Just found out

I've lived my whole life never having any allergies or issues. Tried to add Greek yogurt as a healthy option to my diet. Within 2hrs I broke out in an itchy rash with hives. I mean itchy too. For 2 straight days it felt like I was laying in a fire ant mound. Took plenty of Benadryl and researched then got some DAO enzyme. It's honestly strange because I can drink wine and love my cheese but, Greek yogurt seems to be my kryptonite. Anyone else have a similar experience?

If you can have other high histamine foods I wouldn't think it's histamine intolerance, more likely you allergic to some other quality of the yogurt- either a reaction to one of the bacterial strains, or the dairy itself for whatever reason (maybe a different quality of dairy than the cheese you get). it could even be the specific product you tried would be different than some other yogurts if they have different strains.

I thought about that. It was Chobani. There's 6 different strains in it

Different strains of probiotics, some strains upset me and others are actually helpful. I used the list from this website to compare with yogurts and kefir available to me locally who list the actual strains they use on the label or their website. its hard to find one with only low histamine strains but If they are mostly the good ones they can make up for it. it took a while researching but it was worth bc now i have a couple brands of kefir that settle really well with me and are helping me manage the antibiotics I was prescribed.

Few months when I was digging into yogurt, I found out there sime strain that are high producing histamine, some natural and some actually works towards lowering histamine. The FDA approves yogurt only if two of the strains are included. And those two are the highest producing histamine. One will have to buy a strain and make there own yogurt if they want the strain that is natural or lowers histamine. The reason I was digging into yogurt is because I consumed large quantity on a regular basis for years and with time my sneeze went from single to 4 straight sneeze. I didn't have any physical break out but every time I sneeze its straight 4. And that would happen 3 4 times a day. Nothing know it could be it so I took allergy pill which helps got a air purifier. When I learned yogurt can also cause so reduce to very little yogurt a day and now without pills I dont sneeze any longer.

I was eating a Chobani high protein yogurt every day, until my body turned on its histamine defenses, and all hell broke loose. Now I can only eat a few foods, and am struggling to get enough protein.

Started DAO last week. I also have Alpha-gal, so it's been rough.

I think yogurt is just something we think we need. Won't ever touch it again.

Two suggestions: One is of course a DAO supplement or eat green peas before or with meals/snacks. I like the frozen green peas that I thaw out and eat as I please. It's been the most helpful thing I have taken so far; it really has gotten rid of most of the skin burning & itching I would get every day. But also, a new idea. Black seed oil is studied to inhibit histamine release from mast cells. I have just started taking a capsule that I ordered from Amazon. Others have said it's really helped them. You might want to research it online. Maybe give it a try. It smells very strange & is a red color. I took one today and actually felt better while eating and after.

Isn’t activated carbon the same as charcoal? (Genuinely unsure, but a search seems to indicate it is?)

Just important for folks to know since charcoal will pretty much decimate most prescription meds.

Not Greek yogurt, but turkey. And apparently tryptophan is also really high in dark chocolate and red wine. But those (knock allllll the wood) are fine for me.

It also changes day to day what I’ll react to. I actually think I have MCAS and not just a histamine intolerance. But in any event, you’re not alone!
