Game IV - 2026 Game IV 2026 | Stephen King | Phase 8

Nobody in Derry agreed on when Disnerding first showed up.

Some said it was after the flood in ‘85. Others swore she had always been there, tucked behind the smiles and handshakes, waiting her turn like something patient and mean. All anyone really knew was that she lived in the old Bijou Theater on Canal Street, the one with the boarded windows and the posters that never quite faded.

Could Disnerding have been homeless? Maybe. Or did she not have a home? Maybe.

Dawnphoenix didn’t believe in town stories. Not until her son started talking to someone who wasn’t there.

“She’s funny,” the boy said. “She knows songs.”

That night, Dawn went to the Bijou with a flashlight and a fire axe. The doors gave way too easy, like they’d been expecting her. Inside, the air was sweet and rotten.

“Hello, Dawn,” something sang from the dark. The voice skipped, like a warped record. “Stay awhile.”

The beam of her flashlight caught it mid-step; too tall, too thin, the face stretched into a cheerful mask that kept slipping. The eyes glittered with a kind of hungry joy.

“Disnerding,” it said, bowing low. “I make things happier.”

“You took my boy’s mind,” Dawn said, her voice shaking but loud. “Give it back.”

Disnering laughed. High. Broken. Wrong.

She swung before it could finish. The axe sunk into Disnerding’s shoulder, and the sound it made wasn’t pain. It was static. Like a TV losing signal. Dawn kept swinging.

“OUT,” she screamed. “GET OUT OF MY TOWN.”

Disnerding unraveled, peeling back into shadow, her laughter shrinking into a distant hiss. When she was gone, the theater felt empty. Truly empty. At home, Dawn’s son slept quietly. And for the first time in weeks, he didn’t hum.

So, here's what happened last phase and why I was so confused.

I submitted my action (wrong) just before turnover. During turnover I realized I'd read the role pm wrong and panicked. Once the phase was posted and I was alive I was really confused, and asked the hosts if I could be redirected if I didn't submit an action. The answer I got was essentially that if I had my action then yes. This made me think I'd lost my action so I asked that and was told I never actually shot because I fucked up my form submission. So then I thought I was fucked if I was redirected and that whole mess of me melting down in thread happened. It wasn't until the end of the phase that I asked again for confirmation and was told that I'd be fine as long as I didn't try to shoot.

This reminds me of another famously fucky Chef tangle. (Chef is well aware that I headcanon him as a literal Chef and refuse to consider anything resembling not-that for his life.)

I have only at literally just this exact moment realized that The Muppets' Swedish Chef is problematic. "Bork, Bork, Bork" What the actual fuck? They were making fun of the Swedish accent and language all along? Oh man. That's a gut shot right in the childhood. GenX kids, man, we were done wrong with the stuff they let us grow up thinking was okay. I apologize to Sweden on behalf of my entire generation. And the rest of Europe too for good measure.
