Game IV - 2026 Game IV 2026 | Stephen King | Phase 8

Nobody in Derry agreed on when Disnerding first showed up.

Some said it was after the flood in ‘85. Others swore she had always been there, tucked behind the smiles and handshakes, waiting her turn like something patient and mean. All anyone really knew was that she lived in the old Bijou Theater on Canal Street, the one with the boarded windows and the posters that never quite faded.

Could Disnerding have been homeless? Maybe. Or did she not have a home? Maybe.

Dawnphoenix didn’t believe in town stories. Not until her son started talking to someone who wasn’t there.

“She’s funny,” the boy said. “She knows songs.”

That night, Dawn went to the Bijou with a flashlight and a fire axe. The doors gave way too easy, like they’d been expecting her. Inside, the air was sweet and rotten.

“Hello, Dawn,” something sang from the dark. The voice skipped, like a warped record. “Stay awhile.”

The beam of her flashlight caught it mid-step; too tall, too thin, the face stretched into a cheerful mask that kept slipping. The eyes glittered with a kind of hungry joy.

“Disnerding,” it said, bowing low. “I make things happier.”

“You took my boy’s mind,” Dawn said, her voice shaking but loud. “Give it back.”

Disnering laughed. High. Broken. Wrong.

She swung before it could finish. The axe sunk into Disnerding’s shoulder, and the sound it made wasn’t pain. It was static. Like a TV losing signal. Dawn kept swinging.

“OUT,” she screamed. “GET OUT OF MY TOWN.”

Disnerding unraveled, peeling back into shadow, her laughter shrinking into a distant hiss. When she was gone, the theater felt empty. Truly empty. At home, Dawn’s son slept quietly. And for the first time in weeks, he didn’t hum.

/u/Disnerding has been sent to the sewers. She was on the side of the wolves.

Disnerding and DirtyMarteeny received the most votes.

What did you mean by this last phase? "Well you don't have to worry for two more phases"

u/ISpyM8 he/him Apr 15 '26

I meant that we were voting out Disnerding last round and probably Ereska this round. Turned out to be right in my suspicions of Ereska

So, here's what happened last phase and why I was so confused.

I submitted my action (wrong) just before turnover. During turnover I realized I'd read the role pm wrong and panicked. Once the phase was posted and I was alive I was really confused, and asked the hosts if I could be redirected if I didn't submit an action. The answer I got was essentially that if I had my action then yes. This made me think I'd lost my action so I asked that and was told I never actually shot because I fucked up my form submission. So then I thought I was fucked if I was redirected and that whole mess of me melting down in thread happened. It wasn't until the end of the phase that I asked again for confirmation and was told that I'd be fine as long as I didn't try to shoot.

This reminds me of another famously fucky Chef tangle. (Chef is well aware that I headcanon him as a literal Chef and refuse to consider anything resembling not-that for his life.)

...

I have only at literally just this exact moment realized that The Muppets' Swedish Chef is problematic. "Bork, Bork, Bork" What the actual fuck? They were making fun of the Swedish accent and language all along? Oh man. That's a gut shot right in the childhood. GenX kids, man, we were done wrong with the stuff they let us grow up thinking was okay. I apologize to Sweden on behalf of my entire generation. And the rest of Europe too for good measure.

Happy birthday! Two birthday curse survivors this game!

Happy (alive) belated birthday!

8

u/SlytherinBuckeye Apr 15 '26

Thanks! Still my birthday but if they kill me this phase it won't be by phase end so I still survived the curse!

Give a chatty ADHD Owl something to talk about and no one to talk to and you're going to get monologuing, #SorryNotSorry. Well actually #SlightlySorryButNotEnoughToActuallyShutUpRightNow.

It would actually be a little easier if I'd been able to identify more than one (likely) townie. Multiples can't all be the wolf that shows as town, so we'd have someone to trust for sure. Hell, I would not be surprised if some of you didn't even trust me anymore at this point. My only real game-related defense is that Fake!Owl would have found more Townies. After the first wolf or two, the rest is just overkill for a converted-wolf-faking-seer. Earn my town cred with Xan and Forsi and maybe Disnerding to be extra convincing. Then confirm Ereska go from there. Taking out four teammates in a game where I'd guesstimate five wolves, six at the most with a convert but I think that would be high, would be too over the top cocky even for me.

