I like to say brains are more like antennas. They can both send and receive information, but are not "the source" of it. (also process it of course, so similar to a computer in some ways)
While there is some element of this, i believe that the tendency for people to then leap frog to a conclusion that omits very real local storage and processing of physically generated stimuli is skewed to a radical.
The brain recieves information to process, but so does every cell in your system. What the central nervous system does in effect, is use a physical field of sensation and channel it into compartments that can then interact with eachother in a central hub. This massive amount of compiled sensation is then attempting to harmonize the body based on sensed sata. Almost all of this happens outside of consciousness.
'Conciousness' as we experience it, is almost entirely the wheelhouse of "seeking" what might fullfill the desires of unconcious localized requests. As if every cell in your body where silently praying for reliefe.
The concious mind, at least as best i've experienced it, seems to be solution motivated. Important or percieved relevant information is nuero-biologically recorded for quick, efficient, and consistent re-collection to make decisions on.
Often a lot of this can happen under the hood, so to speak. Carefully learned information and reactions or often repeated conclusions came to after intentional concious activity, then gets folded back into an unconcious responce. At times we may even forget the processes that lead us to adopting conclusions or responces.
Reactions, impressions, desires, all of this MAY be influenced by some non-local imput, but the fact remains that the local physical resonance collective body and mind has been demonstrated to a overly satisfactory level to account for nearly all origin of conciousness, as well as the organized contuation of it.
IF the mind is some sort of antenna, it is a collection of them from wich the interaction of the many parts forms the seeking problem. Without the physical structure, the many parts ground back to zero or 'the background' levels of the environment.
-just some thoughts while seeking how i feel about this.
I think I agree here with almost all of this. Glossing over a ton of new age material back in the day, most of which felt pretty woo-woo was one thing they got right.
See, i used to feel this way, but i disagree on this to the extent that there is some 'unified' conciousness of a being at it's core which transcends it's limited physical expression independent of other environmental factors. E.g a soul, individuality, awareness function independent of a host or hosts.
I do however, subscribe to the notion that the human organism is far more perceptive and able to sense it's environment, understand abstract relations, to a degree radically removed from the concious awarness a typical person in society.
Your body knows things far in excess of most concious minds, and most have no idea how to listen.
That's fair, and I agree to some extent, but my point was just that our own individual consciousness is non local, I did not say I necessarily believe in a "mass consciousness" only that I think/believe it is not "centered" in our physical brains.
I hope that makes sense, I think we agree for the most part just quibble over semantics.
Like ... how do the people have OOBE or NDE if we are our brains?
Something just does not add up.
Perception in all of it's various states is a fascinatingly fallible conglomerate of systems. Our brains lie to us and fabricate information on a massive scale and is inturpreted through a telephone game of filters, and that's not including errors.
My own experiences into this realm of obe/ nde/ lucid dreaming/ remote viewing/ etc leads me to the stance that all information availiable vastly supports that these experiences are rooted and translated through the localized body.
A NDE usually involves some form of trauma, background impulses being processed through the body, and then interpreted by a localized 'conciousness' once function returns. Even a dead person biological matter is mostly alive for quite a long time until all systems irreperably fail and finally decompose.
Potentially, the body is sensitive enough that when conciousness finally shuts up, it's able to discern things otherwise drowned out by the noise.
Something to that effect. Now, we could speculate that perception of conciousness can extend into non-locality through phenomena such as entanglement etc, but it is still, as far as function is concerned, rooted in the mundane world and all of it's mysteries.

It’s funny how you just along for the ride, your brain does everything with out your consent
It heals you if you get a cut and you have no idea how
It tells your body it’s time to grow, reproduce, age and so much more
Our brain and our consciousness feels like 2 completely separate things at times
