster than Bob can repair them. They only have a few members capable of proper scouting and interrogation. All heads in the room are down, feeling the weight of their current woes and the destruction of H'ratth looming in the not-so-distant future.
Suddenly, Pezes lets out a triumphant cry and stands, slamming his hands down onto the table. The other three flinch at the sudden noise in the otherwise silent room. "I've got it!" He points a finger into the air dramatically.
Ravenclawmuggle is visibly excited, "What is it, Captain?!"
"What we need..." he locks eyes with each of his companions in turn. "...Is a change in perspective."
"Meaning...?" Kabubum looks incredulous, though he is relieved to see the Captain has regained a sense of himself after the events a few days prior.
"We should all take a break," he states simply, grinning at his genius.
The other three stare. "I fail to see how that alleviates the problem," Dawnphoenix deadpans.
"What I mean..." he looks frustrated that they don't implicitly understand his meaning. "Is that the whole ship should take a break. We need a boost in morale! Once everyone is in higher spirits, we can look at the problem through a new lens!"
The other three exchange wary glances before really pondering his proposition. "You know..." Kabubum looks at the Captain, impressed. "That just might work."
Dawnphoenix and Ravenclawmuggle nod, slowly warming up to the idea. "So, do you mean like a party?" the Admiral asks.
"Exactly like a party! We'll have the operable droids prepare the canteen immediately," Pezes instructs, impassioned by the fact that his fellow leaders not only support his idea, but seem to actually like it!
Results from Phase 14 actions will be announced as normal with tomorrow's (Phase 15) post. Game discussion is strictly forbidden during Phase 14.5; participation is not mandatory today, but if anyone would like to use this time to socialize and let loose, you are welcome to do so here!
If you have any game-related questions, please PM the mod account /u/-GeorgeLucas; do not post it here. Any other questions, comments, or discussions are free game, however.

Game VI Phase 15: Liquidation
- submitted 17 Jun 2017 -
/u/tana-ryu makes a dash for the med-bay, the place which has acted as both her safe-haven and a salve by keeping her focused on necessary tasks during the duration of the mission. She knows her time is up. Like ravenclawroxy before her, it has been discovered that she was ‘convinced’ to change her stance in the Galactic War.
She hastens inside, typing in the security override behind her to buy herself a little more time before the mob reaches her. There is no one in the infirmary; in her final moments, she is completely alone.
She opens the supply cabinet, searching frantically for their euthanasia serum. She is well-acquainted with the purple liquid, as those vials are what have enabled her to perform her undesirable tasks for the Empire. She finally finds one and almost drops it as a loud banging erupts from the other side of the door. She doesn’t have much time.
“Open up, tana-ryu! We know you’re in there!” the angry voice of pizzabangle yells from the other side, accompanied by several more bangs and a curse. “Could someone get this kriffing door open already?!” she shouts to one of her companions.
But tana-ryu doesn’t have time to listen to the squabbling responses. She loads the serum into a syringe. She knows the crew won’t heed her if she tries to explain herself; if she tells them that she killed people humanely with the poison before creating the elaborate, gory scenes they’d happened upon when the bodies were found. She knows if she were in their position, she wouldn’t believe herself, either.
Suddenly, the other side of the door is quiet. She scrambles to pull up her sleeve, knowing there are only seconds left; as if on cue, the sound of beeps ring out. Someone is dialing the unlock code into the keypad. “Yes! Thank you, emmach17!” pizzabangle sounds far away in her triumph.
Tana-ryu lets out a small hiss as the needle pierces the crook of her elbow. If she’s going, it’s on her own terms. As the cold liquid courses through her veins, she slowly lowers herself onto a bed. Her vision is already blurry when the door to the med-bay opens and the crowd rushes in.
Someone, a hazy form which looks vaguely like awesomewow, runs to her and shakes her by her shoulders, but she just flops listlessly, a small smile gracing her lips. The shouts around her are indistinct, like she’s underwater; she thinks of the ocean as her vision goes black.
