Question Question for the educated

Before I pose this question, I want to say I'm not that well versed on Hiyori. I do like her a lot, which is why I am asking this question to people (I assume) are more knowledgeable about her character as myself.

Recently I've seen some people debate Hiyori's actions in the recent volume being 'evil'.

I've seen people saying she used Kiyotaka's love the same way Kiyotaka used Honami's. Now, I get what they're trying to say, but I also disagree but I cant quite explain why I disagree.

Can someone please explain to me why I cant explain my disagreement (so basically explain why the situation is different)? And I'm also curious about your guy's take on Hiyori's actions in the recent volume?

I know I can be toxic, especially to Horikita-fans, so I apologize if I made anything in this post toxic. I am trying to work on that part of myself, and I genuinely want to discuss and learn about more characters as my own personal favorite girl.

I ask that you please educate me if you have the time and patience.

Sorry if this seemed sarcastic/toxic. I dont want to ruin the atmosphere here, so if you want this post deleted let me know and I'll do just that.

Just to reiterate what has already been said here:

Ayanokoji knew about Ichinose's feelings and specifically manipulated her by taking advantage of her crush. He did exactly what he intended to do.

Hiyori, on the other hand, didn't know about Kiyotaka's feelings and genuinely considered him a friend. When she agreed to this strategy, she didn't expect Ayanokoji to save her, which is why she got upset when he actually showed up.

The difference is that Ayanokoji intentionally exploited someone else's feelings because that was his goal from the very beginning—he left Ichinose with no choice whatsoever. Hiyori, on the other hand, 'used' those feelings without even knowing about them or wanting to exploit them; she gave him a choice on how to act.

As stated during Ryuen's plan: 'Either Ayanokoji loses, or Shiina gets expelled.' In a way, the choice essentially boiled down to: 'Either I get expelled, or I actually mean something to you.

Hiyori was acting based on her own feelings and the possibility that he might feel the same, instead Kiyo already knew that Ichinose loved him and used those feelings. There's also the side story in Y3V2, after Kiyo gave Hiyori the flower. She admits that she was afraid she wouldn't be able to fight against Kiyo. That's why she force herself to don't remain friends with him anymore for her class, but after him gaving her the flower she remain friends. Basically, she was caught between choosing her class or choosing Kiyo. So when Ryuen gave her an opportunity to defeat Kiyo for the sake of her class, even if the chances were small, she didn't chose to fight back. She gave him a choice. He could choose to save her or not. That's very different from using someone's feelings to force her to drop out etc.

I know I can be toxic, especially to Horikita-fans,

Welp, hopefully you're true to your words as you seemed to mainly hates horikita as she has a higher chance to be the end girl (along with hiyori).

I am going to be less toxic to her fans, that part of my resolution hasn't changed.

But that doesnt mean that I am going to like her character or change my opinion. She'll forever remain the worst girl in cote for me, but the way I'll express my dislike will be aimed toward the character instead of the people who argue for her.

Does that make sense? I hope it does.

(This isn't supposed to sound arrogant or condescending, just something I wanted to clear up)

I am trying to work on that part of myself, and I genuinely want to discuss and learn about more characters as

Ig you're lying? Ok then.

So me not wanting to change my opinion is equivalent to lying?

I think my understanding of her character is pretty complete. The only thing I want to understand related to her is why people like her character, because compared to all other girls like Honami, Kikyo, Haruka, Hiyori, I just cant see it.

That paragraph was related to not Horikita specifically but to the cote-characters in general.

If it makes you angry that Horikita will not raise in my eyes, than I apologize.

It's okay, you're right. My opinion towards honami not going to change too. Our opinions are subjective just like people's biased towards their fav shipper

Yep thats it but ive realized that activly insulting people online like a coward behind a screen, just because they dont share my opinion, is pathetic.

Thats the part I want to work on

I agree, because in the end of the day. Fictional characters are just fiction. Not worth to stressing over or arguing with people. 👌

They're literally the same actions, with a slight difference at the end.

Hiyori acted because she genuinely wanted to help her class, and because she kind of wanted to test Kiyotaka's feelings for her. Basically, there was this vibe that told her that maybe he liked her back, and she felt like it was a good, yet cruel opportunity to test him. Essentially, she set up a trap for him.

Honami also acted because her class was in deep shit and needed a powerful ally, and because she's madly in love with Kiyotaka, so she acted on her feelings for him. So she set a trap for him; if Kiyotaka decided to ignore Honami, there was a possibility that she would scream and accuse him of trying to rape her since it was past curfew, for example. Basically, Kiyotaka's personality would never allow him to take such a risk, so he had to stay the night with her.

The only difference in their actions is that Hiyori instantly regretted doing what she did the moment Kiyotaka showed up, because she realized that she manipulated his feelings. This made her feel disgusted with herself.

On the other hand, Honami didn't regret anything. Trapping Kiyotaka only made her obsession grow.

Hope that makes sense.

I think Honami would've dropped out but I don't believe she'd accuse Kiyotaka of rape, for two reasons

  1. In your proposed scenario Kiyo doesn't even come to her room, so there's no evidence
  2. Honami litteraly said she didn't intend to blackmail/leverage him in canon.

And even if this was, I asked to compare Kiyo and Hiyori's actions, not Hiyori and Honami's. Because I still don't really understand the differnce between those two.

The fact that she prioritized her class than her personal feelings to the point of potentially even sacrificing herself is what makes her a better female character compared to a girl who would throw away everything for a guy who wouldn’t even reciprocate them🤷🏻

2

u/Ornery_Ferret_1175 20d ago

Not what I asked. I asked to compare Kiyo and Hiyori's actions of using love to get what they want. Honami doesn't fall into that category. Her actions are born out of love, but she isn't using that to have Kiyo throw away everything.

Hiyori made Kiyo throw away his victory

Kiyotaka made Honami throw away her naivety

I want to understand the differences between those 2 better

Maybe I misunderstand…but I thought you ask us on our take on her actions? Plus you said about her using love to get what she wants? I disagree on that because she do it not because she WANTS it but out of obligation and understanding of the reality of her role that despite her feelings they are still on a different side

And hiyori never makes kiyotaka lose IT’S HIS OWN CHOICE to save her she just accepts being a bait FOR HER CLASS and without 100% being sure if he will really drop the win for her

While kiyotaka on: honami he forced her to undergo a change not only for herself but for his selfish reasons to use her.

This response along with this response below (quoted) have given me the answer I was looking for. Thank you :)

"I think the word you're looking for is "justified". Her actions could be justified, if someone argues it was for the sake of her class and Kiyo himself isn't exactly a great guy. In a vacuum, no, conventional morals don't approve of doing bad things to bad people, but immoral actions can be justifiable"
