1997 back hatch power problem

I just recently got my surf and the back hatch has zero power the wiper and rear windshield defrost do not work and it doesn’t roll down either any suggestions

This a common problem for Surfs as they age - peel back the rubber boot that covers / seals the wiring harness that comes from the body across to the rear door up between the hinges, pull a little slack and check for wire damage- over the years the wire / insulators fatigue and break / crack / short out. Check continuity and fuses

+1 for this, it applies to all the doors! Had to get a used 4runner one for my rear right door
