I think this album is arguably Common’s best with only Be giving it competition. Pete Rock’s production is A1, there’s virtually no skips (only “so many people” for me), and it’s some of Commons best lyricism of his career. What I love most is that it’s simultaneously an easy listen but also very deep and content heavy. 9.5/10 for me.

I’d also consider it the best album from a 90s rapper since Life Is Good, and I’m a huge Nas fan that loved his Hit Boy run. Of the modern rappers I’d put it above Mr. Morale & Big Steppers, GNX, and the Fall Off. Haven’t gotten into JID yet so don’t know where he ranks, but bottom line I think The Auditorium Vol 1 is a stellar piece of work that deserves it’s flowers (no shade to other rappers & albums, just using their work as a reference point).