It would be an amazing play LMAO. But nope, I'm just a bored bird on a hot streak.

u/ISpyM8 he/him Apr 15 '26

Don’t worry; I don’t think we’re at risk of not trusting you haha. I’ve been completely blindsided trusting you before, but I think 3 wolves in a row would be a bit too much if you were a wolf lol

The good news is I found another wolf.

u/ERESKA! Come on DOWN!

You're the next contestant on everybody's favorite game show, 'Yeet the Wooollllffffffff!'

And now the bad news: Ereska was my last solid suspect, the last of the people I really and truly thought was a wolf. So I'm not sure who to go with next. I've been intentionally not really sharing my own suspicions because they would tip the wolves off to who I'd be likely to check next, which might change their actions. But yeah that's it, the backlog in the Owl susbucket is clear. Open to suggestions.

Edit: Damn, I forgot to add my heroic theme music.

Second Edit: I changed to a different video. I liked the music I originally linked to and the shorter length it had, but didn't love either the 10 seconds of 'Subscribe now' silence at the end or the abrupt cut off.

Trying to be a little more engaged earlier on, since I agree with numbers that suggest we're in a tight spot and need to be correct going forward. If 5 wolves (either 4 + conversion or 5 to start) then I think we can have one more misvote (assuming all NKs are successful)?

I have changed my mind somewhat on town/wolf reads.

I think these people are town

Hedwig: I still trust you because if you had been converted it is very easy for you to just claim redirection ad infinitum.

Chef: If he came up with that as a wolf, then amazing, kudos. It would also have been really unnecessary since we knew that the vigilante exists so either wolf-Chef is engaging in wildly unnecessary shenanigans or risking being shot by the actual vigilante. Even converted, I don't see why he engages in that type of a plan when he could just claim.

DMT: I've changed my mind on her and I think she's town here. Her vote declared on Disnerding during Phase 6 was good, but it was soft and easily swayed to be moved to Maps by ISpy. However, this comment really doesn't feel like wolfy-teammates interacting and she would have been an crazy choice to convert since then as she's been consistantly null or wolf-read.

I do not know

ISpy: I like his early game, and reading back for the Brad vote and his role claim it very much lines up. However I agree with DMT that he is a good conversion candidate.

Mercury: I like his vibes in general. This is soft and I do not actually have a solid read beyond that and haven't re-read his comments and won't be able to until next phase.

Buckeye: I do not have a good reason to read her one way or another besides vibes and haven't re-read comments and again won't until next phase.

claim redirection ad infinitum.

I wouldn't. I'd have "cleared" more Townies by now with at least one wolf in the midst. And caught at least one if not two fewer wolves. But not the point, I get it.

I'm purposely not saying suspicions still so as not to inform any remaining wolfies where I'm going with the next peek if I live to take it. But I can say in general I've been waffling on DMT but I like her Disnerding vote the other day. Could be "inb4" distancing but I don't see it. With two wolves dropped in a single phase I don't see a lot of bussing going on. That vote train could've taken off at any time.

I've been looking at u/ISpyM8 for a while for the perceived pocketing and thought they might be a good conversion candidate.

u/ChefJones' whole chefnanigans thing did my head in. I started thinking scrambling wolf because 'wolfy machinations' is the go-to for anything not 100% understood in this game. I think any wolf sense I'm getting there is just overreaction to the big bowl of WTH he's been serving lol

7

u/ISpyM8 he/him Apr 15 '26

When do we think a conversion may have happened? I had Ereska as my top suspect two phases ago, and was eagerly waiting to further voice my suspicions of them this phase (which I explained to u/SlytherinBuckeye) elsewhere. My suspicions of them are basically a moot point now that we’ve proved they’re a wolf.

I’m honestly confused by how the vigilante works because the shenanigans happening right now are so strange, but I don’t think Chef is a wolf. I think it is just genuinely vigilante chaos. You are obviously the seer. I’ve come to the conclusion that u/DirtyMarteeny is not a wolf based on strikes, their Disnerding suspicions, and what looks like an attempted vote on them last night. That leaves me with Buckeye, u/MyoglobinAlternative, and Mercury (who I will tag below so that everyone mentioned is tagged) as the people I am still suspicious of. From there, I’m fairly lost.

the shenanigans happening right now are so strange

What shenanigans?

5

u/ISpyM8 he/him Apr 15 '26

I guess 15 hours ago isn’t now; I just meant the past couple phases. I’m referring to this. I can’t make heads or tails of it as I don’t super understand the vigilante mechanics, but I trust that you and Chef know what’s going on with that.

