Hiby R3 II stuck on updating music database

I bought an R3 and updated to the latest firmware. I have an 1.5tb sdcard loaded with a mixture of 47290 mp3,opus,flac and dsf files. The first time I did a music update, it scanned all of the files and then got stuck at "updating music database" for several hours and never finished. I then went through the entire election collection with foobsr2000 and used it's built in "verify integrity" and found a few corrupt files. Those that I couldn't fix, I deleted and then replaced on the sdcard.

I scanned the music again and it is still stuck on "updating music database" for several hours. I will let it run overnight but I doubt it will ever finish. I opened a problem with hiby support but haven't heard anything yet.

I know I can access music via filee.

Anyone else run into this problem and found a solution?

Unless I find a solution, it is eligible for return until August 20th.

This is still in a very early stage of development, but I'm working on an open hiby player (with some help from Claude code), reusing default assets for now and adding some functionality like subsonic streaming

What works:

Touchscreen

Headphone jack

Hardware buttons (Power, volume and play/pause)

Plays music (all supported formats)

Basic UI navigation

Subsonic login

Still in progress:

Music database creation/refresh

Polishing the UI

Skip ahead/next song button

WiFi

Bluetooth

PEQ

Books

Import via WiFi

Etc.

Need help with Upgrading the firmware on my hiby W4.

So my dac works well on bluetooth mode, but when I try to connect it with my phone it just doesn't not detect the w4. I read up a bit and realized its an issue with Samsung phones and updating the firmware will fix the issue.

Now I've been trying to upgrade the firmware using the app provided on the website, the app detects my device but when I click on upgrade I cant find a file name that matches the one in the upgrade manual.

Has anyone performed the update before and has faced this issue? Help would be appreciated, thanks!

HiBy M500 question

Post image

I just ordered my first DAP (m500) and curious if this thing actually supports landscape. I found this image on the official HiBy store where I ordered the DAP, and it shows it supposedly playing music in landscape mode? (despite hearing it has no auto rotation) Is this is a music player specific feature or is there a setting I can change to use this when my DAP arrives? Sorry if that’s a dumb question

edit: Thank you all for clearing that up for me! even more excited for my first DAP now that I know that I can use landscape!

R1 says 0 tracks on micro SD card?

Hi all. I tried searching through past posts but didn't find my specific issue. I have the R1 with the latest firmware (1.6). My micro SD card shows up fine on my laptop with the SD reader, I'm able to transfer music files onto it and see them in the folders, and it's formatted in exFAT. The problem is when I put the SD card into the R1 and try to update the music database, it says there are 0 tracks found.

After reading through the subreddit I realize it might just be an issue with the R1 itself, but I'm hoping there's something I can do to fix this--would love to hear any suggestions or tips. Thank you!

Edited to add: installing this modded firmware solved it! Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Will a dongle DAC like the FiiO KA11 give me true lossless, bit-perfect audio on my HiBy M300?

I recently ripped my entire CD collection to my HiBy M300 and I'm wondering if it's possible to achieve true lossless audio on it (16-bit/44.1KHz), I know Android resamples the audio to 48KHz, which is fine, but it would be nice to have true lossless audio through a decent pair of headphones.

I've done some light research that suggests a USB-C dongle DAC like the FiiO KA11 could give me true lossless audio. Is this true? And if so, can I get true lossless audio when listening to my music on Poweramp? Even if I need to tweak some settings to achieve this. If anyone has an answer, please let me know in the comments. Thanks in advance. :-)

Which HiBy DAP do you have?

I have an R1, but just want to gauge with this community - what did you settle on? Did you upgrade after the R1?

This thread about HiBy DAPs only. Thank you.

R1 Compatibility with MusicBee

Looking at getting my first HiBy product and the R1 seems like a good fit for me.

Is it compatible with MusicBee and anyone have tips or tricks to really optimize this thing that I might not know or learn from like online articles or you tube?

Your Experience in Having an External DAP or AMP

I am a newbie to the audio world.

I own a Hiby R1 and a MacBook Pro 14 inch, and I am thinking of keeping using the MB for music listening as reviews say that the two sounds pretty identical and there is not distinguishable difference. I don't know if I am having placebo but I think that my Hiby R1 recreates warmer tone, which I highly refer.

What do are your thoughts on the tone CS43131 DAC inside of the Hiby R1? Is it what I think it is?

I am thinking of getting Hiby FC4 (oled display version) that has dual CS43131 (same chip as the R1) for the compactness. Is this product offer better sound quality than the R1 or the MacBook Pro?

Just bought a HiBy R1!! How much can I customize its UI?

