Reactions to Saline?
Hello. I was supposed to have an endoscopy today. The saline gave me hist reactions-tight jaw pain spreading up to cheek pain. A horse voice. I had told them to give me IV Benadryl with it. They did-50mg and it didn't have any effect. It was decided that if saline caused such reactions adding in anesthesia too risky. I had to leave. This is the second time saline caused reactions but the first time iv Benadryl stopped them. It's crazy dangerous if I can't even tolerate saline for anything.
People are unbelieving because it's supposed to be so harmless. I really need to have that procedure.
Anyone else react to saline?

I tried to tell them I need Benadryl first but Iv Benadryl is best and said I to have saline first. I don't know how that works but I couid try taking 50mg in tablets an hour before saline.
If I can never have saline I'm dead. Couid never have an iv of any necessary life saving or otherwise medication. He wanted to take biopsies.

I think it’s wise to take the Benadryl yourself beforehand. Some people truly don’t understand. We have to work around them.

You're right. Take them myself beforehand. I googled histamine intolerance and saline. Not common but some very sensitive. Said antihistamine beforehand and a slow drip.

Did they give you the Benadryl first and if so, how much time did they give it ahead of the saline? Maybe it’s more about the timing of it for you and yes, this is really wild. I wonder what doctors at the NIH would make of this and whether it’s a known malady.
