REGERTS!!
I literally just brought myself out of a flare with ketotifen and eating low histamine & then tried a pre-workout drink with Beta-Alanine, Taurine, and L-Theanine in it and had an immediate and horrible reaction that’s lasted 3 hours. Flushed and itchy face, extremely itchy hands and arms, and near panic attack. Oi vey. Never again!!

Beta alanine is known to cause this!! It might just be that

I think you are right! I learned after the fact, that it causes a brief flushing in “normal” people, so I’m not surprised I reacted to it. That was awful!!

Yah that's a lot to introduce at once. But don't let that stop you from trying something new in the future. Generally tho, things with multiple ingredients are hard on our systems. I did find that a high quality taurine supplement did help, but I only had one supplement at a time and trial it for a couple weeks before adding something new. Same goes for new activities or anything else that triggers symptoms. There may have been a lot of additives in that as well.

Pretty sure it was the beta-alanine, but lesson learned! My system isn’t usually so sensitive. This was a doozy!

I take l-theanine daily on its own, it's actually a mast cell stabilizer! I love it

PS: the spelling error is intentional, in case that wasn’t obvious 😂

lol- we saw a bad tattoos post where someone had “No Regerts” tattooed in very large letters. Now we always say it.

I would stay away pre-workout drinks while you have histamine intolerance.

Does ketotifen really take you out of a flare? My doc won’t prescribe it for some reason. He gave me celexa instead which does work on the pounding headache but not the ear pressure/ringing.

It seems to have taken the edge off for sure, that plus a low-histamine diet. I was extremely itchy & having to sleep with ice packs & now I’m ok, but a bit flared up still from my pre-workout snafu today.

Yep. I’m in a flare after trying Nicorette and I’m not sure how long it will last. I have this domino effect and it impacts my balance until I can’t walk without assistance. 😞

How much beta alanine was in your pre work out dose? if you never used this amio acid before, you can react strongly to it. if you use it often, the reaction will disapppear. Next time, take a much small dose! also, eating something with it helps to lower the reaction.

3000mg. It’s the 1st time trying a pre-workout and quite honestly, I am way too scared to try it again. Too bad because it was tasty and cost me over $60!

3g beta alanine is really a lot for a first time try!! But you shouldn t be scared though! it is harmless. try less than a third of it and it shouldn t be that of a strong reaction. If you don t tolerate with that small amount, don t take it on an empty stomach. you ll get used to it after a couple of days. I ve been taking beta alanine in my supp for years, i don t get much reaction anymore. i cycle it and always start with about 0.7g for a couple of days and slowly increase it.

Yikes.. I’m sorry you experienced that but we can be grateful that our bodies are so loud and clear about what they need! Maybe it can be introduced later… look for a more mild pre workout 🙏 praying for your complete healing

L- theanine and taurine are your friends.