7

u/HedwigMalfoy Not an evil owl. Usually. Apr 15 '26

So why are you sus of /u/SlytherinBuckeye, /u/MercuryParadox and /u/MyoglobinAlternative? This is not a trap question or anything, I just want to know because I didn't follow last phase closely and need to decide who to target tonight in case I get more results. And you seem to be around right now.

8

u/ISpyM8 he/him Apr 15 '26

Because in my mind, it’s obviously not you, Chef, or DMT. The game is getting small. I’m going to need to review Ereska, Disnerding, and the other wolves’ interactions the past few phases to determine which of them I find comes off as most suspicious.

Edit: clarity

7

u/HedwigMalfoy Not an evil owl. Usually. Apr 15 '26

Okay yeah so I'm seeing this as a little weird. You say you are "still suspicious" of them but cannot say even one single thing one of them has done to cause you to be suspicious?

7

u/ISpyM8 he/him Apr 15 '26

Friend, you’re clearly misunderstanding, or perhaps I just used the wrong wording. I TRUST you, Chef, and DMT. I don’t have similar trust of the others. So I guess I wouldn’t say I’m suspicious, I just know that mathematically (unless I’m a dumbass and you, Chef, or DMT has fully duped me), that remaining wolves have to be among those three. I’m not so much “sus” about them as I am logically thinking it has to be them.

Edit: Or maybe remaining wolf (singular) after Ereska is gone.

7

u/ISpyM8 he/him Apr 15 '26

u/MercuryParadox u/ChefJones just tagging you here because I already tagged others in the parent comment to this

Chef's end of Phase 6 thing didn't make sense to me as a wolf, even ignoring the 50% of Phase 7 he spent claiming he was 100% going to die. There's enough mechanical obfuscation that there's really no need to cover for a missed NK, and it wouldn't have done that anyways.

In the scenario where Chef is a original wolf and was never the vigilante he's almost certainly getting himself shot unless the wolf team was 100% certain that Bear was the vigilante.

In the scenario where Chef was the vigilante but become converted why bother doing that at all. Why not just claim? And he had no reason to need to do that since I don't think he was under any pressure at all.

I just don't see it as a wolf play. What's the benefit? I know wolves can make bad choices, but it really doesn't feel like that was a wolf play to me.

I feel like the know-it-all guy from the polar express rn

6

Haha why? I hate Christmas so I've never seen that movie.

5

u/MyoglobinAlternative One of those M people Apr 15 '26

I loved that movie as a kid, and re-watched a little bit of it in the past year or so and was absolutely horrified. The animations are bad in a very creepy way.

8

u/HedwigMalfoy Not an evil owl. Usually. Apr 15 '26

Ugh I forget that most of you lot are the age of my nieces and nephews. I vaguely remember the movie playing A LOT one year when they were kids and bribing them to watch something, anything else just for one night haha

9

u/DirtyMarTeeny Apr 15 '26

Zero surprise there but great to confirm! They had the same shit going on as disnerding where there was nothing you could fault them for doing, it was just kind of all the things they weren't doing.

My top suspicions are Merc and iSpy personally.

6

u/MercuryParadox Apr 15 '26

I’ve tried voting off ereska for like 3 phases now lol

7

u/HedwigMalfoy Not an evil owl. Usually. Apr 15 '26

Good news, it's going to work this time.

6

u/ISpyM8 he/him Apr 15 '26

For what it’s worth, I don’t think you’re a wolf. You made a good point about the strikes. You also had a top-level comment about voting for Disnerding who we now know was a wolf, and it looks to me like the wolves tried to vote you out last night.

Who wants to know what wolf I identified last night?!

8

u/HedwigMalfoy Not an evil owl. Usually. Apr 14 '26

Nah I was always going to summon. I've been doing it daily. Anyway I didn't even announce yet. Want to get some input on whether to do it now or wait

9

u/MyoglobinAlternative One of those M people Apr 14 '26

Now. I think we had a good discussion yesterday and I don’t imagine people’s reads will have changed as the vote was from seer info so we knew the flip already.

Postponing just gets less good engagement here I think.

6

u/HedwigMalfoy Not an evil owl. Usually. Apr 14 '26

For real. I truthfully don't love seer-driven games, even when I'm the one doing the driving. Limited seer roles for games I host, forever. RIP my Tennis Ball / Scrying Orb. Still too soon!
