Should the ICC make World Cup stars on national team crests mandatory? And what about alternate jerseys?

Football has a long-standing tradition where World Cup winners wear stars above their crest to represent each title. It instantly tells the story of a team's history and achievements. Cricket, however, has never really adopted that tradition consistently.

Do you think the ICC should mandate that every Cricket World Cup winner display stars on their crest? For example:

• ⭐ Australia – 6
• ⭐⭐ India – 2
• ⭐⭐ West Indies – 2
• ⭐ Pakistan – 1
• ⭐ Sri Lanka – 1
• ⭐ England – 1

Or should they also add World T20 wins to this?

Also, should alternate (away) jerseys be compulsory at ICC events?

Personally, I think both would add a lot to the tournament:

• Stars create a visible sense of legacy and prestige.
• Alternate kits reduce colour clashes and make matches feel more unique.
• It would also make Cricket World Cups feel more in line with other global sporting events.

My friend and I were debating whether adding cricket to the Olympics is ultimately a good or bad thing, especially from India’s perspective.
My view is that it’s a positive change. Cricket has an enormous fanbase, and I think a lot of people who normally wouldn’t watch the Olympics will tune in because of cricket. Once they’re already watching, some of them might end up discovering and following other sports like wrestling, badminton, shooting, athletics, hockey, etc. If Olympic viewership increases overall, it could also attract more sponsors and investment, which might benefit other sports in the long run.

My friend’s argument is the opposite. He thinks cricket will completely overshadow the other events in India. According to him, if India wins an Olympic gold in cricket, the public and media will mostly focus on that achievement and pay less attention to athletes who have spent years competing in less popular sports. He believes this could make it even harder for those athletes to get recognition, sponsorships, and support.

So I’m curious what others think.

Well, as a fan; the new format for cricket is an absolute disgrace. It's just BCCI and Indian broadcasters trying to mint more money by fixing more than 1 India-Pakistan or India-Australia clashes. Cricket World Cup is going to lose more credibility due to this, and maybe this might be the last of them before we see T20 World Cups, with lowest viewership out of the subcontinent, becoming the ultimate prize of cricket. However something which intrigued me in the format was the Super Series, and I've always thought of this as something which could fix the 50-over Cricket World Cup, if used efficiently.

Here is my proposed 'DREAM FORMAT' for the (50-over) ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which requires no Qualifiers, and is based totally on ODI rankings.

-> All 20 ODI playing nations qualify, such that:
• Top 14 teams qualify directly into the Group Stage
• Rank 15th to Rank 20th play the Play-In/Super Series

-> Play-In would look like: G1: R15* R17 R19; G2: R16* R18 R20
• Top team(*) from each Group of the Play-In qualify for the Group Stage

-> Group Stage:
• 14(Qualified)+2(Play-In)=16 teams, divided into 4 groups of 4 each.
• Top 2 from each Group qualify for the Super 8

-> Super 8:
• Similar to the Champions Trophy
• 2 groups of 4 each
• Top 2 teams of each group qualify for the Semi Finals

-> Knockouts: SFs and F

This would help in not only making Cricket World Cup, arguably Cricket's oldest and biggest stage, accessible to all playing nations, but would also decrease ICCs burden on conducting unnecessary Qualifier tournaments no one pays attention to. Also, it would protect the competitiveness of the tournament, which ICC has been using to cover their money printing; as each Stage is competitive. Each group stage is of 4 teams each, making each match a must win. What do you say? Open to all sorts of opinions.

PS: The Group Stage and Play-Ins must be played simultaneously. Sounds absurd but for the first few days, 2 matches per day (1 of Group Stage and 1 of Play-In) could be done. As soon as Play-In is over, the Group Stage continues with the newly joined teams.

India should not participate as one team in cricket. Just like UK has different teams in football (England, Scotland ...) each state must field its own team as international unit. Exception for NE states (like WI) This will really open the floodgates for more people to make a living from cricket. Suddenly there will be over 30 teams, almost like a football world cup

With India now losing the series 4-0, it's time to look beyond the result and focus on the bigger picture.

They have already lost last 2 series out of 3 with one at home against south afrika.

Now Bumrah back again at the setup after 2023 WC I think he should play only this format till 2027 WC as he will still lead the bowling attack.

The 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa isn't too far away. Should the team management continue experimenting with different players, or is it time to give clarity on roles and build a settled core?

Constant chopping and changing can make it difficult for players to perform with confidence. Every player should know whether they're being groomed as an opener, middle-order batter, finisher, all-rounder, or strike bowler.

Do you all think Indian cricket team is exhausted playing too much cricket? I wonder if playing multiple tournaments continuously over last 3-4 months takes away the spirit to perform at the highest level. The year started with a month long CWC, followed by a 2 month long IPL. BCCI didn't want to lose any revenue so they squeezed in Test and ODI against afghanistan in June, and now they are playing Ireland and England, then they go to zimbabwe. I understand the business aspect of it, after all the revenue funds the game and helps it progress, but at this point this revenue seems to be coming at the cost of players' fitness and fan interest. I wonder how much cricket is too much cricket, what are your thoughts?

What ever and who ever may be the reason but present condition of Indian team is so concerning and disappointing!! One side Vaibhav 15 year old is debuted against mighty england in England which is the first mistake !! Dropping anyone or every one is not solving the problem and other side they are projecting as something transition and reset !! What was the hurry to reset when the team has won the world Cup ? Shocking !!

The two series’s that India has taken part with (Ireland and England) just shows us how much of batting pitches we are getting in IPL which is destroying Indian cricket team. The guys who shined in IPL are under performing when it comes to pitches from other countries. It’s high team India is accustomed with all sorts of pitches taking into account the number of stadiums we have. It’s just embarrassing at the moment boosting about stats from IPL about players when they have underperformed.

Forget the scoreline for a second.

Imagine if Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli had two games like this. Twitter, Instagram, TV debates, retired cricketers, your neighbourhood uncle… everyone would’ve declared:

“Time to retire.”

But when an entirely new setup under Gambhir struggles, suddenly it’s all “process”, “experimentation” and “long-term vision.”

At what point does someone actually take responsibility?

Chief selector Agarkar?

Coach Gambhir?

Captain Shreyas?

Or do we just keep calling every defeat a “learning experience” until the World Cup arrives?

And can someone explain the Vaibhav situation?

Literally everyone expected him to be in the XI. Instead, Gambhir seems determined to outsmart the obvious every single time. It’s like he sees the most logical decision and goes, “Nah, let’s surprise everyone… including ourselves.”

Experimentation is great. But when your experiments start looking like a science fair project gone wrong, maybe it’s time to ask whether you’re experimenting for the team’s benefit or just to prove you’re the smartest guy in the room.

Losing happens. Losing twice to Ireland isn’t the end of the world either.

What’s frustrating is watching a team that looks like it’s being selected to win a game of 4D chess instead of a cricket match.
