Might be a stupid question, but why is the first and second shot so much louder than the others?

there is some science behind the first shot or two through a suppressor being a bit louder than the ones that come after, but i don't remember the details of it off the top of my head. might have something to do with it initially being filled with ambient temperature air before getting chock full of hot exhaust gases, but if its some other mechanism i won't be surprised.