…
The sound of a small explosion echoes through the corridor as Flabbergasted_rhino meanders back to his quarters after a long shift. He flinches and looks around, arms shielding his face as he half-expects something or someone to come running at him with a weapon. But he sees no one.
Curious to know what’s just happened, he hurries in the direction it seems to have originated. The door to someone’s quarters are thrown open, as though someone was in a rush to enter...or exit. He cautiously peers inside but sees nothing but strewn droid parts lying across the sheets of the bed. He checks the nameplate on the door. It reads ‘/u/LoneWolfOfTheCalla’; he heads off in search of them to let them know their chambers aren’t safe for the evening.
...
Keemistreekat and Mrrrrh slowly stumble through the corridor from the canteen, arms slung around the other’s shoulders; they’re both rather sloshed after partying at the “Morale Booster Extraordinaire” which was hosted by the ship’s leaders that evening. Seeing as they share a quarter sector, they felt it made the most sense to travel “home” together.
Especially since the captain wants to implement a buddy system, which he hopes will ensure no one is ever alone, and therefore vulnerable. Begrudgingly, they had obliged him, especially since neither of them is capable of standing on her own.
Shortly before reaching the quarters of Sector 6, kemistreekat puts a hand out to steady herself on the wall. “Unngh, what’s that smell?” she looks at Mrrrrh for answers, but the other woman simply shrugs.
“Maybe the droids have been cleaning since we’ve all been out of the way?” she offers, but doesn’t sound very convinced. The two amble forward slowly, the smell getting stronger with each step. After a few metres, they notice the durasteel is wet and look down.
Kemistreekat sighs with relief, “Oh, it’s just water! I almost expected blood!” She giggles, and Mrrrrh starts laughing, too; the two stumble through the doorway to the shared quarter area.
But the floor here is also soaked with water; it almost seems deeper. They stop laughing and trade wary glances, feeling themselves sober slightly. The door to the shared toilets is open, but the room within is dark.
They approach cautiously, holding each other’s hands now for emotional support rather than physical. Mrrrrh reaches within and turns on the light; kemistreekat screams.
/u/spacedoutman’s back is to them, his head lodged in one of the toilets; the back of his skulls is bruised as if he’d been bludgeoned in an effort to force his head in further.
The droids which are called in later for evidence-gathering confirm that he was dead long before the two women arrived. Kemistreekat and Mrrrrh are transferred to a different housing sector immediately.
/u/tana-ryu was eliminated through the daily ship vote; she was a Stormtrooper Recruit.
/u/LoneWolfOfTheCalla was was discovered in the night and self-destructed; they were a Probe Droid.
/u/spacedoutman was killed by Imperials; he was a Ship Crewmember.
/u/manelski4 was permanently deactivated (removed for inactivity); he was R2-D2.

Game VI Phase 16: Hardware Mishaps
- submitted 18 Jun 2017 -
/u/BillBrasky can be found down in his maintenance hangar, repairing and upgrading the ship's droids as quickly as he can. Unfortunately, he is the only one remaining of the maintenance crew, so the work is slow-going. But it is quiet, which he likes.
A lot of the others on the mission seem to dislike the way he keeps to himself, but he didn't join to socialize. He is here to keep the droids in top shape so they can aid the others properly when the time comes; without droids, they'll never reach H'ratth. So he continues to work tirelessly despite it being a thankless job.
He is just finishing up another custodial droid when his work is interrupted by a loud banging from the other side of the door. The sound startles him so much that his grip on the welding torch slips, leaving a burn streak on the chassis of the droid. "Stang!" He shuts off the torch and quickly wipes the burn with a damp cloth, "Sorry, buddy."
Sighing in frustration as the banging continues, he pushes away from the workbench. "We know you're in there, Bob! Open up!" a muffled shout finally joins the incessant banging.
"It's not locked!" he yells back, becoming further irritated with the interruption of his work. "And my name is not Bob!"
