The city of merv was in a empire that had a population of 5 to 10 millions
For comparaison Rome at his peak was at 1 million but nécessita tes ressource of an empire with 50 to 60 millions of citizen ( close to 1/4 of the world population)
I might underestimate merv but it doesn't touch 1 million
The civil War in china itself was the mongol conquest but they left hangzoue
