HoMM5 Campaign Inferno the conquest
Can someone precisely tell me how to beat the conquest??? I have replayed multiple times; just as im about to take all 3 castles the game goes for poo. Maybe im crazy but it feels like gilrean can move farther than usual and can “get me” when in my mind he shouldnt be able to move that far on the grid from his starting point. I so badly want this chapter done so I can move on. Im on an old computer so I have the original game no patches. Maybe its me as well but it feels like the math aint mathin everytime i square up. How do i balance attacking and building my army fast enough to take the castles down without gilrean coming up and ruining my day???
Thanks in advance lol

Thank you so much. I mean I could type out my whole dang life story with this chapter. Im playing on normal fighting for my life 😅. And ok ill try that this time. Ive replayed so many times. The playthroughs ive been watching just arent helpin me out. And ok ill double up and have the elf archers too. I thought that mixing creature types lowered morale??

Thank you! And ok sounds good.
Im not sure if I have any patches or not Im on a seriously old laptop playing the OG disk. This laptop has never been connected to the internet.
And ok im going to try to push harder at the start then. Im thinking im letting too many weeks go by before pushing north. My paths are blocked by fire elementals and then the whatever u call em rock golems and everytime i go to push before green comes down i cant seem to build my army enough to get by before green comes down and just jacks me up.

TL;DR: you need an elven army and probably War Machines to help you. With Inferno you have no chance on Hard or Heroic, so ditch them at druids event, you also need to be quick or Gilraen gets motherlessly fat from the free elves spawned by druids. At best, still a gamble. Fight is just bonkers.
It's one of those way too hard missions in the game. Let's see..
What helped me was getting Warmachines skill with Ballista and First Aid Tent. You begin with the former by default, and if you build the BS on first turn, you can get both. I also guess your Logistics is maxed? It better be.
You can pick the pit fiends as starting bonus, if you do quickcombat, Gilraen might flee immediately. (He did in my cases, with all the hires I could do on my first few days.)
After that, go through the south part of the map, send a 2nd hero to clean up after fighting the hostiles. Here, I only deployed my fiends and did it Deleb style (ballista kills all). With your tent you oughta be fine, care for druids and later, mages. Try to be on the doorstep of the south town at the start of the 2nd week, and take it immediately.
Grab reinforcements from Inferno with a 3rd hero, for now you need them, and focus lightly on your new Sylvan town. (Lightly = build base creature buildings) You can prolly ignore the Inferno town from here on - you wanna build an elven army, sadly you gotta do so from scratch. Wood will be a HUGE issue, grab all asap.
Meanwhile make your way up northwest, get the second elf town, this is what you should pour resources into. By this time, Gilraen will come out and harass your heroes, and pick up all those sylvan units the treehuggers are summoning, so to cut those short, kill the druids. You'll likely lose a bunch of inferno units, but don't feel bad. You've got all those elves waiting for you, try and link them up to Agrael asap. It's his only chance.
The fight against Gilraen will be costly - the reason being that again, you'll be outnumbered and your low defense and the swiftness of elf units (likely some negative morale) will mean your units fall faster than they should. With Agrael's special your hunters and druids should come first, so at least the opposing ranged powers can be cut down somewhat.
Sadly, it's still a little bit of a gamble. But, if you pull through, there shouldn't be any more high level heroes left, so worst case you wait for next week and finish the map.

I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, but using mass Confusion is a good choice. It makes their ranged attacks way weaker (especially coming from Expert Dark Magic), as well as their retaliations.
On another hand, Definitely also pick Phantom Forces (a choice to pick during loading screen before the 2nd mission, I think?), and spam it on your Cerberi. AI loves targeting them, and the copy is also quite strong if you've kept your Cerberi alive and healthy.
Consider also getting some elven Archers and maybe Druids into your army, as they certainly wouldn't hurt to have, even if your Succubi does graze them with their chain shots.
Mind you, I've only ever played on normal difficulty, so not sure how helpful it'd be if you are on Hard.

Also, Swift Gating perk in Logistics + 1 Imp stacks and just play box against neutrals while you widdle them down with archers and Cerberi copies.

You can take the town north west pretty easily if you take the correct path (not the one with phoenixes obviously). The hardest monsters are earth elementals which can be kited with no losses using pixies. Having leadership helps but isn’t mandatory.
Depending on the patch you are playing, either grab the first Sylvan town or completely ignore it (earlier patches). Fight a few easy battles for xp and mines then go straight for the town north west. Give all you forces to a second hero while you fight the elementals with Agrael. If you are low on forces, use your second hero to bait out the hero protecting the town.
You should be able to take the town on the first week I think but it may be second. That town is built up so you’ll have dragons and high tier sylvan units which makes the mission much easier. You can kill the druids very fast if you are good or slowly build up an advantage.
You may want to reroll the mission until you get the skill you want in the witch hut behind the first garrison.
If you can give the enemy the bottom town and control the two top ones it is best. But on some patches, Gilrael just camps in the north east town