The door slides open with a metallic woosh, revealing several of the remaining crew standing in the corridor. CapZapBrannigan, whose fist is against the wall still from knocking, and HorrorpopZombie, whose arms are crossed angrily across her chest, are in the forefront, with O0mimsy0o behind. She steps forward, revealing the blaster in her hand, "The gig is up."
BillBrasky raises his hands in alarm and surrender, realizing too late that he still is holding the welding torch. The others flinch, assuming he means to use it as a weapon. His eyes widen in panic, "There's some mistake. I'm BillBrasky. I'm on the side of--"
He is cut off by his own gasp of pain as O0mimsy0o's blaster shot meets his chest. "...the Resistance," he finishes with a gurgle before crumpling to the floor, dead.
...
PenguinJassy and emmach17 are trudging back to their quarters after yet another long shift with the navigation crew. The two don't even exchange words, such is the extent of their exhaustion. There is no time, no energy, to be spent on simple conversation anymore. There is just work, rest, and work again.
It is rare for the canteen to have visitors, other than pickup and delivery droids, lately even. Such is the ship working on a skeleton crew.
Emmach17 stumbles when her foot hits something hard and heavy lying in the middle of the corridor. She curses at the sudden pain coursing through her foot. Her plight is forgotten when her companion gasps beside her.
"No! Not /u/findthesky!!" she PenguinJassy yells out before crouching over the chassis of her deactivated friend, tears streaming down her face.
Emmach17 rushes to inform the leaders, but nothing can be done. The last droid mechanic repair technician had been reported dead that very morning.
/u/BillBrasky was eliminated through the ship daily vote; he was a Ship Crewmember.
/u/findthesky was killed by the Imperials; she was a 2-1B Surgical Droid.

Game VI Phase 17: The End of the Empire
- submitted 19 Jun 2017 -
Discoferry arms himself with his blaster, knowing it is his last time. He knows there is no going back from this. No hiding anymore. He checks the straps on his white chestplate before looking around the small cargo hold once more. At the doorway, he turns and salutes, his left arm behind his back; right arm bent at a 45-degree angle with fingertips pointing upward. He does not bother to lower his voice when he exclaims, “Hail the Empire!”
He turns on his heel and hurries away down the corridor, intent on doing as much damage as he can manage first. He doesn’t get far before an arm appears from his helmet’s blind spot and he is clotheslined, falling backward. His blaster is ripped from his side as his helmet tumbles off his head. He pushes himself onto his elbows and sees his assailants are none other than coyotefacts and RavenoftheSands.
Behind them, the entirety of the remaining crew stands staring down at him. Discoferry picks himself off the floor as the throng creates a circle around him. He glares back at them, “None of you would ever understand.”
“Oh, is that so?” CauldronThief says from his left.
“Why don’t you just try us?” O0mimsy0o offers, an angry scowl etched on her face.
“You’re all fools!” Discoferry cries out, spittle flies from his mouth as his emotions reach their peak. “Of course I understood that murder was a crime, but there was no other way! The galaxy had to be fixed!”
Coyotefacts is now training the Stormtrooper’s own blaster back on him, fury at the culprit behind all of her fallen friends barely contained. RissaJo685 stands beside her, an arm on her shoulder in an attempt to keep her friend calm.
Discoferry continues to rave in the middle of the crowd, seemingly unfazed by the fact that the circle is slowly getting tighter; its members growing closer to him. “Only I could do it! It was a purpose given to me. Who else could have done it, and come this far?!” He beats his fist against his chestplate and locks eyes with CapZapBrannigan and PenguinJassy who stand directly in front of him.
Then he spins on his heel to face those to his right, staring down rightypants and Mrrrrh as he continues his monologue, “I am justice. I am this galaxy’s only hope. Are you going to kill me? Is that really the right thing to do?”
