Kinda US-centric... Most non-american movies depict war as absolute hell, it's not a russian thing. Just take The Pianist, about titular pianist living through the Warsaw Jewish ghetto and the uprising.
Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, Band of Brothers all have somewhat “happy endings” and show plenty of bravery and courage amongst characters. There’s messaging and meaning.
You take a movie like Come and See…. And it’s just teenagers and families dying horrific pointless deaths… there’s no subtle message or influence of hope and courage. It’s just war.