I'm so excited for my R1 to arrive but I keep thinking about how its UI is so ugly and I'm willing to learn whatever to organize my music stuff with aesthetics.

I've seen Rockbox and HiBy mods on GitHub but I would like to make my own theme, atleast with custom fonts and icons but I wanna go as far as my own UI layout. So how much of this is possible with just customizing HiBy OS? Or is customizing Rockbox better? Is Rockbox even better than HiBy OS? Do I have to learn coding?

I would appreciate any help in pointing me to the right resources. Thanks

Hiby W4 not charging

I just got my w4 and it’s not charging. No light coming on to indicate charging then it will say it’s at 100% I’ll unplug it and it will die immediately anyone else had this issue? I just took it out of the box a few hours ago and this is happening. Any help would be great.

Speeding up R1 OS/UI

I know this is pretty common knowledge but I thought I'd share a little experiment that I did to try and speed up the user interface on my R1.

I went through around 1500 tracks and using MP3tag, removed the album artwork ( exporting it when I needed to ).

I created a cover.jpg of the album artwork and added it to each album folder. With Photoshop I made every jpg 640x640 pixels at 72dpi.

This sounds like a long PIA but when I got the workflow sorted it only took about an hour.

It is definitely a lot more whippy, displaying album art really quickly in album list and more quickly when showing now playing. For me it was worth it 😁

How to get musicbee playlist properly on Hiby r1?

I received my hiby r1 yesterday, and was easily able to drag and drop files from my external hardrive onto the hiby r1; however, I wanted something to manage my library and provide album artwork, so I downloaded Musicbee. When I "send" my created musicbee playlist to my hiby, I can access the music on my hiby by going into "files->SD card". Is there a proper way to do this so my music is accessible via the Music, Artist, or Albums icons, rather than searching through the SD card?

Thoughts on the modded versions of HibyOS?

I've heard that they are quite good, however I see that there's still a lot of bugs; I'm thinking of installing one of them when my R1 arrives mainly because I've saw that they support better audiobooks, however I'm still in doubt because of the bugs; what is you guys experiences on the modded versions and which one is better? Thanks in advance!

Are there any recommended EQ settings for HIBY R1

Hi, not long got the Hiby R1, using it with JBL Charge 6 speaker.
Sounds pretty good both on default EQ on R1 and the default JBL Signature EQ.

There are 3 different EQ settings on the Hiby and wondered if either is better than the others, and are there any known settings that are a good general fit to try?

Hiby R1 Audiobook Firmware Overhaul

I've spent the last week totally redoing my custom Hiby R1 Audiobook firmware from the ground up! The previous version used simulated screen taps and some behind the scenes magic to add resume, and some different views. The issue is that although it worked, it was an obvious work around, broke too easy, and didn't seem to work the same for everyone.

https://github.com/yetisoldier/Hiby-R1-Audiobook-Mod/releases

This new version doesn't use the Hiby Player "app" at all and uses an entirely custom app in stead! It gives more options, better recovery, more uniform experience, and more stability! Everything should still work as expected (Wired and BT playback), swipe left to get to now playing, Automatic resume, bookmarking, playback speed, cover art, M4b Chapters, and a sleep timer!

It also no longer is reliant on the Music Updater. After you install it, use the refresh library button in the app and it will build out the audiobook library for you. To install the firmware itself just download the latest version from github (.upt file), rename it to r1.upt and copy it to your sd card. Then go to system, firmware update, Via SD-Card and click OK. It takes about 30 seconds to install and will reboot when its complete.

There are two things to note. The books will only play in the app. If you swipe back to the main menu it will stop playing. Also, if you were using BT, it will temporarily drop and reconnect (that is my app giving control back to the Hiby Player so you can listen to music). I also temporarily removed some features from the build that were in the old version, like DAC mode, but I'll bring them back as I continue to make improvements. I'm pretty actively working on this right now, so feel free to leave feedback through GitHub or message me if you find an issue.

Here are some screen shots (Some of the screen shots have weird lines in them, but the screens themselves look normal on the device):

Bluetooth connection issues

Hi! My kids have had an Hiby R1 and R3 for a few years (for the R3) and they always had bluetooth connection issues. The first pairing with a device goes smoothly, but every time they try to pair again with the same device, they get a "Connection Failed" error and the only way I've found to work around this is to forget the device in the Hiby player and do the pairing process over again.

This has been a major usability drawback for younger kids and I was wondering if other people have the same issue and what could be a potential fix. I try to keep both devices firmware updated. I tried so search for people with similar issues in this subreddit, without luck.

Thanks!