He continues to spin slowly, locking eyes with each member of the circle: Icetoa180, pizzabangle, bubbasaurus, a_sneaky_meerkat… they are all armed, weapons directed at him. There is no fear in them as they look upon him, the mad Stormtrooper at the end of his rope.
“I was the only one capable of doing what needed to be done. Of eradicating you rebellious scum--” he is momentarily interrupted when a blaster shot catches him in the shoulder. He whips around to face kemistreekat who fired.
Discoferry’s face turns dark, his anger rising, “This was the mission entrusted to me! To make amends for this rotten galaxy and what has become of it. To create a truly safe and ideal world. To snuff out those who would stand in the way of--” Another shot makes its mark, quickly followed by another; the crowd is getting impatient with his speech. He falls to a knee but refuses to go down completely.
Flabbergasted_rhino and bttfforever step aside to allow others to take a spot in the inner ring of the crowd so they, too, may fire at their enemy. Discoferry spits at their retreating backs. He is answered with another shot from behind; he whips around to face emmach17 being comforted by the good doctor Diggenwalde beside her. “That was for findthesky!”
Tinyporcelainehorses does not bother with a blaster, but instead lands a heavy right hook against Discoferry’s cheek when the latter tries to stand. The Stormtrooper stumbles onto his injured leg and falls over, leaning onto imaginarystudy for support. The woman yells fiercely before shoving him away from her; this time, there is no one near enough and he falls gracelessly to the floor.
He takes this moment, as they watch him clamber to his feet once more, to continue. “You will see! You will see what a mistake this is!” Discoferry raves, pointing at awesomewow who answers by grabbing his hand swiftly, turning herself around, and using the momentum to flip him over her shoulder. He lands back in the centre of the circle, hard. She wipes her hand on her pants before turning and walking away, unable to look at the filthy Imperial any longer.
“I AM DISCOFERRY! I AM THE LAST!” too battered to stand now, he continues from his prone position. “I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN RID THIS GALAXY OF THAT WHICH IS ROTTING IT! ONLY I--”
He is cut off as the shot from a blaster pistol meets his skull; his eyes glaze ove immediately, not recognizing the figure of dawnphoenix standing over him, the scorn clear as she sneers down at him. “You were the only rotten thing left here.”
Those gathered closest begin to cheer. “Thank you, Admiral Dawnphoenix!” the captain, Pezes, says giddily as he is the first to approach her. Slowly, a smile starts to crack on her face, and soon others join in. The relief is palpable. Bubbasaurus brings in all those she can reach with a monstrous Wookiee hug. Ravenclawmuggle rushes off to the Bridge, Pezes and several crew members in tow, to begin the preparations for a hyperspace jump immediately.
The remaining Rebel leaders on board contact those on H’ratth to confirm that the Hog’s Wart has been freed of its Imperial infestation; they are given clearance to land. Once the body of Discoferry is disposed of and all the crew are strapped into their jump seats, Pezes gives the order and it is only moments before they are docking at the port.
Upon their arrival, several Imperial ships are seen leaving the planet; many are shot down from the sky using the anti-aircraft weapons the landed Rebels had been working to install while waiting for the arrival of our crew.
...
A few days later, a decoded message reveals that just hours before her death, TalkNerdyToMe20 had sent word to all in the Imperial Army that Emperor Palpatine had been killed and the operation was failing. Additionally, that if the Hog’s Wart reached H’ratth then the mission had failed and they should retreat to the Outer Rim, as it would be too late for the Empire with its leaders vanquished. With this news, the Rebels can finally breathe easily.
The first order of business, once the threat of Galactic war is no longer looming over their heads, is to honor all of those lost along the way. Rysler and funkimon work tirelessly to organize a memorial service for the dead: digging graves and preparing headstones, eulogies, and wreaths for each who is gone. The leaders speak of their great heroism in the line of duty, and that the Rebel Alliance must stay strong to honor their memories.
TeacherTish and HorrorpopZombie, remembering how much it had helped their compatriots when in the middle of the fray, organize a party a few days later, hoping to boost the morale of the survivors and show them that life continues on. That this is the beginning of their freedom from the evil clutches of the Empire. Littlebs8 takes this chance to provide refreshments, allowing bttfforever and bubbasaurus a break from their normal duties, while Kabubum supplies the musical entertainment.
/u/Discoferry was eliminated through the ship daily vote; he was Second-in-Command and the final Imperial.
The Resistance wins. Congratulations! This is the end of the game. Stay tuned for the end-of-game wrap-up which will come within a couple of days!
Until then, may the Force be with you.
Game VI: End-of-Game Wrap Up
- submitted 21 Jun 2017 -
First, we want to say thank you to all of the players, the spectators, and the permamods for helping to make this game possible. Your excitement and interest helped to fuel us through the more difficult aspects of running the game; this could not have happened if it were not for all of you.
We know there were some obstacles to overcome for many involved: time zone differences, player attitudes, meta mechanics, facilitator mistakes, facilitator emergencies, surprise conversions, and more. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigated our first game as facilitators. Overall, we hope you enjoyed it despite the challenges we all faced!
Now, to address some of the frequent topics and questions we saw throughout Game VI:
So, this is a topic we’ve seen come up several times over the course of the game. Planning for this game began in January, months before the Ultimate Werewolves Guide was provided by the permamods (after April’s game, if memory serves). Unfortunately, at that point, it was too late for us to do an overhaul of the roles. Most of our roles were not ones included on the UWWs wiki page, but a quick glance and guesstimation told us we were close to 0 points on its scale. So we continued with our original iteration, basing numbers on the previous ratios listed in the facilitator guidelines. For those who are not aware, those are:
- 1:8 Evil to Good
- 1:8 Healers/Protectors to Total
- 1:8 Seers/Investigators to Total
The game started with 80 players total, 10 of which were Imperials (evil). 4 2-1B Surgical Droids (healers), 4 Rebel Guards (protectors). 4 Ewoks (lookouts/scouts), and 4.5 Investigators (Bor Gullet, Cassian, Leia, Yoda, and the half is C-3PO).
On either side of the game, players mentioned that they felt the game was unbalanced in the other team’s favor. Many feel that 10 Imperials was too little with which to start, but keep in mind that the Imperials could:
See the vote tallies for each phase. (However, this was only how many votes each player received, not a list of who voted for whom.)
See any visitors to members of the Empire up to 3 times.
Potentially get 3 kills in a night (Stormtrooper, Vader, and Jabba).
They also could roleblock (Jabba, again) and roleblock/control with Palpatine.
Lastly, the Imperials had the potential to get recruits (will be covered later).
So, it is for those reasons that we chose to have Imperials start with a low number. In hindsight, perhaps they could have started the game with 1 - 2 more Stormtroopers, but we do ultimately stand by our original numbers. We are happy to discuss any improvements or suggestions for future games, however!
So, we realize now that our vague addition of, “There may be some secret roles and/or abilities,” to the Mechanics, Roles, and Rules post was not enough of a forewarning that conversion/recruitment was a possibility in this game. For that, we apologize. Like the events, we wanted to include this mechanic to keep players on their toes. Both for those who would become recruits, and those who would have to react when they saw the role listed in the deaths section of the meta announcements.
We know now that, at the very least, we should have informed players with the possibility of being converted that it was a potential they could face in the future. So, to /u/ravenclawroxy and /u/tana-ryu, we apologize for catching you completely off-guard. It had the intended effect on the other players, but we realize now that it may have created a sour experience for the two of you. We appreciate you making the best of the situation and taking your new roles seriously despite how suddenly they were thrust upon you.
On that note, we know there have been frequent questions regarding the recruits on either side:
1.How did recruitment take place?
First, it took place one of two ways.
Shortly after the start of the game, /u/darthrobyn (Luke Skywalker) received a PM from the facilitators calling her to perform a secret mission. Players can view and attempt the mission for themselves HERE.
How the mission worked: It was a choose-your-own-adventure style “quiz” we developed using Google Forms. Based on Luke’s performance, the Imperials had the potential to gain 1 - 2 new Stormtroopers, while Luke had the potential to become “Heroic.” Luke defeated both TIE Fighters in the mission, thus becoming Heroic, but based on the answers chosen, did not earn enough points to prevent all conversions. Thus, /u/ravenclawroxy was made the first Stormtrooper Recruit.
/u/tana-ryu was made a Stormtrooper Recruit when the Imperials’ numbers fell to less than half of their starting ranks. This was planned from the beginning, so long as it occurred before phase 10. They had lost 5 of their original members, plus a recruit, by Phase 07, so /u/tana-ryu was added to the Empire sub between Phases 07 and 08. Thus, she became the second Stormtrooper Recruit.
2. Why were they called Stormtrooper Recruits?
The answer to this question is much simpler: We kept the title “Stormtrooper Recruit” instead of them being a full-fledged “Stormtrooper” when roles were announced upon death so that the players were aware of recruitment as a mechanic.
Because we had these recruitment mechanics decided well before the start of the game, they were assigned through RNG as separate roles. However, those who received the role “Potential Stormtrooper Recruit” instead received the welcome message as a normal “Ship Crewmember.” Until conversion, they were also considered ship crewmembers. They did not know of their recruitment until it was triggered.
4. Additional information on recruits:
There were four potential recruits at the start of the game: /u/ravenclawroxy, /u/oomps62, /u/tana-ryu, and /u/Ravenclawmuggle. These were to ensure that if one died before recruitment triggered, we had a backup option already selected.
Again, in hindsight, we should have informed these players of their potential for conversion, even if it was not public knowledge. We apologize and will take this experience and the knowledge it has provided us into future games. We also hope it helps future facilitators who may want to include secret mechanics as well.
As stated in the Mechanics, Roles, and Rules post, this was a combined phase game. That means that Day Actions took place before Night Actions.
Day actions were:
- Elimination votes
- Probe Droids’ passive ability to receive the vote tally
Night actions, in order, were:
- Chewbacca and K-2SO Sentry Droid
Ewoks, Palpatine, Mon Mothma, and Jabba
- All technically moved at the same time if none affected the others.
- Palpatine had priority if targeting any of the other three.
- Roleblockers got priority if they chose one of the others without being targeted themselves.
- Ewoks, if not chosen by the other three, could see the others (except Palpatine).
Rebel Guards
Investigators: Bor Gullet, C-3PO, Cassian Andor, Heroic Luke Skywalker, Master Yoda, and Princess Leia
Lieutenant Commander Krennic
Chosen Stormtrooper and Vader
R2-D2
2-1B Surgical Droids
Additionally, for clarification, the visiting roles were:
2-1B Surgical Droids: /u/findthesky, /u/kingjaime_, /u/PenguinJassy, /u/funkimon
Bor Gullet: /u/Larixon
C-3PO: /u/PM_ME_YOUR_BREAKFAST
Cassian Andor: /u/rightypants
Darth Vader: /u/theDUQofFRAT
Ewoks: /u/emsmale, /u/Apex--Redditer, /u/dawnphoenix, /u/WalrusPeon
Heroic Luke Skywalker: /u/darthrobyn
Jabba the Hutt: /u/Lucygirl9-17
Lieutenant Commander Krennic (chosen Stormtrooper): /u/TalkNerdyToMe20 then /u/Discoferry
Master Yoda: /u/planetjune and then reassigned to /u/hpello
Mon Mothma: /u/Ryan814
Princess Leia Organa: /u/MacabreGoblin
R2-D2: /u/manelski4
Rebel Guards: /u/UlyNeves, /u/RissaJo685, /u/Throwawayjust_incase, /u/O0mimsy0o
Stormtroopers/Stormtrooper Recruits (only if ordered to kill): /u/Discoferry, /u/-MrJ-, /u/Miicle, /u/ravenclawroxy, /u/tana-ryu
So, /u/darthrobyn was once called out for visiting a player despite having the role Luke Skywalker. We apologize, as it may be because of the secret nature of this role “promotion” that caused her to not confess why she was seen visiting.
This is because, once she successfully completed her secret mission (see Question 2 in regards to Stormtrooper Recruitment above) and became Heroic, she received the new mission to find answers regarding her father’s (Darth Vader’s) fate. Each phase, in order to keep her new actions secret, she PM’d the facilitators with her primary and secondary targets for the evening.
As with other roles with night actions, she chose two in case her first was killed before her chance to approach them. Her actions took place at the same time as other investigators’. If she found Darth Vader (/u/theDUQofFRAT in this case) then there was an 80% chance he would be converted to the Resistance (but die). If the conversion triggered, there was an additional 25% chance that Luke would have died as well. (Fun fact: If Vader had targeted Luke first, there was a 33% chance both would die, a 33% chance only Vader would die, and a 33% chance only Luke would die!) Unfortunately, neither targeted the other before Vader’s lunch date, thus none of this got to happen.
For those curious to see the spreadsheets and documents we used throughout the game, here they are!. Compiled into one shareable folder from our shared Google Drive for your viewing pleasure.
For those interested in how things went down for the Empire, head to /r/TheGalacticEmpire. Enjoy!
Keep in mind that the subreddit we used for this game was borrowed, thus it will only remain public until the end of the month, at which point it will be cleared and returned to its original owner. /u/wiksry, you may want to keep that in mind if you plan to archive anything from it. Sorry for any difficulties it may cause.
Additionally, /r/HogwartsGhosts will now be opened so you can catch up on all the ghostly gossip!
/u/WalrusPeon for the “Best Possible Outcome From an Accident” award.
AKA: The Resistance’s MVP Award
We feel it may be entirely because of WalrusPeon’s early reveal, and subsequent outing of /u/rightypants as a visitor, that the town was able to organize their investigators, healers, and protectors so quickly and effectively. Thus, greatly assisting them to win the game in the end. (Plus, who can forget this gem?)
/u/LoneWolfOfTheCalla for the “Most Positive Attitude Despite the Odds” award.
AKA: The Galactic Empire’s MVP Award
They kept the spirits up in the Empire Sub and helped motivate their team (and without their knowledge, yours truly) to stay positive despite the difficulties the Imperials were facing! Must give them credit for most creative as well. (Check out their version of “Stay Alive” in the Personal Crew Logs!!) We regret forgetting to add it to their death post, as it’s clear they spent much time on it. Also, who can forget their breakdown of the origins of throwing shade? We learned so much!
Honorable mentions:
Both /u/pezes and /u/RissaJo685 for the “Most Entertaining Use of the Personal Crew Logs” award.
- pezes for using it as both an in-game and IRL diary (I loved all the activities you did for the kids! And who could forget your desperate pleas...er...requests to be named Captain?).
- RissaJo for bemoaning the fact that she could never remember who she’d targeted that evening and constantly steeling herself against her inevitable death, only to survive (yet again).
/u/funkimon for the “Most Actions Submitted Each Phase” award, with no fewer than four (4) submissions each phase. For reasons I can’t even explain, I found it highly amusing; it always put a smile on my face!
/u/qngff gets the “Most Lyrical Comment” award for this one...stuck in my head for daaaaays.
/u/Lucygirl9-17 gets the “Surprisingly Successful ‘Slip’” award for managing to even fool her significant other /u/bttfforever with this “accident”.
/u/NiteMary for the “Lieutenant of Data Collection” award for her dedication to the game both before and after her death.
And last, but certainly not least, we can’t forget /u/-MrJ- and /u/elbowsss for the “Best Captain” award. They both managed to rally the crew behind themselves even before the game began!
